Title: Psychonauts

Well I think this will easily become my favourite Xbox game ever when it finally hits our shores. Why? Because it has spent four years in development and is made by Tim Schafer, known for classic adventure titles such as Grim Fandango, Full Throttle, and Day of the Tentacle.

Basically it is a quirkly, off-beat adventure game that not only adds innovation to the genre but supposably a gem of a storyline, something recent adventure games have been lacking.

Add to that the fact it has recieved big praise from Gamespot, IGN, etc. and I can't wait. Anybody heard of it, or excited for its upcoming release over here?

I'm excited about it, 12 months ago it was a different matter though. It was looking like it'd be a second-rate Voodoo Vince. The long development time along with the fact it jumped from publisher to publisher were also worries.

As of the last month or so I've been somewhat anticipating the game, it looks like it'll have a tonne of sheer character and personality. Couple that with the fact the gameplay has been given the thumbs up and you've got a game that's up there on my 'must get' list.

Yep, i've been looking forward to this one for a while. Psychonauts has already been proclaimed as a contender for game of the year by a few publications. Bring it on.

I just don't get it, how can someone in a multi billion dollar business let high quality product like Psychonauts escape from exclusivity, and decide to go with Blinx instead? How does someone obviously so insane or clueless about video gaming get in a position of power to be able to make such a unforgivable blunder?

Nobody should ever let Tim Shaefer go, for any reason. Not while he is still on a roll. If you have a license done by him, sure he may take some time, but you know that's an exclusive license worth having. Oddworld was a strange decision as well, but in a way, it still kind of remained dedicated to the platform even without Microsoft as a publisher.

I hadn't heard about this game, until I wandered over to IGN, and checked out the review. Imagine the smile on my face when I found out, that the maker of Sam & Max, was in charge of this game. Can't wait to see the character in this game.

Oddworld only remained Xbox exclusive by default. There was a PS2 version planned but in the end it seems no one could give a shit any more.

Microsoft dropped Psychonauts as part of an over all cut back in their internally funded games development. They dumped the XSN line of sports titles at the same time if you recall.

As big a Tim Schaffer fan as I am (He did write Grim Fandango afterall and that is the greatest adventure game of all time) I have to say that the game still represents a risk for Majesco (or anyone else who may have decided to publish it). Tim's last games have all been adventure titles, a genre sorely lacking in wallet filling popularity. On top of that we have a totally new genre to contend with too, a platformer, something Schaffer has not showed previous skills in.

End of the day I don't expect this to sell in particularly big numbers or make a splash in terms of general gamer opinion.

Having said that I can't wait for this game. I've been following it since day one and each work day morning for the past couple of years has started with a trip to the Double Fine site to check out the latest news. Incidently... Double Fine = Funniest damned developer site of all time.

I hope they get in their right minds to make a sequel to Top Spin. Awesome tennis game that is so close to perfection, a tweaked sequel (that listens to the fans) is all that is needed to make the best tennis game for a long forseeable future.

I wait and I pray for such a thing. Got Top Spin out for a burl with Denno the other night. I forgot how damned fine it is.

Actually the PS2 version was dropped because the guy who headed oddworld inhabitants said they couldn't get the same quality of graphics out of a ps2 as they could the xbox. It was a big thing for microsoft, because Oddworld had always been a well known playstation game before that point.

About how long is this game? I bought it sometime last year, and to be honest I haven't played it much. I think I'll play it soon now that its backwards compatible on the 360 :)

ElPresidente - May 6, 2007 09:48 PM (GMT)
You could probably get it completed in about 20 hours, allowing for getting stuck on puzzles, etc.

I've just beaten the game and am very close to getting the 100% (missing a few cards and maybe a dozen figments) and was wondering if the final, bonus cinematic thats unlocked for getting to level 100 is actually worth the trouble of going through the stages to find what I missed. You dont have to explain the movie, just let me know if its worth it.
