Title: E3 Access DVD
ultracrazy1 - July 6, 2005 11:40 AM (GMT)
I've seen this showing up on a few websites, and haven't been to the shops in a week or so but it should be out here pretty soon.
So even though you may have read a whole bunch about E3, you must have missed a few games and it'll be good to see them in motion. Like if you check last year's dvds you'll find direct feed of God of War. Nobody thought God of War was anything in May last year.
Anyone got this yet? Anything I should keep an eye out for?
DJ-Civic - July 6, 2005 11:59 AM (GMT)
I went into EB today looking for it, but no luck yet. According to DVDcrave it comes out this Friday the 8th, so I'll check EB again then. If I can't find it there, I'll get it from dvdcrave.
I didn't watch the Sony or MS conferences, so there's something new for me. Plus it's always better to see the games on your TV. Makes you feel like you're playing them... ;) (ok, maybe not)
borgster101 - July 6, 2005 12:10 PM (GMT)
I'll be getting this, since last years edition was so awesome :D . It's supposed to come out on Friday, it's a bit concerning that no stores have it in stock yet, as we know usually they tend to get products in a little early and if they dont then the product may be suffering a delay :( .
Either way, I'll be getting it as soon as I can :D
kami - July 6, 2005 10:35 PM (GMT)
I'll probably be giving it a miss, since the DVD tends to feel rather redundant once the actual games are out :D
Whereas I could use that money for more manga ;)
borgster101 - July 7, 2005 04:57 AM (GMT)
Yeah, but the DVD lasts about a year, there are some games that have just come out now that are on the E3 Access 2004 DVD :D .
Given the price, it's well worth the money in my opinion :D .
Hopefully, it is released tomorrow :) .
ultracrazy1 - July 7, 2005 05:30 AM (GMT)
I think its pretty good value. It takes a few days to watch, and you can come back to it in a month or a year's time and notice things you didn't before.
I love watching game footage too. I rarely buy a game these days without downloading a heap of videos for it.
/backslash - July 7, 2005 06:18 AM (GMT)
I'll check at EB tomorrow and see if it's there, if not, I won't worry about it. I'm one of those "if it's there and I can see it, I'll buy it" people.
I sort of enjoyed last year's one, but there were too many long clips of dodgy games and then there was crappy footage with short length clips on the better games (like Burnout 3)
BrotherEstapol - July 7, 2005 07:14 AM (GMT)
I think I'll give it miss this year...I've got the E3 video's I want already. ;)
Hello - July 7, 2005 07:51 AM (GMT)
If this is similar to that MTV 360 launch, then I'll be keeping my money in my wallet.
BrotherEstapol - July 7, 2005 08:06 AM (GMT)
Nah, if past few DVD's are anything to go by, it's basically just a few DVD's filled with gameplay videos, trailers, and interviews for games that were at E3. They also contain the pre-E3 confrences for Nintendo, Microsoft and Sony.
Shadow Knight - July 7, 2005 08:41 AM (GMT)
Well iwas overseas at the time of E3 and couldn't be buggered watching the vids etc. ( i did for one or two) so i might check this out.
borgster101 - July 7, 2005 11:08 AM (GMT)
I decided to order online since my local EB's dont know anything about it  .
I'll have to wait until Monday at the least though, since it's not 'in stock' yet..
/backslash - July 8, 2005 09:51 AM (GMT)
Is everyone else's EB still having stocktake clearances? I went in there today and it's almost impossible to find out what's new and whether the E3 DVD has fallen into the stacks of games along the tables.
I didn't bother asking the front counter since there's always a 10 person+ waiting line and only 1 guy working. Even the central Perth EB is quieter than the one at the Cannington Carousel.

