Title: Hack on triple J
Description: The official Hack discussion thread

Texta - October 19, 2005 09:33 AM (GMT)
I just wanted to put big ups to Hack on triple J. It's a current affairs kinda show broadcast on Triple J from 5:30 to 6pm (AEST) weekly and I think it's damn brilliant. You can also subscribe to the podcast or download previous episodes from http://www.abc.net.au/triplej/listen/podcast.htm

They raise some fairly topical issues that relate to young people but I think are quite aware of the fact that for an issue to be inportant to young people it doesn't have to be just a young persons issue so they still deal with stuff like IR reforms and the Iraq war etc.

Anyway, I'd like this thread to be a place to discuss the issues that were brought up in Hack. So tune in and then go wild (or something) (feel free to talk about anything that's come up ever in Hack).

Todays major issues were mental health of young people (with regard to services) and penis size.

The penis size stuff was really interesting even if it lacked a little on fact. Now I'm officially average but I think I can agree that it's a pretty big (excuse the pun) issue for guys especially when they're young. My attitude is that I can't really help the size of my dick however it's prett easy to see that having a girl laugh at your dick size would probably scar you for life.

It's just kinda funny when you think about it that something you have absolutely no control over can be such a big issue and something that can really effect people. I guess from now on I'll try to make less jokes about dick size.

No control over?? Haven't you been receiving all those Penis Enlargement ads?

Hack is good. I often get to listen to it when I work. I deliver pizzas so I spend alot of time in the car with the radio on. It's annoying as I miss alot of it due to getting in and out of the car alot. I think they are doing a good thing with bringing up issues that are affecting the youth of Australia.

I didn't get to hear the one from today but it sounds intrieging. I might have a go at downloading them.

I usually only listen to HACK on Monday and Tuesday nights when I'm on my way home from school, and since I didn't go to school this week, I have nothing to discuss! :P

Next week my good man, next week.

I wonder, could this thread include some of the stuff that is discussed on Today Today too? Some of the issues and subjects I have heard on that program are up there with what is on Hack, well I think so anyway. I listen to both and yes the subjects are great. Where do you think the Student/Teacher thread of mine came from? ;)

Personally I have never seen penis size as an issue and whenever people bring it up in a teasing way or whatever (a lot of people copped shit for their sizes in high school) I tell these people off. Then again, that seems a little ironic considering I am extremely hesitant in showing off (for lack of a better term) my private bits. As for girls and their reactions, well yes naturally their laughter would be hurtful but you have to see if from their side too. They have expectations based on certain things, be it the image that is portrayed through society or whatever and then when these expectations of your average size aren't fulfilled and the girls are surprised, they can't help but laugh. It's their instinct telling them the best way to deal with the sudden change in thought/mood. If it were to happen to me (fortunately it hasn't though) I know for a fact that I would prefer laughter over another reaction.

Wow, all that said from just one of Hack's subjects. This thread should be good. ;)

I didn't listen to Hack yesterday, but due to this penis size talk I did some research and I too am average. I was kinda paranoid about it, so that's good to know.

I listen to hack pretty much every day on my way home from work ... not cause I wan't to, just cause the other radio stations play crap music and my cd player isn't working :P

NismoR34 - October 20, 2005 04:54 PM (GMT)
Missed yesterday's subjects, what were they?

Texta - October 21, 2005 12:33 AM (GMT)
I didn't work yesterday so I don't know. However I'm about to go to work, so I'll let you know when I come back. Podcasting is pretty cool, but working until 7 also means I can listen to Today today and Hack to pass the time (plus I know that when Hack finishes* I can go home)

*Daylight saving, JJJ is an hour late in tas.

So I missed today's episode because the storms we got must have hit the tower or whatever it is that gives Canberra the station. I did hear what the topics were though, with the main one being sibling sex abuse. I ask now what happened on the show (for anyone who heard it) and what do they think about this topic in general. Ever experienced anything with your own eyes, or indeed other areas?

I've seen it happen in front of me, but I'll elaborate on that tomorrow.
