Title: Injuries
Description: Because pain is freakin' hilarious
JJJames7 - June 28, 2005 04:57 AM (GMT)
Latest injury of mine can be found at our website in my sig. Here's the extract:
End of chrismas holidays 2005. Jono has just started riding. Him, Jack swan and Tom Campbell are up at Mach 10 (secret. Not telling where it is) There is a small but slightly off-camber jump.Jono gives it a shot but for some reason his feet come off and he loses control and stacks it headfirst into a pricklebush. Jono sustained scratches all up his arm and he cracked his visor on his fullface.
Photos of that later. it's not pretty though.
My other major injury occoured when I was 12, and it was Easter. So I had just turned 12. I purchased a new skateboard and wanted to try it out, so I planned to give it a shot on the street.
Now, you'll have to understand two things here. One is that we have a big house with that spear design as a fence out the front. Our fence is just a row of spears, which I'm sure you have all seen before. Secondly, We have an intercom which visitors press and we can unlock the gate from a thing inside.
Now then, since I wasn't tall enough to press the intercom to tell my parents to open the gate, I had to step on my skateboard in order to hit it. However, I lost my balance and yep, I slipped. The board slipped from under me and one of the spears went straight through my underarm. 20 stitches. Amazingly, my arm is fine.

Injuries, awkward moments, shinies we blow money on... I'm starting to see a almost-voyueristic trait in you here, JJJames. Next thing you're going to go door-to-door trying to sell life insurance to us and secretly install spycams when our backs are turned. :P
The worst thing I've prolly ever done to myself is torn the minor ligament (can't remember the exact names of the muscles; it's not the one that footballers who do thier knees in need a reconstruction for) in my right knee twice and I never bothered to go to the hospital the second time. No treatment, no physio, nothing. It's been a little gimpy to this day.
My younger brother had Scarlet Fever when he was 4, as well, although that's not an injury as such, it's bloody strange in this day and age.
auikds - June 28, 2005 08:12 AM (GMT)
well i havent really ever injured myself to seriously, although i am yet to lose control of my car at 170kmh...
but as part of my job i have to cut up pieces of hose, now it is a rubber hose with a metal braid in the middle so it creates alot of sparks when i cut it with a drop saw. they used to get all over my hands and arms - they burn - and stick to your skin till they cool. so after i had been working in that job for a while i sorta got used to the sparks on my arms/hands. then i got one on my lips. it is possibley the most painful thing i have ever felt. i managed to let off a string of expetitives befor i finally managed to wipe it off...
the moral of this story - pieces of hot metal on your lips is bad...
quartz_donkey - June 28, 2005 08:51 AM (GMT)
I scraped half my knee off on to the road, I could see my knne cap, it was cool. I just couldn't help myself and had to look at it move, it hurt a lot but cool.
umm cut myself all the time at work and there are big toe nail clipping sized bits of hot metal flying around commonly.

- I broke several bone fibres in grade 3, after a football hitting the tip of my finger.
- Currently, my right Index finger is killing me after hitting a doorframe hard.

Yeah, I had scarlet fever when I was 7 or 8, and mumps when I was 3 or 4. Both of which are pretty unusual nowadays.

I'm sure I know someone called "Jack Swan" but I'm not sure where from... South Australia perhaps, went to the Evatt competition Canberra. I dunno, I know too many people damn it.

I went to Cambridge on a weekend when there was a mumps epidemic. Something like 50% of the students had mumps. I didn't get it though, and my groin is very grateful.
My dumbest injury was when I was trying to scare my dog and jumped at him, but jumped into a doorframe. Needles in the skin on the top of your head make me feel sick.

Lets see. When I was about 8 or so I got hit on the face by a moving bicycle. Tore the inside of cheeck pretty bad. Knocked some teeth out and left my left cheeck looking like I had a tennis ball inside.
Next one was about the same age - we lived in a place where lots of guys had bikes, so we the kids would get on them to much around in. Then one day a guy gets there and after he hops off I decide to get on - only to put my knee next to burning hot exhaust. My skin sizzled and bubbled up into a weird shape. Poured cold water on it and peeled it off. You can still see it today...
And don't remind me of the time I shoved a pencil near the temple on my head, coming cm's away from poking my eye out.

Not really an injury but I had appendicitis (spelling?) when I was 9 years old. It actually burst inside of me and apparently I was lucky so survive but yeah, that happened.
I also scrapped my knee really badly with a bicycle incident when I was younger too. Ripped off all of my skin on the knee and down a part of my leg too. All I can remember from that was that it was impossible to have that leg under the sheets of my bed because it hurt so fricken much. I had to have my sore leg resting on a chair beside my bed.

I've had a couple of broken bones n stuff, but the most pain I've been in was from sunburn.
Most of my chest, arms and back got burnt sometime when I was at the beach during the highschool years. It took a while for the pain to really kick in because at first I just went really dark and thought it'd go away.
The next day I had a shower and the towel I used was from the day before, so it had a bit of salt and sand in it from the beach. I thought it'd be fine to use cos it was still dry and clean, but the salt and sand really irritated the sunburn, and I was in heaps on pain for the next few days.
A funny memory comes from it though, I was in line at the chemist to get some cream for the burn, and the lady in front of me was taking ages asking about whether or not the moisturiser or wrinkle cream she was getting had avocado in it or some shit. I was like gritting my teeth and saying under my breath "who cares you wrinkly old bitch, I'm farking dying here!"

Yeah, thankfully I didn't get either badly, so it's all good.

I've fractured my wrist playing football and I broke my hip 10 pin bowling (yes, 10 pin bowling), which hurt a hell of a lot. I've still got pins in both my hips to this day, some 6 or so years after the nasty fall at the local bowling alley. :D

Worst injury for me so far was breaking my ankle.
I was still in high school, playing hockey on the town's local sports ground. Situated on the defense side, I stole the ball from another player and when I looked up some huge guy from the other team "accidently" mistook my foot for the ball as he was planning to hit a goal. Needless to say, I was in a fair bit of pain and when the sports teacher looked at it, he said "I was fine". I rested anyway for the final 10minutes and then everyone packed up and left the sports ground, walking towards the school which was about 800m away. The teacher got in his car and drove back, didn't even bother asking me for a lift
At this point, it was already lunchtime for us and I was missing out since I could barely walk. My friend offered to help me walk back, but after the halfway point (which took 20mins for 400m) he said he didn't want to miss out on lunch, so he ran ahead. By the time I got back to school lunch had already ended (it was a 40minute lunch break).
I had ordered lunch that day and found out someone had stolen mine from the canteen just to make things even worse. Then when I reported to the first aid room, my parents were called and I was taken to the hospital soon after.
Rested up for a whole week at home with my leg in a cast.
"I was fine" my ass! Stupid P.E. teacher...

My dumbest injury was riding my bike, looking down at my shadows along the road and crashed into the back of a parked car

I had the same deal with my own P.E teacher the first time I tore my knee. I didn't actually feel any pain for at least ten minutes with the injury so they didn't really think much of it. It wasn't until I tried climbing the stairs to the nurse's office that the hurt kicked in and I had to nearly scream with the force to shatter glass to wave it off.
Of course, there's also the case of the dentist who nearly choked me to death but that's another story.

hmm, today at work i stabbed my hand with a piece of wire. the first aid guy reckoned i hit a blood vessel. not much pain, but there was a heap of blood considering it was only a little hole.
