Title: Another Code: Two Memories
Description: Point and click adventuring hits the DS!

borgster101 - July 1, 2005 05:36 AM (GMT)
I just realised that this game will be released in Australia, NEXT WEEK!! :o

The game is out now in Japan and Europe and wont hit the US until September it seems (and it's also getting a name change in the US - Trace Memories), was anyone aware of this suprisingly early release?

Looking at the reviews thus far the game seems to be promising, where the main negatives are that its; (1) short (6 hours or so) and (2) can get frustrating with obscure puzzles. The funny thing is that these negatives contradict eachother, if you get stuck then the length of the game could increase dramatically! At the moment though there isn't a huge amount of reviews to consider, but it does seem to be a game that one has to play themeselves and hence experience it for themselves.

Something to keep an eye on thats for sure!

! why didn't anyone tell me this was out sooner?! Oh well nevermind I don't really have cash to spend on games atm anyways but Another Code is definitely on my list of games to buy... Does anyone here have it yet? And if so tell us what you think please?

My local EB said they should receive it today, I didnt have the time to check later on though, so I'll be checking tomorrow should have the game by then and will post impressions.

Is this an adventure game in the same vein as Broken Sword or classic Lucasarts titles?

borgster101 - July 8, 2005 02:10 AM (GMT)
Well I picked up the game today, and thus far it's been great, probably my favourite DS game so far :D .

It has excellent presentation, interesting storyline, and the game plays very well. It's basically the classic point and click adventure game, you wander around an island and its mansion examining the environments and looking for clues about your father and a deeper mystery about the island.

The controls are essentially all through the touch screen and it works well for a game of this time, you basically tap the screen where you want to go on the bottom screen and on the top screen is a first person view of your surroundings, you can then closer examine these surroundings using the touch screen by touching the appropriate icon.

The stylus essentially works like a mouse would in a game of this type, having not played many of these games before (since I dont play many PC games), it's certainly something different, especially for the handheld :) .

Also, most suprising we got this game before US :o !!

Recommended :D

sounds good, how would you compare it to, say, the Myst series? oh and how much was it? $70?

Is it actually made by Nintendo? Also would you consider this to be a game that makes the DS become a definite purchase borgster? As I really, really love adventure games however nothing else has really interested me from the DS as of yet...

I'm probably getting the game today or tomorrow...

It's made by a company called "Cing" in conjunction with Nintendo, (Satoru Iwata is the executive producer).

I'm not sure if this game makes the DS a 'definte' purchase, since the game is rather short (I'm rather close to the end now) so if you're buying a DS just for this game then I dont know whether it's worthwhile, as with games of this type once completed there isnt a huge amount of stuff to do.

Having said that if you love adventure games, you'll probably get enjoyment out of this game, primarly because there isnt really anything else like it on handheld systems. Also, the puzzles in the game are very clever, using the capabilties of the DS in very effective ways, the touch screen, dual screens and microphone are utilised within the puzzles themselves, with some clever solutions. I dont want to spoil anything, but lets just say that the abilities of the DS are used brilliantly, which is indeed promising for the potential of future games.

So in answer to your question, I'd say that I'm confident you'd enjoy this game, however if you're not interetsted in any other DS software I'm not sure if the game has enough value to warrant a DS purchase.

Well I havent actually played the Myst games so I can't really comment on that, but reviews have made some comparisons with the games, it seems if you've played Myst then Another Code is probably "not as good", having said that though there are various puzzles in the game that use the DS in clever ways that you couldnt pull them off on a PC.
The price was $70, but I suppose it could be cheaper in stores like Big W.

I couldn't find this game any where during the weekend? Oh well saved me $270, which is good.

Thanks for the info borgster. ;)

I'm not sure what I should get. I'm already gettin' BF2, But I've got enough money to get this game, or the new HP book, and have some left over dosh. What should I do?

borgster101 - July 11, 2005 02:44 AM (GMT)
No worries mate, glad to help :) .

Finished the game now, total game time 10 hours, it is short but I've heard that there are some differences second time through, hopefully a sequel will be longer :) .

UltraGekko - July 11, 2005 02:52 AM (GMT)
Did 10 hours include getting stuck with puzzles etc? I've heard others finished it in 5 hours or so which in my opinion would make a game short.

Considering how many games I have yet to finish, 10 hours would be a decent play length for me.

borgster101 - July 11, 2005 05:33 AM (GMT)
Yeah in included getting stuck etc.. it's the time on the game file, hey wandering what the hell to do and trying different stuff is still 'playing the game'.

I highly recommend this game, the visual style is a real treat, the storyline and atmostphere is very gripping and the puzzles thus far, while simple, have been enjoyable. The Point and Click mechanics work incredibly well on the DS and there are a few imaginitive ways the DS is used in certain 'puzzles'. (For instance, one required me to open and close the DS a couple of times.)

This along with Yoshi Touch & Go (and let's not forget Kirby's Canvas Curse is on the way) really make the DS a definite purchase in my mind. Buy the game before it's too late!

I still haven't been able to find this in the shops? I guess I will just have to order it from DVDcrave.

borgster101 - July 21, 2005 11:50 PM (GMT)
Careful Natrak dont want to spoil the clever puzzles now ;) .

Comrade Natrak - July 22, 2005 03:05 AM (GMT)
Yeah, I tried not to, that's why I didn't mention anything within context. :P

I was amazed that there were several copies at my local Harvey Norman when I bought it the other day after all the trouble I'd heard others had had finding it.

well its time for a thread rivival!

Got this yesterday, at myer. Even tho, it is a game that I wanted to get, it was kinda an impules buy, saw it sitting there and thought, stuff it lets get it.

anyway I have been playing for 3 hours and so far its been pretty interesting, even with 1 and 1/2 hours of no idea on what I should do next. hopefully some down time from it will give me an idea on what I should do to solve this puzzle. I'm around frannys room at the moment.

at the moment I would give it 3 and 1/2 stars out of 5 so far.

borgster101 - September 18, 2005 08:59 AM (GMT)
It's a short game, so getting stuck is frustrating but good since it means you wont finish it so quick.

cd2 - September 18, 2005 09:15 AM (GMT)
Well I managed to find a hidden room as soon as I start playing again but then I got stuck again.. Some times you just feel stupied

borgster101 - September 19, 2005 07:05 AM (GMT)
 There is some very clever puzzles in the game let me just say that :) .

cd2 - September 27, 2005 12:37 AM (GMT)
Well its been completed yesterday.

I still stand by my 3 1/2 stars. The only thing that let it down was replay ability and length of the game. I'm going to try and play through one or two more times to find some missing DAS cards and anything else I may of missed during the first run.

After that it will defently be on Ebay or try and trade it in at EB for AW DS or Kirby Canvas, so if you interested you could PM me for it, I would be after between $40 and $50 on Ebay, so you would be looking at an offer like that.
