Title: Resident Evil 0 Thread

Dakwota - May 9, 2005 11:43 AM (GMT)
Hey I could'nt see a Zero thread so I thoght I'd create one since I'm interested in this title.

My cousin who is a fanatic about Resident Evil (she lives in Germany) said to me over MSN that I should look into the series.

She said to start with this Title so I was wondering what you guys think?

Is it to scarey for a 13 Year old? (nearly 14)

thanx.

PS - This could be the general RE thread if desired...

i would probably go for remake before re0 seeing how it was made as prequel. you'll probably get more out of it going through it knowing what happens in re1. plus the dual character control thing in re0 is a step up in difficulty from the original. having said that, i wasn't actually the hugest fan of re0. it looked amazing and the atmosphere was great, but remake was just a better all round experience.

as for bring too scary for a 14 year old i would probably say yeah, it is, but i guess it depends on how sensitive you are to horror and stuff.

nice idea about the general re thread... i second it :D

NAh. start with any RE. I'd reccomend starting with RE2 actually. There's really not much connection between each game, as in a continuous story anyway. They are pretty self contained episodes. Adn I really didn't find that much things in REzero that made me think that it was a good idea to have played the other 4 RE's first. In that regard you are safe to play ANY of them. The story is ridiculous and horrendously convoluted anyway. It's all about the pacing and the intensity of the game.

However do acquire Zero, REmake and RE4. Then if you are hungry for more get Code Veronica X, RE2 and RE3.

Anyway, REzero was fun. The two character dynamic is interesting albeit a little tacked on. I found zero to be the easiest RE followed by RE2. Ultimately REzero is the peak of the original RE design. In that regard that old style has plateud. RE4 takes it to new territory. Not really "survival horror" anymore. Rather it's Action Horror now. Great series though (not counting the dodgy light gun RE and the two Outbreak spin offs).

Cool,

I get scared at jump scenes (you know sudden jumps).

But I think it'll be ok.

Why Resident Evil over 0?
Should'nt I go from start to finish? (EG - 0 - 4)

Thanks for the responses.

Well RE0 was made after RE1/REMake, so as a prequel things show up in RE0 that make more sense if you've already played RE1

It's kind of like if you watched Star Wars Eps 4,5 and 6 first then Eps 1,2 and 3 will make a whole lot more sense.

Since you put it that way....

I might get LE Resident Evil 4 + Resident Evil 1.

Cause Mum owes me big time so she'll pay for no.4 (since I want LE) and I'll pay for 1 (since its like $25)!!!

All good!

EDIT - I won't play 4 until I've finished most of the others but I want the LE (yeah I love all the LE's (Halo 2)) so yeah...

BrotherEstapol - May 10, 2005 03:12 PM (GMT)
Well you can get away with playing 4 and not playing Zero, but it would be wise to play through the other 4(1, 2, 3 and Code Veronica) before number 4.

Though I had only completed number 1 when I started Number 4. :P

Dakwota - May 10, 2005 09:11 PM (GMT)
^ Yeah I don't know if I'm getting 4 now since I'm buying Forza.

So It might be Resident evil (preowned for like $20-$25) and Resident evil zero for $49.95 (It's meant to be rare so I don't mind getting it since a know a shop which has it in stock!)

Also where is the scariness factor come from?
I hate sudden jumps (like things quickly smashing walls etc)???

Plz help me out on that last question.

PS- anyone know where to get RE 2+3??? I know DVDCrave has Code Veroncia X in stock but not the other???

PPS - Sorry for the massive letter!

The RE series isn't really about sudden scares, as it's more an atmosphere thing. In RE1 you're dumped in an abandoned(?) mansion, and you have no idea what's in the next room, so that's a bit scary I suppose, but there's few moments when you'll jump out of your seat.

Remember: You can't play RE during the day, it has to be at night for the full effect :D

borgster101 - May 11, 2005 12:21 AM (GMT)
RE0 contains spoilers if you havent played RE1, as there is a twist in the end of the original game that really leads up to every other game, (it's not that important) but I would say play RE1 first if you can :) .

Be warned though, once you play RE4 you probably wont back to the old series.

Dakwota - May 11, 2005 06:13 AM (GMT)
Ok as I said I'm getting 1 + 0 and maybe 4 (just for LE) but I'd rather play through the whole series before 4.

So does anyone know where to get 2 + 3?

BrotherEstapol - May 11, 2005 08:04 AM (GMT)
I think DVDCrave.com.au has the GCN ports of the other 3.

markymark - May 11, 2005 08:59 AM (GMT)
i think you've missed the boat getting the gc ports of 2 and 3 retail. they re-released them when re:apocolypse came out at the cinema but they seem to have disappeared again. your best bet is scouring second hand shops which is never favourable, but probably necessary if you really want the games.

good luck :D

StompBrother - May 11, 2005 11:48 AM (GMT)
Yup RE2 and RE3 are hard to find now. As everyone said above, scour pre-owned goods and online stores. Also don't forget Code Veronica X. That too is hard to find.

Anyway I feel like it so I will rank the RE games...

1. Resident Evil (Remake)
(tie with)
1. Resident Evil 4
2. Resident Evil: Code Veronica X
3. Resident Evil 0
4. Resident Evil 2
5. Resident Evil 3: Nemesis

Yes it's a draw between REmake and RE4 for me. I find that RE4 has too much action and not enough puzzles tow arrant a full on no.1 spot. As for REmake... it still has the best pacing of all the RE games, great difficulty level and the perfect balance of action & puzzles. It's only the actual action that lets it down int he wake of RE4. So it has to share the top spot.

CVX also had great pacing and balance of action & puzzle. Also surprisingly long too. Also the first in the series to go into full 3D. And what about that knife eh? BEST weapon in the game!

REzero had a rather interesting twist by having a second character follow you about, but ultimately wasn't all that. Although this does do what made RE great really well and the variety of locales is fantastic. Although I found it to be the easiest of the lot.

RE2 is fun. Very action packed with just the right amount of quiet moments to give breaks in the action. Quite easy but I'd reccomend this one for RE newbies so they can be eased into the scheme of the RE universe.

RE3 is my least favorite. I really disliked this one. The Nemesis is annoying and became a chore having to fight it every now and then. Fine if they want to shake up the pacing of the game, but having to battle the Nemesis is repetetive, annoying and boring each time. I was glad I finished this as I found only minor enjoyment out of it.

I never played the original RE1 on the PS1 or the Dead Aim games (for good reason) and Outbreak 1&2 doesn't look to be all that. The GBC Gaiden is... different.

I only ever hired RE0 and got maybe an hour past the train section. It seemed pretty good but it wasn't as enjoyable as REmake and RE4.

Well when you experience your first "Crimson Head Zombie Bursting Through Nearby Door" you will no doubt shit yourself. I know I did. It's not exactly a common thing though, you could go the whole game without it happening. A lot of it is to do with the fear of the unknown, the atmosphere.
