Microsoft Corp. announced today the official name of its next-generation Windows client operating system, formerly code-named “Longhorn.”
The new Windows will be officially called "Windows Vista"
The world's largest software company expects to make the test version available to developers and tech professionals by Aug. 3, it said in a statement.
The new software is expected to sport a new graphical interface, giving it a new look and feel, and enhanced security and communications features. The operating system, used on around 90% of computers, accounts for around a third of Redmond, Wash.-based Microsoft's revenue.

Should be interesting to see whether 64Bit will be native with this OS... Although it looks like there may be two versions.
I also preferred Longhorn as a name compared to Vista.

I thought for a second that said "Visa", meaning everytime you wanted to use Windows, you'd have to swipe your credit card
The startup menu looks just the same as it does now *shrugs* I'm not really that excited by this, I don't feel any need to fork out a couple of hundred dollars just for some enhanced security features.

Wow! I'll finally be able to browse this thing called "the internet" and receive "e-mail"! What an age we live in!
I think M$ will stick some bumper stickers to XP boxes and sell them as "Vista" versions...

None the less we'll wait and see I suppose but yay a Operating System oh joy.

I bet there's a huge exploit that's going to be targeted as soon as Vista hits the shelves!! lol, none of Microshonk's OS's have ever been secure.
I'll think I'll be keeping XP for a while anyway unless Vista has a real big advantage.

I heard Windows Vista has built in anti-piracy or some shit? I can't be arsed reading the article. Too tired :(

Aren't all the windows os(s) meant to have anti piracy? :whistling:
Or do you mean anti piracy for every little bit of software? Screw that then. <_<

Copy protection methods are standard issue these days, pity the fixes are found almost instantaneously after release.