Yeh, that and I think I had more footage in total then them from the event, my E3 folder was at 20GB before I started deleting some stuff. :D

Yeah, the EB sale ends sometime this month I believe. I doubt they'd throw this DVD in the piles of discounted stuff... but who knows hey. ;)
But I don't think it's out yet anyway, as NextGenVideos are really slack when it comes to distributing the DVD - as they are every year. They promise "late June", but a month later it shows up at EB.
tinklez - July 8, 2005 04:55 PM (GMT)
Lik-Sang are one of the official suppliers of the E3 Access DVD's and they've got shipment slated for the 11th of July (this coming Monday). Enjoyed last years edition so much so I preordered mine prior to the expo. :)
borgster101 - July 9, 2005 12:45 AM (GMT)
DVDCrave emailed me and said that there was a shipping delay, it should be received by Wednesday at the latest I was told, so it's not to long now :) .
I dont bother with EB with the NextGenVideos products anymore, my local EB is still selling the 2003 edition (Future of Videogames 2K4), and I have never seen E3 Access 2004 in EB.
So yeah online seems to be the best option for the NextGenVideos product. I believe "late June" is the US release, because I'm pretty sure IGNGamestore have it now.

I nearly bought that until I remembered what year we're in
"Gran Turismo 3 preview code? Wow! I've gotta see this!"
ultracrazy1 - July 11, 2005 03:59 AM (GMT)

borgster101 - July 11, 2005 04:29 AM (GMT)
It's in stock now at DVDCrave, :) hopefully they will ship it today, *waiting for email* Argh!!
ultracrazy1 - July 11, 2005 01:56 PM (GMT)
DJ-Civic - July 11, 2005 01:59 PM (GMT)
EB is getting it on August 7? Screw that. *places order with DVDcrave*
ultracrazy1 - July 11, 2005 05:20 PM (GMT)
I doubt you'd get it much cheaper than dvdcrave anyway. I'm predicting EB charge about $40, I think thats what it was last year.
borgster101 - July 12, 2005 12:49 AM (GMT)
DVDCrave should be shipping my order today, so I should have it tomorrow, awesome :D .
Never bother with EB with NextGenVideos products, they get it too late (or not at all) and the price is inflated.
tinklez - July 12, 2005 10:04 AM (GMT)
Goddamnit, now Lik-Sang has it listed for the 15th of July. Talk about shooting yourself in the foot. Not only am I paying a bit more for the DVD, it seems as if I'll be getting it later than everyone else.
I don't get how DVDCrave has it in stock already whilst Lik-Sang (whom said when they were taking preorders were associated with the project) not have any available yet. Grrr...
DJ-Civic - July 12, 2005 02:37 PM (GMT)
Well NextGenVideos is a local business located here in Qld, so shipping them to DVDcrave in Adelaide would be quicker than Lik-Sang in Asia I presume.
UC1 and borgster, the DVD has an RRP so EB can't inflate the price. I bought 2003's edition from them for $29.95. I also saw last year's DVD for like $15, but after a few months of release.
borgster101 - July 13, 2005 04:03 AM (GMT)
Civ, yeah I wouldnt think EB could inflate the price, I was just going by what was said before.
Anyway my copy arrived this morning, and it's what I expected, very happy with the purchase :) .
There is SO much content on these DVDs, that I have hardly seen anything yet, thus far I've checked out a major part of the Nintendo disc, there is some great footage of Zelda showing all 4 of the E3 demos :D , I also checked out some special features and a bit of Xbox stuff, but yeah I've still got a lot to see and see again ;) .
This year, they have included the 'Floored' editions all over the place, (i.e. the Nintendo stuff is on the Nintendo disc, Sony Floored on the Sony disc etc) rather than having all the Floored episodes in one place, it works ok I guess but makes the stucture a little less 'organised' than the 2004 edition, nevertheless the 'Next' button is very handy with these DVDs since you never really just sit and watch, you're always messing around jumping to stuff you want etc...
It's a worthwhile purchase yet again  .

Now that's coverage! I hated last year's short demos of some of the bigger name games like Burnout 3. I mean who wanted to see a 10min demo of Area 51?
Hopefully my copy arrives tomorrow.
borgster101 - July 15, 2005 03:04 AM (GMT)
I've now had a good look at most of the package, the MS press conference was pretty decent, the crowd was much more alive than last year, with Nintendo the crowd was simliar to last year, but when Iwata said that he wasnt going to go into detail about the Revolution controller there was some clear disapointment in the a crowd, I think even a couple of boos. I havent checked out Sony's press conference fully, but from what I saw so far they crap on too much about the technology.
So yeah, it's been a good package, the best game coverage is when you get the exclusive reps playing the game and explaining stuff as they play, as it's great to see the actual game in action, rather than a trailer of various footage.
On the Nintendo disc, there isnt much coverage like this, except for Zelda, and suprisingly Super Mario Strikers (which actually looks pretty good), but on the Xbox and PS2 discs there is 'a lot' more coverage with reps playing the game.

