Title: The gig thread - first post updates
Description: The thread that takes up gigs, ho ho

JJJames7 - April 24, 2005 10:33 AM (GMT)
I get most of my information from either Bombshellzine or from a few contacts I have in Melbourne, and more often than not the people I speak to tend to be correct. So here are the latest things I have heard.

Red = Confirmed
Blue = Rumor

Static-X
Alkaline Trio
Coheed and Cambria
Funeral for a Friend
Comeback Kid
Opeth
Anberlin
The Haunted
Franz Ferdinand
The White Stripes
The Mars Volta
AFI (after their new album is done)
Yellowcard

Cradle of Filth
Death Cab for Cutie
Taking Back Sunday
Nickelback

Gnomey_g - April 24, 2005 11:41 AM (GMT)
The tickets for the Perth Atreyu gig sold out far sooner than I had anticipated, so it looks like I won't be going :( To be honest, I didn't think they'd sell out at all, Perth must be home to more emo/hardcore fans then I'd realised.

~DC - April 24, 2005 12:17 PM (GMT)
I'm marking out big-time for when Queen's of the Stone Age post their Aussie tour dates. I missed them last year and have been regretting it ever since. Apparently they should be touring around late July...

Towards the end of the year Nine Inch Nails and Foo Fighters should also be touring. Will have to see how their new albums pan out before I decided whether or not I want to go.

Gnome, why didn't you just get your tickets off the Net? That saves time and any fuss about whether or not you'll be too late to get them.

Every Atreyu gig has sold out now, I think. Should be a top God damn show at the Gaelic in Sydney, not to rub it in or anything.

;)

The Silverstein show whould be okay as well. I'm going to head along though I must admit that I haven't heard a great deal of their stuff. Enough to know that they seem like a watered down Atreyu.

The thought never actually occurred to me, I might have to do that next time a big international band comes over.

JJJames7 - June 12, 2005 07:34 AM (GMT)
The Taste Of Chaos tour, which includes awesome bands The Used, Killswitch Engage, Story Of The Year, Funeral For A Friend and Rise Against is hitting Australia around October. I have to get some Killswitch (yeah, I haven't heard thier music to my knowledge), and music from The Used and more from Funeral For A Friend. Should be awesome.

Though I have heard not many standing places are left for alot of the shows, and who the hell wants to sit for these bands?

JJJames7 - August 5, 2005 06:34 AM (GMT)
Any people from Adelaide on this forum should know where the Goverment Hotel Hindmarsh, better known as the gov is. Anyway, last night three unknown bands played there.

Norfadisk (or something like that :P) and Simple People played from around 11:30 onwards, however, the band that got the whole bar packed was The Milton Experience. My good mate goes to school with these guys, and they rocked. The whole bar was full of high school psuedo-goths as Milton did they're stuff.

All of the band members are fifteen and have made their own songs. Funky bass lines, a fucking awesome drummer and two screaming guitarists make up the band.

I'll be posting when these guys have theyre next gig. Last night was their second.

Hmmm, who's this "Spoon" you speak of DC?

[m]averick - August 6, 2005 09:06 AM (GMT)
Eskimo Joe came to Albury on Thursday night, but due to negligence and it being a school night, I didn't go.

I am so dumb. Wish I went. Bet Sodens was packed that night too :(

They're basically a Texan indie rock/pop band formed that have released five albums since they formed in 1992. They toured over here back in 2003 and were credited with providing tight and precise standout performances. You can get more info, including mp3s from their official site: www.spoontheband.com

Well worth checking out, especially considering they are playing at the smaller venues around the country for only around $35 a pop.

What other bands could you group them with?

~DC - August 7, 2005 12:23 AM (GMT)
I dunno really, I'm not all that into the Indie genre in general, but some of the songs kinda remind me of The Beatles and Rolling Stones.

Gnomey_g - August 7, 2005 01:45 PM (GMT)
Dismember are touring Australia in October, as are Children of Bodom :D

~DC - August 17, 2005 10:56 PM (GMT)
So I went to the Nine Inch Nails concert last night in Melbourne and quite frankly it kicked arse. The setlist featured material from the new album With Teeth, which sounded better live, and all the way back to Pretty Hate Machine.

While the setlist could have been a tad better, some of the weaker tracks off the new album were included, the raw energy and excitement was absolutely incredible. Definitely one of the best coincerts I've ever been too.

Gnomey_g - August 18, 2005 07:37 AM (GMT)
Arch Enemy, Nile and Mayhem have all announced they they'll be making their way to Australia within the next few months!

