Description: Both Negative & Positive

JJJames7 - September 28, 2005 10:49 AM (GMT)
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time: I hired it from the local hire shop, played it for so long it was a week overdue (dad had to pay something like a $20 fee), then I hired it for a few more times before purchasing it. It consumed about four years of my Primary School life. Myself and two friends would go home after school, play the game for hours and then tell each other what happnened.

I remember when they both found out Zelda is Sheik. We we're around 11 years old and we were in Art. They were telling me Zelda and Sheik were related in some way and I just could not get it. Then they gave me the clue "Zelda I- Sheik" and I couldn't get the bloody letter. They didn't tell me, and that night I found out the secret... So awesome.

Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty: I purchased this with my grandmother as my chosen christmas present, I would have been in year six or seven (it's the DVD edition, so I thanked her for spending the $109.95). I remember finding it to be a decent game, but I wasn't hooked. However, it's a game I kept going back to over and over again. The amazing graphics, the brilliant soundtrack and the inspiring story (I borrow from MGS2 for alot of my English stories, and this game is the only one I ever bothered to reaserch the composer, Harry Gregson Williams (I think :P) ).

I played this game over and over again just to get pretty much to the stage where the President is killed. From there, you get to battle Vamp, go inside Metal Gear, and of course, the famous ending where you find out everything is stuffed up and you find out the real history of Jack. Just an awesome game.

Kirby's Dream Course: One of the few SNES games I had as a kid, this classic had me hooked from a very young age. I must have been five or six when I first experienced this game, and it was the only reason I used to get my SNES out up to a year ago. I never really liked golf that much, but for some reason I could not put this game down.

I remember once last year my dad walked into the room and said (something along the lines of) "Mate, you have a PS2, this new one (GCN), a Gameboy and a computer, why the hell are you playing that old thing?" :)

Pokemon (Red): I know I was in year 1 when this was released because I brang my GBC to class with me the day after I bought this. I was with my mother and she bought it from Myer for me. She then went into this clothes shop, and I sat on a waiting chair and began playing. I kept playing and presumed I chose Charmander as a beginner, and about ten minutes later, when my mum was ready to leave, I ran into a changing booth without her seeing and kept playing for another ten or fifteen minutes.

Since then I have owned Red, Blue, Yellow, Silver, Crystal, Sapphire and other Pokemon games such as Pokemon Snap, Pokemon Pinball and probably alot more.

Others I can't be bothered writing a long paragraph about:

Playing Super Mario on NES with a mate at a daycare.
Playing Double Dragon on SNES with the same mate. I was always Billy.
Starcraft. Fucking hell that is a good game which I still play.

Perfect Dark. I really don't need to say anything as most of you would know my love for this gem of a game. Let's just say that after 2000 hours clocked on the game (mostly in single-player I might add), it is definitely what I consider to be the best game ever. As for gaming moments? Too many to list. Using the Laptop gun for the first time was a nice moment though.

Project Gotham Racing 2. No particular gaming moments with this title either, although acquiring all Platinums was definitely a memorable achievement. It's definitely one of my favourite games though, it just has everything. Brilliant racing, brilliant cars, brilliant tracks, brilliant graphics, brilliant soundtrack... It's just brilliant.

Moving onto gaming moments now, we have...

ICO. Do I really need to explain this? Yes? Okay then. This entire game was a memorable gaming moment. When people suggest that it is an experience, they are dead right. I ignore anyone who says otherwise. :D

Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater. Again, this is also an experience. Well as far as I am concerned anyway. It was thoroughly enjoyable from start to finish and was just so damn polished. The music is absolutely fucking fantastic too. It is also a memorable moment from start to finish, but if I had to be specific it would definitely be the Sniping battle. :D

Burnout: Revenge. Only a minor moment here, but performing my first ever Vertical Down was gaming bliss. I can't think of anything else more satisfying in a racing game of recent times...

Metroid Prime/Metroid Prime 2: Echoes. Both games were as far as I am concerned, memorable moments from start to finish. To be more specific though, I loved exploring Chozo Ruins and Phendrana Drifts in Metroid Prime. Especially the later. Such a beautiful place and one I can only dream of ever being in. Echoes' moment would have to be exploring Torvus Bog. Simply amazing.

Hm, that's all for now. :D

Comrade Natrak - September 29, 2005 05:36 AM (GMT)
I'm feeling lazy so I'll just list one for now.

Halo 2 - Finally getting out of the Library to be greated with an amazing view. Dark, snowy fields crawling with the Flood battling the gigantic Sentinal bots. Clearly this was the kind've AotC environment Bungie had originally dreamed of implementing. I didn't move, didn't go into battle, didn't shoot, I just stood there and looked around, in awe. The scope of the environment and the battle had left me stricken with awe.

