Title: The Greatest Movie of all time
Description: Evolution Decides
Texta - August 13, 2005 01:16 PM (GMT)
So remember the "Evolutions 102 Greatest Games of all time" from a while back. Well this is the same except for movies.
How it works is:
1. Compile a list of your favourite ten movies and
rank them in order (1. being your favourite movie of all time, 2. being your second most favourite etc)
2. PM them to me.
3. Please use the most common title when identifying films and vote for single movies not series.
I know there's a similar thread going on at hyperactive, however this one is different in that because of the different voting system the movie that comes in second will actually have some value.
If you're stuck for ideas you might want to check out the imdb top 250 movies as voted by their users. Check it.
http://www.imdb.com/chart/topHowever you really only need to look at this page :D

BrotherEstapol - August 13, 2005 01:42 PM (GMT)
What's the deal with Trilogies?
Say I like the LotRs Trilogy, do I have to rank each of the three films, or can just put the whole trilogy in one vote?
Just wondering since if I put in all the LotR and Starwars movies in that doesn't leave me much room for any of my other favourite films...
Lordage - August 13, 2005 01:46 PM (GMT)
I just put the best of each trilogy in. :)
Texta - August 13, 2005 01:50 PM (GMT)
Yeah i thought we'd go for individual movies. Is that cool?
EDIT: Judging by the first three votes (mine, Sytadel's and Lordage's) we should be able to manage a top 200.
~DC - August 14, 2005 07:57 AM (GMT)
Great idea Texta. Can't wait to see the list!
borgster101 - August 15, 2005 12:22 AM (GMT)
This will indeed be interesting.. sending votes
Texta - August 15, 2005 12:32 PM (GMT)
Hey thanks for the votes guys. I'll probably hold voting open for a week or so, but the sooner you vote the better. As awesome as this is, it's not The Definitive "Greatest movie poll" so don't feel you have to spend too long on it.
However you are meant to be picking what you consider to be the best movies of all time, not just ten random movies so if some people want to recast their votes that's cool. :P (The quick test for checking if a movie is worthy of your vote is to watch the end credits... if the name "Al Pacino" appears in it then it is. Everything else is bogus)

Pacino is no deNiro, though.
borgster101 - August 19, 2005 02:32 AM (GMT)
So are you get as much votes as the best of games of all time thread?
Lordage - August 28, 2005 03:06 PM (GMT)
Bump... how's the list going?
borgster101 - August 29, 2005 01:02 AM (GMT)
Looks like it's not going to well, considring the lack of activity in this thread :(
~DC - August 29, 2005 05:17 AM (GMT)
HamburgerTrain - August 31, 2005 11:03 PM (GMT)
It's too hard to rank 10 movies in order. I love too many of them. How 'bout if you change it to that you only can submit one or two?
Texta - September 1, 2005 11:44 AM (GMT)
Yeah, given I've only recieved like 5 votes for probably 49 different films, I'm kinda waiting for a few more people to vote before releasing anything. Perhaps people could just post their lists up here and we can laugh at them ("omg noob Lotr was the suxx0r" kinda thing).
This was my list. I imagine there'd be the odd change if I really sat down and thought about it.

Agent Knight - November 20, 2005 11:40 AM (GMT)
Iroquois, Dr. Strangelove really should have been rated higher. Such a brilliant film, it climbs higher and higher in my list every day. It now sits at about number five. You have a good taste in movies, though, but the Blue Brothers #2 wtf, and Equilibrium should never be mentioned my anyone again. I like how you included Shaun of the Dead and Clerks so highly, as far as I'm concerned they're two of the best comedies of all time. I really should do up a top 100 myself. But perhaps you should check out more arty films like Brazil, Mulholland Dr. and Hana-Bi.
~DC - November 20, 2005 01:04 PM (GMT)
1. Mulholland Drive no question. I wouldn't consider it "arty" either.
But yeah, a few too many recent films in that list Iroquois. The less said about the addition of Spy Kids the better. :P
Iroquois - November 21, 2005 03:06 AM (GMT)
@Estapol - Spy Kids isn't better, and that's why I like it.
@DC - I'm 15. Whaddaya expect? Be lucky I didn't put Wedding Crashers or Deuce Bigalow or some piece of shit on the list.

1. Apocalypse Now
2. The Godfather Part II
3. The Godfather
4. The Bridge on the River Kwai
5. Taxi driver
6. Singin’ in the rain
7. Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas
8. The triplets of Belleville
9. Amelie
10. Any Given Sunday
There wasn't enough consistancy for there to be any point posting a list when this thread *ended* so I didn't bother. Maybe if we get a few more entries.
EDIT: This post would have made sense if JJJames hadn't edited his post.
JJJames7 - November 22, 2005 05:51 AM (GMT)
Ohh, okay man. Guess there isn't any point, but what's up with no Star Wars? It seems everyone voted for that!

I have a different opinion - if people on forums had the same opinions we wouldn't have any interesting discussion. That's my opinion. If you don't like it I have others.
Inquisitor - November 23, 2005 09:37 PM (GMT)
If you claim it's your opinion, and you're defending that, then why did you change Spy Kids and move it up the list (towards 100) after other people said in THEIR opinion that Spy Kids was crap?
Andy - November 24, 2005 12:57 AM (GMT)
1. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
2. Being John Malkovich
3. American Beauty
4. Amelie (I found it charming)
5. Sin City
6. Donnie Darko
7. Mulholland Drive
8. Memento
9. The Red Violin
10. FF: Advent Children... included for its sheer spectacle and the nostalgia.
These aren't in any particular order. When I see brilliant movies, it's hard to determine which one is "better" than another, especially if they're different genres.
But if I had to rank them, the list above is sufficient.

Yeah, but imagine how even more boring it would be if every time people had a difference of opinion they didn't say anything!
And yeah, The Godfather wasn't my number one, but I guess I just think it deserves to be a little higher than 100. It doesn't really matter, but that's my opinion and I might as well share it otherwise we should just shut down the forum and everyone can start their own blog.
Out of interest the IMDB top ten is:
1. The Godfather (1972) 142,961
2. The Shawshank Redemption (1994) 173,103
3. The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (2003) 126,831
4. The Godfather: Part II (1974) 82,118
5. Schindler's List (1993) 109,616
6. Shichinin no samurai (1954) 37,941
7. Casablanca (1942) 73,986
8. Star Wars (1977) 153,270
9. Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back (1980) 119,493
10. Buono, il brutto, il cattivo, Il (1966)
Which just goes to prove that old saying that if 50 million people have a bad idea, it's still a bad idea. (I forget who said that). :D