Arch Enemy did actually announce it did they? Last I heard it was just rumours but if not then...SHIT YES! About time they came to Australia...

A Canberra date would be nice too as I'd love to see them live myself. Guess it will never happen while I'm in this dump but then again, Garbage are coming to Canberra next month.

TOUR DATES *:
Wed 21 Sep - Royal Theatre, Canberra
Fri 23 Sep - Hordern Pavilion, Sydney
Sat 24 Sep - Brisbane Convention Centre

Thanks to Ticketek for the information.
*Ticketek only are selling tickets for these locations.

It is good to finally see a decent band hitting our city for once, I can't wait.

Yeah, if we aren't Foos over here Canberra certainly ain't. :P It sucks though because Australia is generally known as a major source for their album sales, they shipped something like 110,000 copies of In Your Honour in the first week alone, yet they decide to do multiple shows at Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, and even Perth but won't do one for Adelaide.

I was tempted to get tickets to Garbage, if anything because of the lack of bands now touring Adelaide, but alas the tickets were a tad too pricey. :(

[m]averick - August 20, 2005 01:10 AM (GMT)
Prices for the Foos? I wouldn't know where to check. And again, because I wouldn't know where to check, does anyone know about BDO '06? And possible lineups?

~DC - August 20, 2005 01:52 AM (GMT)
General Admission for Foos is $84.00. Check the link to Ticketek that Nismo posted a couple of posts above.

No idea for possible line-ups to the BDO but hopefully it has some decent headline bands this year instead of System of a Down, Beastie Boys, and Slipknot which were a few of the "main draws" last year...

[m]averick - August 21, 2005 02:25 AM (GMT)
Haha. 84 bucks. No chance. I'll wait for BDO. I actually wish I went to this years BDO. System would've been kickarse.

Hello - August 21, 2005 08:10 AM (GMT)
I still think gigs at an arena should be cheaper than pub shows. I mean, you get a shittier, less intimate show but at double the cost. Bring back the Foos of old.

[m]averick - August 21, 2005 09:17 AM (GMT)
In any case, I think the Foos will play at BDO. Seems pointless paying 84 bucks to see one show, when you can pay $108 for a whole day of music.

And if I'm wrong, I'm not that phased.

~DC - August 21, 2005 09:52 AM (GMT)
I can't see Foos coming back in a couple of months after a comprehensive Australian tour just for the BDO.

[m]averick - August 22, 2005 04:46 AM (GMT)
I'm not a huge Foo Fighter fan so I'm not too phased. But the day I pay 84 bucks for a concert is the day that I start paying 84 bucks for a concert.

I.E. A VERY BAD DAY.

NismoR34 - August 22, 2005 04:14 PM (GMT)
Out of the 3 bands you mentioned DC, System of a Down would have been the best to see. Beastie Boys and Slipknot suck live. *
I get my tickets to the Garbage concert in a fortnight's time hopefully. :D

*Slipknot just plain suck actually.

Fucking fantastic news, especially considering how cheap the gigs are.

Dakwota - August 29, 2005 11:02 AM (GMT)
Well I should be going to the 2005 Taste of Chaos tour!!!

October 26th at Rod Laver Arena (there are interstate gigs).

Featuring...

The Used (never really heard their stuff), Kill Switch Engage (never really heard their stuff), Funeral for a Friend (never really heard their stuff), Rise Against (never really heard their stuff).

And best of all... *drum roll*

STORY OF THE YEAR!!!

I have Story of the Years CD and 'Live in Lou/Bassassins' CD/DVD combo!!!

They are soo good on stage! They throw, i repeat THROW their guitars to the guitar techs and do backflips off the amps! They also do sycronised guitar body spins!!!

Tickets are $64.

EDIT - Story of the Year are featured in Need for Speed Underground 1. Playing the song 'And the hero will drown'

NismoR34 - August 30, 2005 06:58 AM (GMT)
I'd go to that just to see Killswitch Engage... Might have to use it as a birthday present.

BrotherEstapol - September 4, 2005 12:25 PM (GMT)
Well I went to the Regurgitator gig at the Australian National University Bar on Friday night, it was an AWESOME gig! :D

The two support bands were Snowman from Perth(who have quite possibly the best performing front-man I've ever witnessed), and The Mint Chicks from New Zealand.(which was bullshit cause the band was entirely male! :P)

I'll certainly be getting Snowmans LP, as they played some awesome songs that I'd like to hear again. :D
Don't be surprised if they get big in the Aussie music scene soon. ;)

Wasn't too taken by The Mint Chicks though, so we pretty much just socialised while they were playing.