NismoR34 - September 29, 2005 05:54 PM (GMT)
I am surprised by the lack of posts in this thread actually but anyway.

Zelda: Ocarina of Time. Three memorable moments here. Firstly we have the jump off the waterfall in Zora's Domain. I kept on doing that for about 20 times when I worked out it was possible. Was great fun back when I was a wee child.
Secondly, seeing Zora's Domain iced over once you were an adult. Soooo beautiful...
Last but not least, the fight with Ganondorf and then later on with Ganon. Intense shit. Loved every moment.

Resident Evil 4. The Lake Monster boss. Well naturally the entire game is something to behold, but this was definitely memorable. I was playing into the early hours of the morning, and I was going to finish after said boss. Let's just say that the adrenalin I got after versing it made me play for another 3 hours...

Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker. I quite enjoyed exploring Dragon Roost Island and when I first arrived there I tried searching every nook and cranny possible. Thoroughly enjoyed that place and I think the music helped that immensely.

Final Fantasy VII. Cliche to the extreme, but Aerith's death scene. I wasn't particularly moved by the actual death or the scene, but the music got the adrenalin pumping the more I heard it. (I had hassles with the battle afterwards and kept bloody losing) It was from then onwards that I realised just how addictive the game would be.

Final Fantasy VIII. The train scene early on in the game. That was intense stuff the first time I tried it. Naturally it is easy as piss now, but I was young the first time I did it and had never experienced such an event before. Another scene is when all the characters are on the basketball court reminiscing. That was really nice seeing the backstory of the characters as they were little kids. Funny yet cute at the same time. Squall and Rinoa's little situation while in space was a memorable moment too. Oh hell, the whole damn game was memorable for me.

More tomorrow.

borgster101 - September 30, 2005 02:24 AM (GMT)
I think there is a lack of posts because it's difficult to come up with a special moment.

One that comes to mind, recently is a certain scene in Fahrenheit ;) , actually the whole game was a great experience / gaming moment. Hold on I just thought of some more :D

Killer 7
Amazing game overall, one particular memorable moment is when you are exploring the elementary school and learn some dark secrets I wont say too much, because I dont think many people in this forum have played it yet. Probably should have a spoiler warning in the thread title.

Resident Evil 4
The Village Chief, OMG that was a crazy transformation, first time :D
Krauser knife fight / boss fights :D

Zelda Ocarina of Time
The final escape of the castle as it's falling to pieces, and only to realise that you must fight Ganon in his true evil form.

Hello - September 30, 2005 07:55 AM (GMT)
Me watching my brother clock Super Mario World. Good times. He was always the better player than me.

JJJames7 - September 30, 2005 09:44 AM (GMT)
I forgot to add my negitave moment. I have told this story on the old Hyper forums and it also got published in an edition of Hyper magazine ("What is your favorite PS2 game", the mag may have had The Hulk on the cover).

Grand Theft Auto: Vice City (PS2)

I would have been 12 or 13 when this happened. My room looked totally different and I was sitting on this old couch in my room. I was playing Vice City religously, and had just unlocked the Print Works. Then I think I reset my PS2 (after saving) to take it all in and went into thememory card mode to delete some other stuff.

As I was deleting, I accidentally went onto the VC cassette tape, and... BOOM! I deleted my fucking file. Then I began crying and both my parents were holding me going "it's just a game!". I was fucking crying cus I had just unlocked the print works. :P

NOTE: The letter is in the forum section of Hyper 115 (HULK on the cover). It has a pic of Lance Vance next to it if anyones interested. :)

Are we talking about the same game here?

Halo 2 [negative] I remember feeling totally dissappointed with Halo 2 because of the lack of immersive outdoor environments. It had none of the character or soul the original had. The only levels I enjoyed playing were the first level, the first half of Outskirts and the majority of Delta Halo. Every other level had too much of an emphasis on vehicles, the level resembled more of a race track than a battle ground.

Halo [positive] Now this is gaming perfection. f15active and I must've played through the game at least a hundred times, each time the experience was totally different and increasingly enjoyable. The waves of enemies, the amazing dogfights, the hilarious grunts. The only time the game became dull was after the release of Halo 2.

Counter-Strike [positive] By the pinnacle of my obsession with this game I was near unstoppable. Each time the leader of my team if not the entire game.