That's because much of the attendees were hired (not unlike that MTV travesty of an unveiling prior) and were payed to cheer wildly at anything that was remotely interesting. Seriously.
Anyways, Lik-Sang finally shipped my order. Now for the long wait by the mailbox. Great to hear that there's a few footage of reps demonstrating their games -- one of the things I enjoyed the most from last year's edition. Speaking of which, is that hottie Nintendo rep (Claudia Somethingorother), who demostrated Donkey Kong Jungle Beat last year, back on this year's DVD? :P
ultracrazy1 - July 15, 2005 07:26 AM (GMT)
Yep my order has been shipped too. I don't mind waiting cos I've also got a component cable for PS2 and another Hori fighting stick EX -> PS2 cable on the way.
You know out of the press conferences, I really prefered Sony's. Microsoft's had waaaaaay too much marketing lingo, like "we're going to bring a billion people to gaming next generation" and while Nintendo's was very entertaining, there just wasn't that much on show.
If you guys see an awesome looking game that hasn't got much press let us know.

Not surprising when you consider that the GameCube has shit-all games left coming for it. -_-
Anyway, I thought my order would've arrived today as it shipped wednesday... but no luck.

Really :o , well that explains it  They certainly did their job.

Unfortantly, no but if you want hotties there is a lot more 'booth babe' coverage this year ;) .

Yeah I really didnt buy MS's 'we're' going to bring a billion people to gaming, they didnt really say how they where going to do that. With Sony, the PS3 trailers where nice, but I felt they took too long talking about the specs and the graphics power of their new system, this was of particular note because during the conference the attendentees were told, "to remain there until the end of the show, because they have a big suprise" (i.e. the PS3 console). And yeah Nintendo's was lots of fun, even if there wasnt much suprises, since we knew about most products already.

Yeah I suppose, but still there is footage of games like Fire Emblem, Pokemon XD, Battalian Wars, Mario Baseball, DDR Mario Mix and Geist but not with the reps playing them :( would have been nice to see a few of these games get that sort of coverage.
Nevertheless some of the games covered in this way on the other discs are multi format games anyway.
St@ckboy - July 17, 2005 11:20 AM (GMT)
To those who have a copy already, what are the highlights?
DJ-Civic - July 18, 2005 01:20 PM (GMT)
Got my copy today and managed to watch the Xbox conference, which was annoying thanks to the interestingly placed 20-somethings behind the presenters. I mean honestly, who "woos" at EVERYTHING? Notice there were NO journos sitting in that section?
At least it was cool to see all the game trailers on my TV. Gears of War looks unbelievable!
Eyce - July 18, 2005 10:08 PM (GMT)
Yeah Civ, they were hired guns. :P
So how much was the DVD set?
ultracrazy1 - July 19, 2005 05:22 AM (GMT)
Should be going for around $25 if you buy online.
DJ-Civic - July 20, 2005 12:09 PM (GMT)
Yeah, $24.95 should be the RRP.
Anyway, I watched the Sony conference and man I literatelly fell asleep as they blabbed on about specs, ram, FLOPS, MIPS, transistors...
"Now let me show you some leaves move around...." :needsleep:
At least the demos look great on a TV though.
borgster101 - July 21, 2005 01:15 AM (GMT)
The Sony conference always manages to bore me, the demos (when finally shown) were nice though :) .
DJ-Civic - July 22, 2005 02:40 PM (GMT)
Ok, watched the PS2/3 dvd and now watching the Nintendo disc. The Sony disc was ok, but was lacking top games. The Nintendo disc on the other hand - what a disappointment! Dear God, there are NO worthwhile games coming out for it if the game isn't called Zelda. All the games that got demonstrated were just crap (wtf is 1 piece battle?) and the only other one that caught my eye was Mario Strikers. Looks quite fun.
