Title: GTA: Liberty City Stories
Description: Coming to a PSP near you!
[DZ] - June 10, 2005 11:50 PM (GMT)
Okay, first details have emerged. Saw them over at PALGN. Here they are:
- The main character is Tony Cipriani
- It's set in 1998
- Several characters from GTA 3 return
- You can load MP3s off the memory stick for the radio
- Packages, Jumps and Rampages are in all new locations
- Flying vehicles haven't been decided on - hardware (probably battery time) is considered a limiting factor
- The San Andreas aiming system is in
- Bikes and other vehicles from the later GTA games are in
- The city looks a little different because of the earlier setting
- Missions will be shorter because of the portable format
- There will be more missions than GTA 3And it will probably be released in October.
Stay tuned, first screens might be emerging soon.
I've come across
THIS SITE HERE. It looks good.
They have screens, but I'm pretty sure they're real. They're probably scans from Official PS2 mags...

Also, keep an eye on the
FORUMS.

Great, now I have to reconsider getting a PSP and a bigger Memory Stick. Thanks alot. :P But Toni Cipriani? Damn, I hated that chubby freak...
Silph - June 11, 2005 09:40 AM (GMT)
Tony Cipriani? Strange character to use.
He looks a bit like Tommy Vercetti in those blurry pictures too.

Those pics remind me of Syphon Filter. Ahh, Gabe Logan, he was my hero.

Still want to know why Rockstar haven't hired any decent character modelers.

This game is probably my most wanted PSP game at the moment. I put the trailer on my PSP the other day and it looks fantastic.
Thanks for the heads up on the Eurogamer preview DZ, seems like the game will live up to expectations.
In terms of loading times, I remember reading something about it will only load when you first start the game and when you change islands. I think Rockstar will have a better idea of how to code for lower load times as they did cut the load times in half for the PAL release of Midnight Club 3.
Here's hoping we get it the same time as Europe
JJJames7 - September 13, 2005 11:06 AM (GMT)
The Eurogamers preview looked sweet as. Interesting to see if they include an MP3 station, seeing as none was mentioned. It's obviously an easy thing for gamers to do, none of the transporting of files on the PC games, which may have troubled some people.
Damn it, to PSP or not to PSP...
[DZ] - September 13, 2005 09:15 PM (GMT)
Yeah, thats a good idea too, MP3 station. That would rock.
And thats "to PSP", James. ;)
Stevorooni - September 14, 2005 05:58 AM (GMT)
I was going to try and avoid buying a psp, but this game will probably make me pick one up now!
[DZ] - September 14, 2005 10:52 AM (GMT)
I'm just waiting for Xmas, when the price gets cut. But I also wanna buy a PS3 in 2007. And even earlier, a 360 next year. So much, so little.

Did they say there's going to be a price cut?
Or are you just hoping like me? :P
Stevorooni - September 18, 2005 08:50 AM (GMT)
haha I was just looking at the official site and there's an article on how there's a petition to ban motorcycles in Liberty city. I guess that's why you can't use motorcycles in GTAIII :P

Got this yesterday and have been having a ball! So far I give it a very high recommendation.

I would have got the US version off DVD Crave but there is one thing that is stopping me from buying the game- the controls. From the video's I have seen they look pretty awkward, especially when trying to navigate the camera.
Some info on this would be greatly appreciated ElPres!

Over at Gamespy they say the angle controls are awkward at first, but your get used to 'em later on. Its not a huge problem, it still looks like a fun game.
Manny M - November 3, 2005 05:44 AM (GMT)
I'm at odds with buying this. Although it's the only 'big' game the PSP has recently, the fact that you need to upgrade your firmware to play it, is VERY off putting.
/backslash - November 3, 2005 01:01 PM (GMT)
I heard there is a way to make your psp THINK it is v2.0 when it's actually 1.0/1.5, but I can't remember where I read it

At first the controls feel awkward on account of the twitchyness of the analogue stick in this game (don't bother trying to walk... it is too sensitive. Just run everywhere :P), while it would have been nice to include a sensitivity control it really doesn't bother you after too long.
Camera control takes a little bit of getting used to but to be honest it isn't all that essential in most situations as the camera puts itself where it needs to be.
The more I play the more I'm enjoying it. I would say it fits about level with GTA III in terms of enjoyment although it isn't as polished as it could be.
Should you get this? If you have no beef with the 2.0 upgrade (and folks, you're gonna have to update eventually since I expect more and more games coming out will force the issue in the future) then go for it. It is a blast!
StueyRowls - November 4, 2005 01:46 AM (GMT)
Cheers for the info Pres, very much appreciated
I think I might pick this up eventually, as I have already upgraded to ver2.0 so that will not be a problem for me. Plus the temptation of GTA on the PSP is too hard to resist :P
[DZ] - November 4, 2005 02:13 AM (GMT)
Yeah, you can play it in public areas in front of antigaming-antiviolence people and go like; "Ooh, thats gotta hurt! I'll kill you fuckers! Where's my hammer!"

Seriously, fuck sony. Fuck them, right in the ear.
ElPresidente - November 6, 2005 05:06 AM (GMT)
Just completed a sneaking mission... forced me to learn how to walk. It actually isn't as bad as I orginally thought (ie: impossible), you just need to be a soft touch on the analogue stick. Still a weaker element of the game.
Gio - November 6, 2005 08:43 AM (GMT)
What's wrong with the 2.0 upgrade?
ElPresidente - November 6, 2005 11:07 AM (GMT)
Manny M - November 16, 2005 11:14 AM (GMT)
Well, it's just as easy to downgrade when you're done.
So, I finally got this today, and my word how i'm impressed. It's GTA 3 with PS2 graphics, on a small but attractive handheld, and it runs so damn well (save for the obligatory bleeding of black.. grrrr).
Thank god i've finally gotten my hands on a decent PSP game since launch, because I was really starting to get a little pissed off that I had initially bought the wrong handheld.
JJJames7 - November 19, 2005 07:48 AM (GMT)
My mum said that if I give my DS to my sister for chrismas, she will buy a PSP for me. I immideatly accepted the deal. I just pray that the White PSP will come bundled with GTA: LSS my December!
EDIT:
http://www.thegtaplace.com/pafiledb.php?action=file&id=1123Custom music in your game
EDITED AGAIN TO AVOID DOUBLE POST: Could someone please explain to me what exactly are the disadvantages to getting the 2.0 upgrade? I need to know as I will be getting a PSP soon. Why are some people worried about it?
Also I understand homebrew is kinda like DIY, why would I want to do anything myself?