NismoR34 - September 30, 2005 03:59 PM (GMT)
Final Fantasy X. This may sound weird but this game was memorable because it just felt like a different when compared to the previous titles. Sure it's Final Fantasy just how we like it, but the exploration and everything just felt completely different. I dunno, I'm just talking shit. :D One memorable scene though is Yuna's dance or whatever it's called near the beginning of the game. God it has been so long now that I can't even remember half of this game. Bah.

Oh, negative moment to do with FFX would be that scene where Tidus and Yuna laugh. So... Damn... Repitive... And... Annoying.

Gran Turismo 4. Finally driving around the Nurburgring and actually feeling like I was doing so. This is definitely the best re-creation of the track you will find. Sometimes I still can't believe just how close it is to the real track...

Jak 3. Laughing my arse off at the Precursors revelation.

Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons and Oracle of Ages. No particular scenes here, but just thought I would mention the awe I had at just how huge these two games are when combined. For Gameboy Colour games, it was fucking amazing...

Positive

Mario Kart - Back in the bad old days, roughly 1998, I broke my upper arm going about my naturally innocent 12 year old business. The school holidays were upon us, and seeing as I wasn't allowed to move my arm at all for 3 weeks, my parents compensated and bought me a Limited Edition Nintendo 64 with Gold Controller. The games were Mario Kart 64 and Bomberman 64 (my mum is a n00b, but that game is pretty good in multiplayer). Aaaaanyway, I remember the first time I played Mario Kart and me and my dad had no idea what was going on. We both held down the A button and the karts did that burnout thing. Good times.

GoldenEye - My mother bought me GoldenEye soon after, and it was a definative moment in my gaming career. It was a perfect day outside, but that mattered not for me. I remember after a hefty 7-8 hour gaming session, putting down the pad for a hard earned drink and noticing no one was home, I went outside and could barely see from squinting due to the brightness.

Grand Theft Auto: Vice City I remember clocking up 24 hours gametime before I had even passed the third mission. I was having far too much fun just driving around, committing wanton violence and havoc and listening to VCPR. Me and my old man loved that game.

Negative

That time when I was saving GTA VC and my dad (being a n00b) turned off the PS2. Boy did we have a gigantic wrestle-slash-fight then. On the plus side, it allowed me to redo the game with near perfect stats. I am awesome.

JJJames7 - October 1, 2005 04:18 AM (GMT)
How did n00b parents create such an awesome son. :P

onimaster77 - December 11, 2005 01:35 AM (GMT)
Double Dragon
This is most probably my favourite game of all time...
Sure Meatal Gear Solid has an awsome story line and takes 30 minutes before you get into any action but this game is truly old school. The starting scene in this game is a guy walks into a bar, kicks you girlfriend and takes her away. Then you start outside the bar and have to fight endless bad guys to get to her. Me and James (him living on the other side of the road) spent hours playing this truly awsome game. It can be played Co-op, one person being Billy (James) and another being Jimmy (Me). Unfortunately we never finished the game and we never saw the ending. We loved this game so much I named my bird Billy (eaten by a dog) and his was Jimmy (ummm not really sure).

Final Fantasy VII

Unquestionably one of the biggest moments in all of video game history. The moment every player was waiting for, salivating for. Square made you hate Sephiroth. He was filthy and evil in every sense, and the entire game was barrelling and building up to this one moment. Forget Jenova, ShinRa, everything. FFVII was Sepiroth. Everything else was side matter. A tormenting figure, of mythical power and skill. He was God on the battlefield. As soon as "One Winged Angel" kicked in, and Sepiroth floated infront of your party, RPG characterization gained a new height that's still unmatched. You killed him off physically, only to face him in a much more prominent place...Cloud's mind. You cleared the world of a threat, and then excersized Cloud's demons. An amazing moment that true fans will never forget, an apex of plot and action making the perfect mix.

Final Fantasy VIII

Cold, desolate space. Squall's character was just as cold and desolate. But in an absolute change of character, he jumps out into the lifeless emptyness of space for Rinoa. Their embrace in the middle of nowhere in the universe was amazing. His ring floating in her helmet, her cold eyes, and him embracing her. Gives me chills.

Texta - December 15, 2005 12:11 PM (GMT)
The New Tetris (N64)
There were a few times when we'd all stay over at someone's house (four of us) and we'd watch some movies, play some video games and I remember a couple of times we'd sit down for some multiplayer Tetris at around 10pm and the next moment it would be 7am and the sun was coming up.

Final Fantasy 7
My favorite part was the bit from when you first see Aeris to just after you see Red XIII and his cubs look over the ruins of Midgar.

Bad gaming moments?

The seven hour Age of Empires 2 multiplayer match I played at a lan that ended in stalemate? It was fun for the first three hours probably.

