Title: BB '05
Description: What crap's in store this year?

Manny M - May 9, 2005 01:56 AM (GMT)
Well, did anyone catch the Big Brother "launch" last night?

I myself, must admit that the whole Big Brother "fad" was lost on me a couple of years back, what with Gretel Killeen sporting the same over-exaggerated expression, the same outrageous outfits, the same stupidity spouting from her mouth, year after year. Not to mention the same stream of housemates, each fitting a pre-defined genre... a template seemingly created in the first Big Brother, and used ever since. There's only one "Ben and Blair" group I can take! Yes, the house has gotten funkier, more unique, but the show as a whole, has stayed quite the same. In saying that though, after watching the launch, year after year (a family tradition it seems), i'm always left with the feeling that I should be there, providing my own brand of stupidity, onto the awaiting Australian public. Year after year, when audition time comes around, I disregard it, but year after year, as the show starts again, i'm left with a feeling of dissapointment at not having given it a shot... i'm sure that trend will continue as long as this thing continues to stick it's head out of the network TV graveyard.

And so, it began once again last night, Gretel once again proving to be the same obnoxious person she is every year, this time sporting a new wig (blonde hair!! What was she thinking?), and a new outfit (suited more for a Kings Cross dominatrix, than a mother of two, and "dignified" TV presenter). And then, the housemates rolled in... the meat and potatoes of any reality TV show (thanks to the editing team, no doubt). The usual gang of post teen hornbags, ready to show what their made of, to the Aussie public. Generally, according to the BB template of years before, we would have our mature woman, overcome with emotion over missing the kids, or not having achieved anything at their age... the hot babe, destined to prove to everyone that she's more than just a pretty face, but ultimately failing... the Aussie jock, either straight off a farm or footy field, proving to the nation that the "good old aussie battler" is still here.... the good looking metro male, a necessary contrast to the jock, using the "opportunity" to show the film industry what "they've got"... the gay/bi guy/girl, out to spread their message of equality, and trampling anyone else who says otherwise... the little miss goody two shoes, full of sugar, spice, and a truckload of naiveness.... the freak, choc full of everything everyone doesn't want... and the comedian, the average looking funny boy, proving that personality is the greater virtue. With that being said, this year round, the same old type of people genreally fit the bill, but in my opinion, it looks to be alot fiestier. We do have our usual gay/bi person, comedian/freak, the mature woman, the metro male, the jock (3 too many), and thankfully, the hot chick... or should I say chicks. If BB '05 is going to be giving us anything this year, it's lots of beautiful women, doing nothing but sunbathing, welling in their vanity, and... wait for it, a slew of catyness, and bitching... recipe for fun I think.

All in all, it's going to be a bunch of the same old though. Can't really say whether i'm actually going to keep an eye on what's happening this year, but i'll definately try to tune in to uncut on thursday's... well, until all the hotties get voted off ;)

I've learnt that Big Brother is a lot like The OC. It's something everyone (mainly guys) say they don't watch, but seem to be very up-to-date on the shows gossip.

I didn't watch last night's premiere but The Eye in the Herald Sun said the imposter was identical twins going under the name of Logan, switching each day.

Seems intriguing, and if I have nothing better to do at 7pm, I'll watch, but casting an eye over the TV Guide it seems like BB saturation.

One things for sure, the finale will be a ratings killer, it always is...

Spag - May 9, 2005 06:42 AM (GMT)
I hope they release a lion into the house during the night, whilst the housemates are sound asleep. Now that would be entertaining.

This years housemates are cliched, yet I can see some fireworks both in the form of romance, and fighting, this time around. I'll watch is here and there, but I have far more important things to do. Well, I like to think I do...

_MetalliX_ - May 9, 2005 07:03 AM (GMT)
Is it just me or did Gretel look like something out of Star Wars?

And the skinny chick with the fat head, Christie, went to my school. :P

I'll probably stick to watching Fraiser at 7pm over this.

Eyce - May 9, 2005 08:20 AM (GMT)
I'm watching the live Internet Feed Now.

If only we got that. We get A Current Affair where I live, because we get local news at 6. We don't even get to see Frasier :(

Same here, sucks don't it. :(

Now that Big Brother is on instead of the Simpsons, that leaves; A Current Affair, Home and Away, Toyota World Sport and the ABC news.

Not much into sports, ACA is bullshit, as is Home and Away, so it looks like ABC News just got itself a new viewer. :/

DJ-Civic - May 9, 2005 02:30 PM (GMT)
If you watch this, you need to be shot! :P
I can't believe people actually watch this garbage. :pole:

HamburgerTrain - May 10, 2005 08:23 AM (GMT)
I can't stand TV at the momemt, it seems to get worse every year.

borgster101 - May 11, 2005 05:32 AM (GMT)
I think Fraiser will getting the kick when the new Sale of Century show comes in.

Can't really be arsed with BB. Thank goodness for Foxtel :)

[m]averick - May 11, 2005 07:17 AM (GMT)
I watched it last night, and I'd forgotten just how damn addictive it is.

