Description: Xbox & PS2

wasn't sure where to put this topic. thought about off topic but then decided against it. the xbox thread has been pretty quiet lately anyway

QUOTE
Chertsey, Surrey, UK – April 4, 2005 – According to the 2004 Urban Mobility Report by the Texas Transportation Institute, U.S. commuters endured 3.5 billion hours of traffic delays in 2002, at a cost of more than $63.2 billion. It's hell on the highway and Electronic Arts (NASDAQ: ERTS) today announced plans to let gamers live out their wildest commuter fantasies this September with Burnout RevengeTM.

Burnout Revenge lets gamers rip through rush hour traffic and lay waste to scores of rubbernecking roadhogs in an over-the-top scene of vehicular mayhem. The game is currently in development by Criterion Games for the PlayStation®2 computer entertainment system and Xbox® video game system from Microsoft.

Burnout Revenge is the sequel to 2004's award-winning Burnout 3: Takedown, which in March this year won three BAFTA Awards, including Best Racing and Best PS2 game categories, as well as being crowned Best PS2 game at the Joystick Awards 2004.

In addition to tricked out new race, crash and road rage modes, Burnout Revenge takes the series' blistering speed and spectacular destruction to dizzying new heights with an all-new Revenge mode, challenging gamers to battle the clock and unleash their frustrations on rush hour traffic.

EA will debut Burnout Revenge at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) in Los Angeles on May 18, 19 and 20, 2005.

I can't wait! :dance3:

Still haven't fully completed Burnout 3 though

Have they got another shitty reason why it won't be for the 'Cube?
Sigh.. I really need a PS2.. T_T

Comrade Natrak - April 4, 2005 03:54 PM (GMT)
I see EA, in typical fashion, got Criterion straight to work on another sequel. -_-

One can understand why they disposed of the number, with this being the 4th iteration.

Personally I would have preferred they left Burnout 3 alone on this generation and saved the next game for the next lot of systems.

Sybatical - April 4, 2005 10:23 PM (GMT)
Hopefully this one is for Next-Gen consoles.

I got sick of seeing the same 15 Cars in Blue and Brown. >_>

Manny M - April 4, 2005 11:25 PM (GMT)
Bring it on I say!

Damn whingers, the lot of you.

ultracrazy1 - April 5, 2005 12:11 AM (GMT)
Ah looks like night-time is back.

TrinityJayOne - April 5, 2005 12:49 AM (GMT)
I lost interest after the first 2 (and for my money the first one was the best anyway, because it was the one most like the arcade game it ripped off, Thrill Drive). Give it a rest now, EA.

kami - April 5, 2005 01:21 AM (GMT)
Interesting, though that brief comment above on the game didn't seem to indicate too much about the game that would make it a compelling buy.

borgster101 - April 5, 2005 02:57 AM (GMT)
Obviously EA were going to milk the series for all it's worth.

Machiavelli - April 5, 2005 03:39 AM (GMT)
Although i'm amped about this news, like Natrak i'd prefer to see this title on the next generation consoles. I really hope that EA didn't rush this game for a 2005 release, like the majority of their other titles (even though this is made by critereon).

So revenge mode allows you to cause mayhem in rush hour traffic? Sweet. Good to see crash and road rage are back.

same :D

criterion have had a great track record for making each game so much better than the last so i don't think there'll be much too worry about here.

So you haven't tried Burnout 3? If not, forget the first 2! Number 3 is simply phenomenal and has to be played!

As for this version - can't wait for it, but there's this "too soon" feeling about it....

I agree, No.3 shits all over the other 2 and then some! :D
You're a fool not to get it! A FOOL!!! :P

I loved Burnout 3, it'll be interesting to see how this one turns out.

We've learnt that from The Sims franchise :P

Anyways I still think this game looks pretty cool and number 3 was way better than 1 and 2 in my opinion. I hope they put in a destruction derby mode (how awesome would that be on Live?) they probably won't though... Who can I suggest that to that might actually do something with the idea?...

It does seem rushed though.