As for the Gurge, well they were excelent! I probably knew about 3/4's of the songs they played cause I only have Unit, Art, Mishmash and their Pillowhead EP, but I enjoyed all the songs anyways. :D
It was good to see that the band saw the irony of playing !*The Song Formerly Known As at a loud, crowded smokey bar with lots of bright lights everywhere. :P (you tell by the expressions on their faces during the song ;) )(if you don't get what I mean, read the lyrics here)
Highlight was probably when they played the last cord/note of Modern Life, over and over, but the gap between it got bigger and bigger each time they did it...it got so big that the drummer would do the note, then run off stage, then back again, and do the note again!
Not sure if that made sence, but I guess you had to be there. :)

I'm really glad I went to the gig, as I'm pretty sure this their last tour for quite some time.(same goes for another album)

Oh, and the low-light of the thing was(before any of the bands had started playing) when I was trying on a t-shirt from the merch bench, and soon found-out that it was a tad tight, and subsequently made a dick of myself trying to take it off!

Whoa, I remember a song called 'And the hero will drown'! Cool to know it was by SOTY, because I think I liked that song when I was into NFSU.

Anyway, I have a ticket to the Taste Of Chaos in Adelaide. Will be amazing.

Also, for DC and whoever else lives in Adelaide, THE MILTON EXPERIENCE is having another gig. If you don;t know who they are (which you don't), read my post on page one.

It's on September 15, 8:30pm at the Govener Hindmarsh Hotel on Port Rush Road (near the coke factory).

EDIT: For Dakwota and whoever else doesn't know:

The Used- Goth Punk screamers. You would have seen chicks in town wearing the used jumpers. Check out 'I'm A Fake'
Killswitch Engage- Metal band with hardcore roots. Pretty heavy. Best album is 'An End Of Heartache'
Funeral For A Friend- Emo/Screamo/Metal. All the rage is a good track.
Rise Against- Screaming, raspy hardcore punkers. Give it all is featured on NFSu2

Gnomey_g - September 10, 2005 05:44 AM (GMT)
My mate gave me a 2 month early birthday present yesterday, a ticket to go see Electric Six with him on what I believe is their first Australian tour! Seeing such classics as Gay Bar, Naked Pictures (Of Your Mother) and Dance Commander live should truly pwn.

Say, how does one conduct one's self at a rock and/or roll concert? I'm guessing you can't headbang as you would at a metal gig.

Haha, just doesn't really seem like a thing that you'd do at a non metal/hardcore/punk gig to me though :P Electric Six's music doesn't sound particularly moshable to me >_>

Actually, I'd imagine that power thrusting would go down quite nicely at an Electric Six gig, taking their lyrics into account ;)

The Milton Experiance, September 15, Governer Hindmarsh Hotel, Port Road, 8:30pm.

Yeah.

EDIT: Estapol's Smilie count in latest post - 10

EDIT 2: It's coming Thursday! GOGOGOGOGOGOGOGOGO!

EDIT 3: COME COME IT STARTS AT 8:30 PM TONIGHT! COME SEE THE MILTON EXPERIANCE AT THE GOV!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

BrotherEstapol - September 15, 2005 12:38 PM (GMT)
Spoon gig last night was sick. :P

I didn't know many of their songs, but went anyway, and I came away very impressed. Not sure where else they are playing, but I suggest you get to their gig. ;)

Highlights were;
Talking to Wil Anderson(of Triple J and Glasshouse fame)about how he drove flew down to Canberra for the night just to see Spoon, and how he had to get up at 6am to fly up to the Sunshine Coast the next day!
The Bassist's sideburns...best I've eveer seen!
The lead singer asking if anyone had any weed, which then let to Wil Anderson giving him a joint. :P

Lowlights;
My firend bringing the receipt stub, instead of my ticket...though thankfully I hadn't payed him for it yet, so I just bought a ticket at the door. :P

JJJames7 - September 15, 2005 01:35 PM (GMT)
Holy shit... that was so damn good. The Milton Experiance just had thier gig that I was pumping all around this thread, and boy did they rock the house. All thier material was written by themselves; catchy riffs, awesome grunge-type guitar solos and funky bass lines made one hell of a cool night.

I told you all to go! Ah well. Here's some pictures. I'm tired and my ears are ringing.
