Title: Mid Year Sales
Description: Spotted a bargain?
paulgusta - May 31, 2005 04:48 AM (GMT)
The June sales are nearly upon us and retailers have, quote, "gone mad". Not so mad that they're in corner reciting the old Testament, but you know what I mean.
electronics buttock...err, boutique (or EB Games as they're calling themselves) are having a huge sale, starting some time later this week. My sources say 90% of stock will be discounted anywhere from 10% right up to a diabolical 60%. Remember kids, if you buy something and find that it's been discounted 7 days later, get yr receipt, take the game and receipt back and demand (in a nice way) for the sale discount to be applied to yr item.
Myer are also having a sale, with 50% of a lot of stuff, and Juiced is on special for $70or maybe $80 (as an aside, not that the world needs another street racing game... by the way anyone here played Namco's SRS? I thought the Codemasters were doing it, judging by the amount of emails they send me).
That's my consumer report. Got anything? Post it below
edit: ***Can of worms***
I may just regret this, but for the sake of simplicity, I'll come back here every couple of days and summarise what you lot have seen where the sale is and what is on sale and how much (% or $ off). 'Aight?
3rd June
EB Games - a whole heap of crap, 10 - 60% off
Myer - "a huge range of PS2, Xbox, PC & GBA games"*, up to 50% off, Juiced on special for $79 (intro. offer), 20% off all full priced PS2, Xbox, PC & GBA games, 15% off all DS games, PS2, Xbox & GBA accessories, $150 off Logitech wireless bundle (Xbox)*as quoted in catalogue from the SMH, 30th May 05
JB Hifi- Animal Crossing, $47
ezyDVD - specifics unknown; some Simpson's series DVDs going cheap

But yeah, I'll have to drop in(to EB, not Ken Bruce! :P) and see if they have anything worth picking up. :)

Do you think I'll be able to pick up a Good GCN (or DS) game for about $20 at this EB sale?
BrotherEstapol - May 31, 2005 12:38 PM (GMT)
GCN? Yes.
DS? Good luck with that.
Spag - May 31, 2005 01:11 PM (GMT)

I concur with Estapol. GCN games are dirt cheap at EB, and oh my lord they give nothing for them in a trade in. Rogue Squadron? How's about I give you a dollar. One. 1. 2 divided by itself.
DS games, I'm not so sure about, but don't expect anything for $20.
Hello - May 31, 2005 09:38 PM (GMT)
Yeah, GCN games were going cheap well before the mid-year sales. Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory = $29.99 :o

Actually, we have 50% off selected PC games, and 20% off full priced PS2/Xbox games. I think Juiced will be $79 as an introductory offer.

Well shut my mouth. See my edited post at the start of this thread. You're in QLD right? Maybe Myer up there is different to NSW (possibly), or maybe your store in particular has that offer on (unlikely and confusingif so), or maybe this catalogue is different to the actual offer Myer decided to put on (more likely than the previous two options).
Lordage - June 2, 2005 03:53 AM (GMT)
I always check out EB Specials... the problem is I end up spending money when I shouldn't. Perhaps I can get a Mic for cheap, I'm in desperate need for one for Source.

Yep, Qld for me. I would've thought Myer's specials would be nation wide, but I guess not.
/backslash - June 2, 2005 12:54 PM (GMT)
Saw Simpsons Season 5 in the Big W catalogue for only $27.82.
The CHEAPEST I think anyone's going to find it at.
Apparently EzyDVD are having a massive DVD clearance, I haven't been there yet but I had a staff member going through my checkout today with a t-shirt saying 'Massive DVD clearance'. I failed to ask if there was any anime half price :(

Oh and are you sure the EB sale is nationwide? My EB's seem to be in normal trading mode. :/

Same here, though both the EBs I went to yesterday had a shitload of cardboard boxes stacked up in the corner, so I think the sale is gonna start soon. ;)
And I'm pretty sure that all the Coles-Myer stores sales are the same nation-wide.

Hmm, odd that EB would stagger its sales by state. NSW is going full blast and it's pretty mad. Did a 14 hour day at work sorting all the shit out. If anyone wants Half Life 2 or World Of Warcraft, now's the time to get both as the former is 50% off and the latter is at least 20% off.
BrotherEstapol - June 3, 2005 02:07 PM (GMT)
Well I walked past my EB today and they had the tables setup with all the stock on them and a shitload of "SALE!" signs were being put up.
As for HL2, I'm sure Civ will be estatic about it's $45 price tag. :P (which is also how much we had it for at work last week. )

Shame my local Big W had sold out though :(
I could of gotten it for the same price at work but we haven't even got the stock yet. I've got a raincheck for it though.