Hello - April 6, 2005 09:52 PM (GMT)
The Burnout games have never really done it for me. I think the crash levels get very samey, very quickly, and the actual racing doesn't provide the same gameplay as F-Zero (Nintendo fanboy get!).

dave_cool31 - April 6, 2005 11:37 PM (GMT)
I reckon Crash is fun and so is Road Rage, but, possibly the best part of number 3 is playing those two modes online.

I really hope they have a Destruction Derby type mode that you can play online in Burnout: Revenge.

NismoR34 - April 7, 2005 04:57 AM (GMT)
I agree with most of you on the fact that it is a little too soon for another sequel. However, it is Burnout we are talking about here. Criterion are behind it and well they have had an excellent track record so far so I have only one thing to say at the moment, well until E3 anyway.

Must. Have. Game. Now. :D

[DZ] - April 7, 2005 05:26 AM (GMT)
When I first read about this game, I was pissed. Pissed with EA! Sssss!! Grrr!

This is so typical of them, they take the last game, add revenge mode, add more sparks in the crashes, whip up a couple new rides and voila! EA all over!
Then they'll chuck in some half-arsed pop rock like The Killers into their Trax, and plaster the EA logo all over the box.
God bless Criterion. Poor bastards.

I can't wait for this though! :woot:

And Trin, if you want to powerslide I suggest playing Point of Impact (2nd), it feels more exhilirating and is more rewarding than in Takedown. Road Rage is very fun, and I hope revenge is good too.

BrotherEstapol - April 7, 2005 11:57 AM (GMT)
It is sad that EA will be enforcing their yearly edition mantra to Burnout, but lets just hope that there is no quality loss from Criterion. :)

Diss The Killers again, and I'll ban you. :D

Comrade Natrak - April 7, 2005 12:20 PM (GMT)
The Killers suck.

After reading an interview with one of the Designers from Criterion, Burnout Revenge isn't sounding like it'll be just a flashy rehash. The fact that you can now take down traffic as well as opponents sounds nice and, as with the title, there is a greater emphasis on revenge. The best takedown you can get is a revenge takedown. It's like an evolution of the revenge takedowns in BO3, it means there'll be greater incentive to get back at someone if they take you down. Also, they've added the crashbreaker to regular races, this means if you get taken down, not only do you have aftertouch but you'll have the crashbreaker available to create a giant wreckage and hopefully take some others down with you (I'm assuming the amount of times you'll be able to do this per race will be limited)

The new Traffic Attack mode has you racing through traffic-filled streets and you objective is to take down as much traffic as you can within the time limit.

Also, the developer commented briefly on the fact that the Crash Mode is going to be unbelievable, but he'll comment further on it closer to E3.

Course design will also be modified to take full advantage of the possibilities for aggressive driving (apparantly in BO3, the tracks were completed before they included the agressive driving feature).

NismoR34 - April 7, 2005 03:04 PM (GMT)
I think a ban is in order for Natrak, what do you think Estapol? (The Killers do not suck...)

Anyhoo, this game's success will be riding on what Criterion are able to do. Hopefully EA isn't in charge of everything...

I'm geussing Traffic Attack mode will only be played with big 4x4's? Like the Fire Engine, Garbage Truck, Shuttle etc you could use in Crash mode in Takedown. Otherwise it'll just be a Crash Mode clone where you cause as much damage as possible. (mo)

Crash Mode will probably be like Stuntman? ;)

Comrade Natrak - April 8, 2005 04:03 AM (GMT)
I'm guessing you'll have the option of using the big fuckers or the regular cars, the aim isn't to crash your car, you aim is to take down traffic like you would opponents and hopefully cause some large pile-ups. It's really sounds more like it'll be a nice mix between Rampage, Time Attack and Crash mode rather than a 'Crash mode clone'.

dave_cool31 - April 8, 2005 05:29 AM (GMT)
Wow sounds pretty awesome... Although I do hate EA... Stupidhead farmers :P

Hm, yeah that sounds right. Then you watch the pile-up action replay while the ai takes control of your car like in Takedown. The replays would last a while though. By the time the pile up's over the ai will have driven your car to the finish line!