Maybe this show continues to air due to human qualities such as laziness and the ability to watch anything (hell, a website recently set up a paint watching site and people could vote on their favourite paint they liked to see dry, so we will watch anything :P )

I seriously, could not tear myself away from the screen to go to squash. I was engrossed at the lame, cheesiness of it all, as Nelson sooked about Kate ruining his porridge and then how roughly 5 housemates had it in for Tim because he ate the tomatoes.

This is surely TV at it's lowest point, yet there is that undefinable aura that surrounds the show and makes it so compelling. Perhaps it's why so many people watch soaps, due to it's slow paced nature viewers can miss the occassional show and still be up-to-date.

People, also don't wanna come home and be bombarded with the days issues, some people wish to relax and turn their brains off and BB caters to that, although it is debatable how healthy it is for humans as a societable entity.

JJJames7 - May 11, 2005 09:31 AM (GMT)
There's a bi girl, and a curious girl. And about three other hot girls.

BB 05 is gonna rock!

No idea, but I saw it in a Readers Digest recently.

By the way, I know you are being facetious, but your post only serves to highlight my post further.

Eyce - May 11, 2005 10:40 AM (GMT)
For all people confused, my post was serious.

Lynx - May 11, 2005 11:07 AM (GMT)
I'm not going to be all high and mighty and deny the pulling-power of this show...

I like watching it. It's interesting, it's titillating, and I envy the people in there.

Although, if I ever got in there, I'd tell the bloke who plays 'Big Brother' to go fuck himself. I wouldn't care if I got forced out, I'd just stick it to his authority.

I wish I still got channel WIN (like I did in my old home town). Mainly because on weekdays they don't show Big Brother until 11.30pm  Yes, it's the same show that everyone else sees at 7pm, but just 4.5 hours later :D

My brother's watching it though so it's annoying when I go over to his place for dinner now. The live midnight feeds are complete crap too, sometimes it'll show the housemates doing nothing, literally nothing! I guess that's what they mean by "Uncut". I only see bits and pieces when I'm either swapping discs on my DVD player or flicking through channels in search for entertainment. I just wish it didn't cover up The Simpsons because I've only seen a few episodes from season 8 and above.

WIN are Channel 9, and Channel 10 own Big Brother.

How does what work?

WIN is a combination of both 9&10, that's all (because we got old repeats of The Simpsons at 6, as well as other various Ten programs and Nine mixed up). But the problem is, instead of getting newish episodes of The Simpsons, we just get A Current Affair

Also we got the Ten news at 5

ultracrazy1 - May 11, 2005 11:37 PM (GMT)
In between BB last year and this year, I got cable internet, so I have checked out the live feed from time to time. I think it removes everything thats crap about the show: gretel, ads, guess the word games, editing out nudity and offensive conversations, and topics that the tv network won't allow on tv.

_MetalliX_ - May 12, 2005 01:31 AM (GMT)
I tried the live feed, but it doesn't work too well.

NismoR34 - May 12, 2005 05:53 AM (GMT)
I have noticed that they are beeping out too much normal conversation this year, even on up-late when it is supposed to be live-streaming. If it is indeed live as they say, well then they (Ten) are being to cautious with what is being said and frankly it destroys the whole conversation.

Still, we have seen Michelle, Christie, Gianna and even Kate all looking as gorgeous as ever, some even nude. Rocking.

Yeah, same. I've tried accessing the live feed and it doesn't work for me. I have Windows Media Player 10 and I've signed up, but all I get is the BB logo playing for a while, but no live feed.

And when I go to play the editted videos WMP 10 can't play it.

What's up with that?

So you enjoy looking at strangers penis's?

Just cause he doesn't want to look at a 30mins of wang doesn't make him a homophobic.

I have a friend who is gay, and I am not a homophobe. I couldn't care less for someones sexual preference.

I just don't want to watch a whole heap of guys shower naked, I have better things to do with my time.

You do realise they put females in there too?

Anyways, I can't wait for uncut, just to see Christie naked. It's going to be so weird seeing as how she went to my school and all. I can just imagine our principal now, "Christie, who graduated from our school two years ago is making something of her life, exposing her naked body on television for the whole of Australia to see, I hope you all have successes like hers..."

The second they finished the challenge I booted up the feed, got about a solid minute of nekkidness before it cut out :(

Why bother? Does it make it better cause it's not porn? Because you know it pretty much is if your after naked ladies.

BrotherEstapol - May 13, 2005 03:33 PM (GMT)
Well it is free.

quartz_donkey - May 13, 2005 10:57 PM (GMT)

Lynx - May 14, 2005 07:01 AM (GMT)
I haven't seen any nudity yet, but I'm interested to see Christie naked, seeing as though she's hot and young and stuff.

Havent watched much, but it seems pretty good so far. Better than last year.

_MetalliX_ - May 14, 2005 08:35 AM (GMT)
I just wanna see her naked cos she went to my school. Seeing a chick from my school naked takes a lot of hard work, time, devotion, money and patience... shit, this is free!

Gnomey_g - May 15, 2005 01:28 PM (GMT)
I tuned into uplate to see Geneva topless in the sauna for quite some time, and got to see Michelle topless in the bathroom, and might I say she has a fine rack going on. It was gg.

[DZ] - May 15, 2005 11:05 PM (GMT)
The only reality I'm into is Survivor. Period. BB sux arse, imho. :/