Which one is your EB Civ? I was at the one in the Myer Centre last night and all they had was 10% off stickers on most games that were still a hundred anyway.
I don't call that a sale :P
When does EB's actually start?

I think it usually starts around mid-june, or at least a bit closer to the end of the financial year.
Anyway, while I was at work last night ie: Big W I had a quick glace at the home entertainment sale we are having and there where a few decent bargains including:
Full Spectrum Warrior (Xbox) $30
Guilty Gear X Reload (Xbox and PS2) $50
R-Type Final (PS2) $50
Final Fantasy Tactics Advance (GBA) $50
Sword of Mana (GBA) $20
That's all I can think of for the moment, or at least the only decent stuff on sale. I think you might find different titles from store to store.
KickyFunkFresh - June 4, 2005 10:21 AM (GMT)
Got Beyond Good and Evil on PC for $15 from EB. Hooray!

At least I didn't pay RRP and got it for $65. It was worth it though.

Well the one at work is Indooroopilly, and my local one is Redbank EB. The sale started today by the looks of it and almost bought Chronicles of Riddick DC for $30 for my PC, but held out in the end. I also wanted Far Cry, but they said they had 1 copy left and that I had to find it under a pile of The Sims shit. <_< Didn't bother.

Your local is RB, yet you work at Indro? Aren't they like on the opposite sides of Brisbane? My local is Sunnybank, i think it's a small one (the shopping centre is, that's for sure :P). Garden City's is much better.

Arrr no in fact they're on the same train line. But yeah redbank poor fellow.
evO - June 4, 2005 10:39 PM (GMT)
Beenleigh and Ferny Grove are on the same line, yet they are no where near each other. Just because RB and Indro are on the same line, that doesn't mean they are near each other, but they ARE a lot closer to each other than i though.

Well kinda you see they're two different lines. Fenry Grove to Central is the Fenry Grove line, Central to Beenliegh is the Beenliegh line.
But I digress not close to one another by any means but not on opposite sides.

Oh by the way that last stop on the first "Translink" line coming off of Ipswich is where I grew up and where my parents still live.

Fair enough, i just had the wrong mental image :P. I stand corrected.

The same way you like Garden City better, I like Idro better, hence I work there and shop at that EB. ;) Every time I go to RB I feel.... odd. It's so different to Indro.
Anyway, I'm going to the RB EB tomorrow to pick up Riddick as I changed my mind after reading a review of it.

I've only been to RB Plaza once, and i didn't really like it. I've never been to Indro, but i might have to check it out.

I picked up the PS2 Network Adapter for $15 at my EB yesterday. Also a mate of mine got Half Life 2 for $30. There are some great bargains there at the moment.

$30 for Half Life 2? I don't know how he did that, considering it's menat to be $45.
Anyway, a source told me that there will be 60% off at some point. Monstrous. Prices can change; they can (and do) go up and down. Constantine, on PS2, was $99 when released, then it dipped to $69, then went back up to $99. I shit you not.
If you're thinking about holding out for the 60% discount, acknowledge that other prices may go up. I don't know what (if anything) or when (if it does). The choice is yours.
Lordage - June 6, 2005 06:12 AM (GMT)
I went in today looking to for a cheap headset (I need a mic for CS), only to discover that pretty much everything, except headsets, was discounted.
What's more, it that they were around the $55 mark... Not happy. :(
BrotherEstapol - June 6, 2005 01:09 PM (GMT)
Should have got one when they had the two for $50 deal..I got me a REALLY good Logitech pair. :D
It wouldn't hurt to ask the clerk to check the price either, as sometimes they don't put the new tag price on things.
Ninja Kirby - June 7, 2005 08:49 AM (GMT)
Im sure its been posted, but i picked up Half-Life 2 for $45 today at the Adelaide EB.
They had a minimum 10% off everything, to a 60% off max for the older games.
The only other noteable was WoW at 20% off.
DJ-Civic - June 7, 2005 01:24 PM (GMT)
I grabbed The Chronicles of Riddick DC for $29 at their sale, and almost got Devil May Cry 3, but held out as Battlefield 2 is coming at the end of the month. ;)

It wasn't at my EB :( Otherwise I probably would have picked it up.