NismoR34 - August 19, 2005 01:22 PM (GMT)
Well I don't know about the rest of you lot but now that my 3 most anticipated titles (Zelda, Shadow of Colossus and PGR 3) are all releasing next year I'm finding that there isn't that much else to look out for. There is a few titles sure but nothing too flash hot.
So that leaves me with Burnout Revenge being the only real game that I'm definitely buying upon release and well with good reason too as IGN confirms in their preview.

Despite the short time between Takedown and this one, Revenge is still shaping up to be quite an awesome game. The new modes and the fact that there are vertical Takedowns now are enough to make it a worthy sequel, well I think so anyway. I can't wait, what about you?

Discuss!

DJ-Civic - August 19, 2005 01:57 PM (GMT)
Wait. Who says PGR3 and SotC got delayed to '06?

Anyway, I'm buying this asap and jumping online with it. I remember how much time I spent with BO3 online and how many people were added to my friends list because of it. The other question in my mind is; should I get the Xbox or Xbox360 version. (If I get one at launch)

NismoR34 - August 19, 2005 02:22 PM (GMT)
I didn't say they were delayed. It is pretty obvious that PGR 3 won't be releasing here this year considering we aren't getting the console this year and well I'm not sure about Shadow's date yet. Last time I knew it was pushed back till next year though.

As for online play, I'd love to join you as I have been getting multiplayer urges with Takedown recently but alas you know my situation. <_< One day eh?

Comrade Natrak - August 19, 2005 02:44 PM (GMT)
SotC is estimated to release in 06 in our region, it's not far off release in Japan though, and it should be out by Christmas in the US. One would think with Zelda out of the way that Sony would try and really push SotC for the Christmas period...alas...

I'm still not sure if I'll wind up getting Burnout Revenge, it does indeed sound like it's shaping up very nicely however I'm not sure I'm yet sold on the relatively minor new inclusions.

NismoR34 - August 22, 2005 04:33 PM (GMT)
I'm anticipating Shadow of the Colossus so much that I'm tempted in buying an American Ps2 and importing just to get my hands on it. That's a topic for its own thread though.

Revenge is only about a month off from release now so I'm definitely putting money aside for it. Can't wait to see what it is like to Takedown the traffic now and I also can't wait to try vertical Takedowns. Should be rocking.

BrotherEstapol - August 24, 2005 07:32 AM (GMT)
I know everyone but me hated the BO:3 soundtrack, so lets see what everyone thinks of the BO:R soundtrack. :P

I didn't actually give two hoots about BO3's soundtrack or its announcer, and I'm sure the same will go for BOR. If anything BO3's soundtrack felt at home within the game.

BrotherEstapol - August 24, 2005 12:11 PM (GMT)
I think the best feature of BO:3 was the DJ = OFF feature. :P

DJ-Civic - August 24, 2005 01:38 PM (GMT)
"Meh" from me. Don't know anyone on there but Chemical Bros and BT. I'll give it a listen before I switch to custom soundtrack though.

NismoR34 - August 24, 2005 04:35 PM (GMT)
I was one of the haters of Burnout 3's soundtrack but about half of the songs have now grown on me. I still prefer my custom soundtrack that I have for it though, it is one perfect for getting you in the mood to crash. Works extremely well for Road Rage. :)

As for Revenge's list, it is 10x better than Takedown's but I will wait and see before I decide to use custom soundtracks or its own.
I'm certainly getting pumped for this title though. :D

KickyFunkFresh - August 24, 2005 10:01 PM (GMT)
Hurrah for custom sountracks!

[DZ] - August 25, 2005 02:57 AM (GMT)

Bloc Party, The Bravery, Chemical Bros, Goldfinger, MxPx, Pennywise, Thrice, Unwritten Law. Sounds pretty good to me. :)

Manny M - August 25, 2005 11:17 AM (GMT)
Pretty pumped for this I am. Burnout 3 was the first burnout game I played, and it's right up there with the best racing games on my list.