Buying Age of Empires 3. That kinda sucked balls too. It's not a bad game, but it just doesn't really offer anything and it was hell buggy.

Cubeoid - December 16, 2005 04:52 AM (GMT)
Goldeneye
My best gaming moment doesn't come from my favourite game (PD) and it lasted for about 5 minutes. I remember getting a 64 and Goldeneye (along with OOT) for Christmas. I sat down straight away and started playing the Dam level on GE. I was in awe. It was the first truly 3D game I had ever played and it was just oozing coolness out of every orifice.

Metroid Prime
The moment when I first emerged from Samus's ship I remeber just walking around the first room for several minutes, taking everything in. I was checking every detail, splashing the water, shooting into the sky, letting the rain fall down onto Samus's visor. It was amazing.

Counter Strike: Source
Anyway who plays this game often enough has a CS moment. Mine came in the form of me slaughtering 7 CT's with a CV-47 (the AK). I was the last terrorist left and for 15 seconds there I was untouchable (see:lucky). Nothing feels as powerful as something like that. :P

Warcraft 2
I was playing a game over the net with a friend and he had a HUGE base. It was guarded by rows of tower, walls that were built into the map, a river and a big group of trees. Basically I held my own long enough to make a path into the center of his base without him even knowing. After chopping through a heap of trees, breaking a single gap in a wall and using boats to take troops across a tiny little river (more of a moat really) I sprung a suprise attack at the heart of his base and decimated him. Later he said he first thought I had somehow warped into the middle of his base.

NismoR34 - December 16, 2005 02:54 PM (GMT)
Another small one for me.

Need for Speed: Most Wanted

Look, quite simply, a lot of these cop chases that I have had have been positive moments in my gaming experience. Sure, the AI could be slightly better overall but for what it is, the chases have been intense as fuck. When you evade a 90+ minute chase for the first time, you know this game is the best game in the franchise.

If you say so. :P

Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
I vividly remember my jaw dropping after escaping from Ganon's Castle and seeing Ganondorf burst out of the rubble with his glowing eyes, and then curling up into a ball and revealing his true form. For me, that is the peak of all my gaming experiences, past and present.

Andy - December 21, 2005 05:58 AM (GMT)
Half Life 2: tearing down the canals in the boat in the level: Route Canal. The canals twisted this way and that, as I fought with the controls to keep a consistent line between the myriad of obstacles that seemingly flew into my face. Trucks on carriageways storeys above pop and whistled and laces of smoke trailed towards me, and I would cringe as I braced for impact. The Hunter helcopter swooped behind and around me, I would glimpse back as I heard the copter's cannon spool up, ready for fire. As I rounded the bend, I tried speeding away to safety, only to have the ground peppered with shells... just as I thought I'd cleared everything, and was racing away, out of the corner of my eye, I see the giant smokestack come crashing down in front of my craft, causing me to reef on the steering and brake before collision. I sat at the keyboard, panting... I swear.

Magic Carpet: Watching the world morph and change around me as I lobbed fireballs left, right and yes... even centre. I came to a ridge, only to see a lone man standing, staring back at me. I wonder what he's doing... but then he takes aim at me with his crossbow, and launches death at me. Also, floating peacefully amongst the griffins, just hoping like hell they weren't angry with me is a feeling that is truly serene, yet with a touch of concern.

Metal Gear Solid: A totally new experience, even if some consider it flawed. The story drew me in, and didn't let go... until the part with the "shape memory alloy" key... that part bit.

MGS3: Cinematic. Captivating - albiet a bit predictable in places. Good for the MGS freaks like me who want to see how Big Boss, Ocelot and co. came to be.

Mario 64: Gambolling amongst the trees, surfing shells, just flying about the level "cos I can"... a game that keeps me coming back.

Yeah, the list of memorable moments in gaming could go on for a while with so many in MGS games. I just like to sum it up and say simply, any Hideo Kojima moment is a memorable moment. From start to finish, its an experience.

dave_cool31 - December 24, 2005 07:11 AM (GMT)
Excitebike - A great NES game, which I still have, and one of the first games I played.

The Jetsons (NES) - Looking back on this game, I don't know whether it was actually a great game, or something only a very young boy could like, but I still remember playing this game back when I didn't know the difference between a NES and a Gameboy (yes, I'm that young :P) and having a fun time, even though I never got very far...

Donkey Kong Country - One of the two SNES games I ended up owning (DKC 1 and DKC 3... I wish I had have known about all the incredible SNES games around back then, alas, I was too young) and an awesome game from start to finish, graphically (at the time) and possibly even better in the areas of gameplay and even sound. Featuring one of the most nostalgic soundtracks (for me) of all time, and incredible gameplay that didn't let up, Donkey Kong Country was really a special moment in gaming for me.

