Title: moving out
Description: i'm being abandoned!
markymark - July 9, 2005 10:42 AM (GMT)
conveniently, my parents have decided to move back to bathurst so i'm getting kicked out and have to find my own place. i spent today looking around and have decided i'm going to rent an apartment at place called the entrance (on the central coast of nsw) it's a pretty area and is a fair bit closer to work so i'll save some time and cash on travelling every day. the apartment isn't that amazing but the views are. it's going to cost 200 bucks a week which will be a bit of a squeeze but the cheaper places i looked at were all too dodgy.
i'm not sure if boradband will be available so i may have to go back to dial up which is a horrible thought. although backslash has survived somehow, so i guess i can :D
anyways, if any of you boys are up his way and need a place to crash, give me a pm :D
but for now, please regale me your moving out stories so that i may mentally prepare myself for the ordeal :D

Can't help you there, I'm still at home. :/
Good luck though buddy.
Stevorooni - July 9, 2005 10:57 AM (GMT)
I moved out of home when I was 17
I grew up in the country, and moved to Adelaide to start uni.
I shared a unit with my brother who already lived down here. Parents paid the rent and some bills and I worked part time at McDonalds to cover the rest.
Once I finished uni, my brother and I were ready to kill each other, so I decided to move out on my own.
Now for the past 2 and a bit years I've been living on my own. I have a nicely sized one bedroom unit that costs me $105 a week. I'll probably live here for a few more years while I save for a house, the rent is cheap and I don't think I'd ever get something for this price ever again.
Suity - July 9, 2005 11:00 AM (GMT)
I have things pretty decently here at home, but for some reason I always want to move out and get away.
Uhh be happy with your new found independence.
~DC - July 9, 2005 11:14 AM (GMT)
Good luck marky.
I'm still living at home although am desperate to get a decent job in order to move out in a year or so.
thebigm - July 9, 2005 11:27 AM (GMT)
I am still at home, although I do go for a few drives with parents to the exchange and tis a nice place, even have their own arcade their.
http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/index.cfm?a=wiki&tag=AEG_NSW That should have the listing for whether you can get ADSL or not, just make sure you check the suburb, since the Entrance isn't listed.
Edit: it seems Erina has ADSL, just off entrance road. :)
markymark - July 9, 2005 11:59 AM (GMT)
estapol/suity/dc thanks guys. i'm sure the bitch board will be flooded with my whining once i move :D
steve actually, my parents left me when i was 19 and i worked at maccas to support myself. i rented their house off them for hell cheap and they moved to the coast... so technically i have already moved out... but not really.
bigmyeah, i like it. although in all my time on the coast, i haven't really visited it that much, but i'm looking forward to living there.
thanks for the adsl info, erina is actually pretty far away from the entrance but long jetty is mentioned and that's kinda close. hopefully it's close enough. :D

Just find the closest person to your place who has adsl, break in and plug in a looooong phone extension cord, and tada! Free adsl! :cheese:

Yes, I'm on dialup, but quite often I'd prefer paying the extra cash for broadband, simply because they covered my entertainment cost for anime fansubs and new release movies ;) Plus it makes my connections alot more annoying with dialup, mainly because of the 4 hour session limits and occassionally (sp?) I'll miss phonecalls depending what time I connect to the net. It's a very emotional experience dealing with dialup from broadband :(
I'm surprised how far I've made it considering I'm still only working part time. My neighbour who's about to go on holidays for 12 months, is renting out the same size of my house for $210 a week (mine's $150pw) and that's unfurnished. The owner of mine is sympathetic to young people like me (the house is right near Canning river too), so that's why I'm getting it cheaper.

Always carry a spare set of keys  And make sure all the correct furniture gets sent, as my rug ended up in Queensland. <_<

Why not just secretly tap in a WiFi Router into their Phone Line Steveo? :P
Hello - July 10, 2005 12:38 AM (GMT)
I am on dial-up AND I stilll live at home. I am pretty cool.
I've yet to feel the need to move out of home. I went overseas by myself for 3 months, or so, and that was awesome, but I don't want to move out until I'm fully able to cover all the costs. I have been at uni for 5 years now, I finish this year, and the aim's to move out as soon as I get a secure and stable job. So, I'll probably move out in 2034 :P

Same here.
Might be getting broadband soon though... not sure
Good luck with the move mark , I can't really offer any adivce, being at home and all.
[m]averick - July 10, 2005 10:23 AM (GMT)
I'm 17, and looking forward to moving out next year, due to my preferred Uni being a 3 hour plus drive away. Should be good to get some independency.
Also, more and more people are moving out later and later in life. Unsurprisingly, those in the know, have coined them adultescents.
How old was everyone when they moved out?
[DZ] - July 10, 2005 10:24 AM (GMT)
 I'm with you Hello. I'm not moving anytime soon. Only after uni which is in like... 4 years?! :P
kami - July 10, 2005 11:38 AM (GMT)
Well, I'll be moving out next Sunday. Except, it probably doesn't really count as moving out, more moving into college. The somewhat concerning part is they haven't actually confirmed with us how much it's going to be, just that we had to put down a $200 deposit for it. But they did tell us somewhere in the vicinity of $40 a week.
I don't think I have too much to pack, so most likely I'll be doing it all on Saturday. I've already got my "work clothes" vacuum packed, which leaves the rest of my clothing which shoudl be easy enough to pack. Some of the other stuff has already been set aside and I'm pretty sure if it'll just take Saturday to pack it into the car.
Though I might need to go shopping for a few things like clothes hooks for doors that don't leave a mark (I'm thinking either one of those 3M ones or hooks that hang off the top of the door)

