Title: Shenmue 3
Description: Coming Next Gen...but on which Console?

Under conditions of strict anonymity, sources close to the development of Shenmue 3 revealed to Kikizo that the project has essentially been close to finished and 'ready' for some time - but in hibernation, pending a deal for the entire series on at least one next-gen console. Kikizo's source is authentic and reliable.
And it may come as a surprise that Yu Suzuki, father of Shenmue and perhaps Sega's most famed game creator, has had very little involvement with the project, bar the original story, which remains in tact. Those are the facts - now let's take a look at everything in more detail.... |

Nice, I was a fan of the first two games, and the second one ended on a damn cliffhanger that I feared would never be answered, good to see it's going to come out :)

This reminds me that I saw Shenmue II and Outrun II offered in a 2 for $40 deal at my local JB a few weeks ago, I meant to pick that combo up.
I'm actually surprised I'm yet to pick up Shenmue II, back in the day it was Shenmue that was a huge selling point for me on the Dreamcast, but I was one of the misguided that didn't pick it up, believing it'd be around for a long time.
Anyway, even though I am yet to play a Shenmue game, this is definitely good news. I mean, generally it's good news when one of the industry's most acclaimed and unique titles is confirmed to have a sequel on the way.

Considring how the second game ended it's a complete kick in the nuts to all that played it that there wouldnt be a sequel, so now hopefully they'll turn into a trilogy :) and finish the story off for this game.
I wonder what platform/s the game will appear on?
Comrade Natrak - August 26, 2005 03:21 AM (GMT)
It wouldn't surprise me if it went multi-platform, either that or went to the Xbox, Microsoft have courted Shenmue once and with a renewed 'take no prisoners' outlook on the japanese market I envision Microsoft doing all they can to at least get the game to be published on their system.

I heard there's 16 chapter all together (from the graphic novel or something) and shenmue 1 contains ch1, and shenmue 2 contains ch3,4 and 5 (ch 2 was skipped in the games, it takes place on the boat from japan to hong kong).
So if shenmue 3 had *just* the finishing story, it'd be ch6-16, but it supposedly contains the entire saga. Gonna be one mother of a game!

Yeah it's a lot chapters, but they could do it, and it would be the best thing, since the games havent sold particlarly well thus far and it would be nice for the series to at least come to a satisfying close.

F**k yes, I never thought we'd actually see Shenmue 3. Whatever console this game comes out for I will be very tempted to buy. Shenmue 1 & 2 are 2 of my favourite all time games.

Back in the day Hyper reported their would be something like 18 installments of this game. Crazy.

Nah you must be having trouble with your memory :P If anything they would have speculated how many games there would be to cover 16 story chapters.
I really doubt there'll be more than 3 games. Lets face it the 3rd game isn't going to sell that great and its probably being made out of service to the fans to conclude the story.
They'll probably skip a few more chapters along the way. I mean how many love interests do they want to give Ryo in the one game? :P