1080 Snowboarding - I remember waking up at like 6 in the morning just to play this game the day after we got it, and beating my older brother at a race in it (although he never admitted that that actually took place...). Possibly one of the more obscure snowboarding games to play, with it's difficult and RSI-inducing button config, I still remember one day when I was home from school, playing 1080 for hours and the first time I pulled a 1080. The feeling of doing something like that, that most people lack teh "ski11z" to perform is just fantastic, and I'm pretty sure I still have a replay of me pulling 3 (count 'em, three) 1080's in one half pipe run... Hold R, spin control stick, hold R, spin control stick, press B, hold R, spin control stick, press B, press Z... I lost a few layers of skin off my thumb doing that... Good times.

Super Mario 64 - Just a fantastic game, through and through, although I remember being scared of the ghosts in it when I was a little kid hahaha... I still don't like the ghost levels, though... :P

Mario Kart 64 - Another fantastic game, especially in multi-player, battle mode is still teh win... My stupid brother had to go and sell it though >_< .

I can't really think of many others, right now, we had a PSX once, a memory which I had for some reason sent to the back of my brain, to lay dormant until now. I recall playing some incredible and nostalgic games back in the day, Crash Bandicoot, Spyro the Dragon, Gran Turismo (which I sucked at and didn't like at the time...), Crash Bandicoot 3... My stupid brother went and sold the PSX too, though! >_< x2! Oh, once I had a demo of Bust a Groove, a dancing game on PS1 and then years later (either this, or last year) I played the full version at a friends place and beat the game in like 2 hours or something... That was fun.

^_^ thanks for bringing back some great old memories, guys, now I think I'm going to try to find some old SNES games I always wish I'd bought...

Gio - December 24, 2005 12:20 PM (GMT)
I'm sure this has been done before?

A recent thing for me would be Resident Evil 4.
The whole game was great, really.

The first time encountering the Dr.Chainsaw was a horrible/beautiful moment. I remember walking up to the villagers and firing a couple rounds then I hear the chainsaw, which freaked me out immensly, so I pulled out the shotgun. I shot him down (assuming he was dead) then continued to fend off the villagers, then I heard the chainsaw starting up (which freaked me out AGAIN :P) I turned around and *slice*.

I was incredibly relieved when I finally bet that damn water creature.

Also, the whole Regenerator part nearly gave me nightmares. <_<

The battle with Saddler was awesome too. I know it was easy, but it was very stylish, you could even say it had a cinematic quality to it.
The jet-ski part was pretty fun also.

I haven't really had any "Gaming Moments" with Mario Kart DS, but playing it against my friend is always a blast. ^_^

I just got Path of Radiance and I'm sure that will give me some memories.
I was in a pretty apathetic mood but Fire Emblem fixed that right up. :P

Of course there's so many other moments that I've had, but y'know, *is lazy* . :cheese:

f15active - December 24, 2005 12:46 PM (GMT)
I just remembered one of my best gaming moments. It was in F1Challenge. It happened earlier this year at the end of my league's last championship. Was the 3rd last round of the season and after 15 races I had still not won a race. I managed to get my first ever pole position by the smallest of margins. I lead the race for a while but the car was just too slow and the same guy who had dominated every other race passed me for the lead.

I was ready to take 2nd, happy that I'd done a good job, but then the leader's engine blows up right in front of me and I retake the lead, with no pressure to the finish. Was such a great feeling crossing the line. I probably still have the replay of that race.

dave_cool31 - December 24, 2005 12:47 PM (GMT)
erm... in LFS?

f15active - December 24, 2005 01:04 PM (GMT)
F1Challenge, the game I always talk about.

A negative moment would be when I would have definately won this season's Monaco grand prix but I completely botched the first corner at the start of the race and damaged my suspension. Alot of practice was wasted in seconds.

NismoR34 - December 24, 2005 04:52 PM (GMT)
I am oblivious too. F1 Challenge? (in other words, I'm interested ;))

f15active - December 24, 2005 11:00 PM (GMT)
It's a Formula One game that is a few years old (it includes the seasons of 99-02), but it has 2 dedicated mod teams that make great mods for each season of F1 as they come. 03-05 has been covered by the two mod groups. It is the most popular online racing game for F1 fans. I have no idea where to buy the game, since I acquired it off a friend, but if you are just curious we have a website and on the forum my friend posts video reviews of our races. Its all great fun. Our league is small compared to others.