22. That's because my parents did a similar thing to markymark's parents, where one day they just turned around and said to me
"We're moving to Queensland".
The month after that, they were off along with all their furniture and I had to sort out trying to get a job transfer as well as a place nearby to lease.
Took me 12 job applications until I got something better than just casual hours. Hasn't been an easy journey since then
My friends were 18 when they moved out to go from Margaret River to Perth. Now all of them are living with their parents again since they couldn't cope and preferred the more quieter environment. I don't blame them really. However, I don't think I'll be moving again for at least another 10 years. I'm basically going to renovate and then cash in on the profit.

yes you are mate, and don't let anyone tell you different.
kami good luck with that mate. we can share stories next week :D
question: for those of you who have moved out, have you found it's been good for your health/fitness? currently i'm a fat bastard but i have all these grand plans of getting a bike, starting some regular exercise routines and whatnot and becoming ripped and hott in no time. i'm under the impression that when i have no one to work around but myself, it'll be easier to sort all this stuff out. but i may just be deluded.
does anyone have an encouraging moving out weightloss story they can share? or is bachelor living just going to make me even lazier than i already am?

2. Yes, since I don't have a car I have to ride everywhere. Buying a new bike was high on my priority list. Since February I've clocked up over 1500kms. I can't see much difference but I've been told I do look fitter. In terms of muscles, I've noticed none really except on my legs. I was already skinny to begin with so it's hard to notice the difference. Perth hasn't got many hills either, so that's another reason.
If you want to lose weight quickly, find a bitch of a hill and try to ride up it :D Do that twice a day and that'll get you off to a good start

I moved out when I was 17, went to uni for six months then dropped out. Moved back in with my parents for six months saved up for a bond and moved to Brisbane with a mate of mine.
My parents live in a town called Toogoolawah it's one of those towns that your meant to feel sorry for cause all the young people leave, or stay and never get a job(cause basicully there aren't any). So after dropping out of uni there was no question of me moving elsewhere.
After I moved to Brisbane(Lutwyche, it's a hole not too far from the city, it seems like it's a dumping ground for all the teenage mothers in the Brisbane) I was jobless. This meant that dinner was most often sausages on bread, sometimes with sauce sometimes with butter, Never both. If I was going all out it'd even have onions.
We never bothered to call the gas company(for the hot water only) but they never turned it off so we got free gas. We did get a letter from the Gas company after six months but the place had been sold so we were moving out and never replyed(hahahaha).
Now I have a job, live in a MUCH nicer place(my old room wouldn't fit a double bed, and there were pipes in my closet) and have onions with my sausages ALL the time.
joeluss - July 11, 2005 09:48 AM (GMT)
I moved out as soon as I was 18. Now, don't get me wrong, I love my parents, exept living with them for any longer would be hell. And my mum hate my girlfriend.
Suity - July 11, 2005 11:22 AM (GMT)
If I were to try move out I don't really know what would happen. On one hand I think my mother wouldn't mind me leaving, but it may be a different story if I were to actually seriously consider it but on the other hand, I think it would really piss of my father and have some repercussions.
First off, he doesn't really have any idea about people these days my age and seems to think that my sister is going to be here until she is 25, but everyone knows that is not going to happen because she just doesn't like it. It is then that I realised my dad wants us all to stay together or something.
Also when I've mentioned something (not seriously though) about how I assume things would be if I moved out he always asks "why, are you leaving sometime soon?" in that joking on the outside but serious on the inside kind of way.
Now, i'm going to need my fathers help in these next couple of years of my life, mainly financially, with things such as a car, uni fees or whatever schooling I manage to go too, etc. I've been thinking if I leave, though this could seem a little stupid, that my dad would be reluctant to help me out because I left him. I imagine he'll give me some bullshit like "Well you moved out you should do these things yourself".
In the end I don't want to look ungrateful and look like i'm just using my dad.

Well, I'll probably have it much easier than you conidering the rent covers the utilities and broadband internet ^_^
Though the reality of moving (read: wtf am I doing?) is starting to gradualy creep in the last few days. Particularly since I have no idea if I'll actually get a job, given my rather horrible history with appliations (including the one time I did get an interview... but kind of hung up before I remembered to actually ask where the interview was ^_^;; ), but I guess I'll just spam applications and hope I at least get one.

Well, the current trend does seem to be that most people will stay with their parents wel into their twenties. But I assume your sister probably would rather move out.

Well, you could always sit down with your father and have a patronising "i know I'm leaving but that doesn't mean I love you any less" speech XD

i laughed at the onions and sausage story...
as for moving out, for some reason i am still at home. i was going to move out and go to uni (up the other end of the state) this year, but i was given a job, and it pays alot, so i stayed home for an extra year. now i have all this stuff that i dont think i will be able to keep when i move out next year to become a poor uni student...

Shotgun!
I'm 17, still in school and still at home :) I could have had my licence 4 months ago, but am yet to get the required professional lessons. No idea what that has to do with anything, but meh.
On one hand, i wouldn't mind moving out with some friends say next year or the one after that, but i will probably stay for quite a while, depending on whether i go to uni or not.

Congrats on the apartment mark :)
I'm having troubles again with money (see bitch thread) so I'm not sure whether I should keep on renting or buy now with possibilty of bankruptcy (if I continue to rent and still save for another year, the result would still be the same). I wonder if I should move to Queensland with my folks?...
kami - July 13, 2005 12:44 PM (GMT)
In slightly moving out related news today, Ii got these clothes hooks that sort of hang off the top of the door (since I tend to hang up the clothes I've worn that don't need to be wshed yet). I got home, went to try it out, and it seems that there isn't enough of a gap in the door at the top. Hopefully my new room won't have this problem, or I've just waster $10 on clothes hooks ^_^;;
