That's cool I was only asking for personal favourites. I got bored last night and was curious as to what everyone liked. :P

The movies I've listed are basically ones I'd gladly sit through it's entirety at pretty much any given time. Movies like The Godfather and Saving Private Ryan, whilst classics in my mind, I find don't have much repeated viewing.

You mean 'The Grudge' ;)
Have you seen 'The Grudge 2'? (jap version of course). I haven't but it's meant to be better than the first
Armour of God....I still haven't seen it yet. Is it that good a movie? I'd like something that's as good as Police Story, whilst containing an alright story besides huge amounts of action scenes
NismoR34 - June 11, 2005 03:19 PM (GMT)
1. Pirates of the Caribbean
2. Xmen 2

Well you can tell that I don't exactly go out of my way to keep up in the movies front and well there are some choices in there that people will probably scold at but meh. That list will do for now.

Yeah, typo :D I have yet to see The Grudge 2. It's at my video store, but I want to wait til I get the dollars so that I can buy it. Check out Dark Water, if you haven't already.
As for Armour of God, I think there's more action scenes than Police Story, and the story's fairly engaging, as well (Indiana Jones type stuff). In the opening first scene(s), Chan performs what I think to be is his best stunt work ever. Amazing. Also, you won't eat Maltesers in the same way ever again, once you see the flick :D If you're looking for a story based Chan, try Crime Story or Drunken Master.
markymark - June 12, 2005 02:11 PM (GMT)
the 'burbs
jay and silent bob strike back
a knights tale
spaceballs
a few good men
lilo and stitch

not a very comprehensive list, but these are some movies that i never seem to get sick of :D

I'm not as big a movie buff as all you guys, but here's a list I whipped up. I've got a feeling I left some good flicks out... :/
In no order:
A Clockwork Orange
Scarface
Taxi Driver
Casino
Jurassic Park
The Matrix
-
-
The LOTR: RotK
Kung Fu Hustle
I'd also like to mention that I love anything Adam Sandler. Wanna see The Longest Yard. Also, anything Jet Li... Unleashed is sooo awesome.

|
For sure, have been for a long time.
Tell me about it. Dances With Wolves winning over GoodFellas? Both were great films. Don't get me wrong. But GoodFellas was a masterpiece that will stand the test of time. How often do you hear someone reference Dances With Wolves in a discussion of the greatest films of all time? GoodFellas was masterful storytelling. But this goes back to the fact that the big, lavish, epic film will always win. The Academy jizzes over that stuff. It's not always right, but it's the way it goes. I loved both movies, I just feel that GoodFellas was the superior film.
In nearly all 'Top 100 movies of all time', Scorsese, who has never won an Oscar as best director, makes the list with three movies, more than any other director. Those were Goodfellas (1990), Raging Bull (1980) and Taxi Driver (1976). Not winning best director for Raging Bull in 1980 is the crime of the century. In my opinion of course.
Also De Niro, who starred in Raging Bull and Taxi Driver, almost always has five of his films make the list, more than any other actor. I'd give my left arm to see them join forces again for a ninth film. *fingers crossed*
~DC - June 16, 2005 08:44 AM (GMT)
I love Goodfellas, although I still rate The Godfather: Part II as the slightly better mafia/ganster film. ;)
To make matters worse with regards to Raging Bull, Rocky picked up three Oscars six years beforehand. :( As far as Taxi Driver goes, I personally regard this as Scorsese best movie to date and like many other films before it, people only started to consider its brilliance years afterwards, now to the extent has gain a massive cult following.
I agree with him missing out in the last few years though. Gangs of New York was far from a masterpiece and certainly didn't deserve to win as didn't The Avaitor, which was epic but Million Dollar Baby was the superior contender.
Mykle - June 16, 2005 09:05 AM (GMT)
Raging Bull lost because it was in black and white, and wasnt filled with big patriotic speeches and a big win at the end.
HamburgerTrain - June 20, 2005 06:31 AM (GMT)
Dr. Strangelove (1964) - The best movie ever made.
- The Shining
- The Matrix (Minus the 2nd and 3rd film, naturally)
- Full Metal Jacket
- Terminator 2
- Fargo
- Beavis & Butthead Do America
- American Psycho
- Schindler's List
- Predator
- Seven
Bleh, there's too many to list.
jawbreaker982 - June 20, 2005 06:49 AM (GMT)
Mulholland Drive.
Suspiria.
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.
Clerks.
Reservoir Dogs.
A Very Long Engagement.
Bad Santa.
House of Flying Daggers.
Blue Velvet.
Garden State.
Donnie Darko and Day of the Dead deserve to be there somewhere as well. Broke my heart to leave them (and Hitchcock!) without representation.

Beast - June 22, 2005 01:16 AM (GMT)
Yeah "A Very Long Engagement" is awesome. I love all of Jean-Pierre Jeunet movies. I'd say he's my favourite director.
Actually I've only seen his last 4 movies (Long Engagement, Amelie Alien Resurection, The City of Lost Children and Delicatessen). Alien Resurection is the ugly duckling but I still think he did a good job on it.
~DC - June 22, 2005 04:16 AM (GMT)
Yeah I've also been meaning to check out A Very Long Engagement for quite some time now...
Iroquois - June 28, 2005 03:24 AM (GMT)
