Title: Sell Gamecube and Get PS2

Dakwota - March 22, 2005 07:51 AM (GMT)
Should I trade in my gamecube + 1 wavebird, 1 third party + an extra nintendo control, 251 mem card and Tales of Symphonia, F-Zero GX, Metroid Prime, Medal of honor, zelda bonus, zelda ww and burnout 2 to buy a PS2 + Gran turismo 4?

I really want gran turismo 4 and hardly play my gcn (not for like 3 months) and only play my xbox.

So would EB give me enough for all that to afford a PS2 + Gran turismo pack?

PS - I love extreme sport games (tony hawk, matt hoffman) and would buy them for the Ps2 as I prefer the controler over the xbox for those games.

PPS - I'm not just buying it for one game, i would buy other titles aswell but if it's a multi platform game I'd probebly buy it for xbox.

GramIN - March 22, 2005 09:03 AM (GMT)
I wouldn't. But I already own all 3 current consoles so meh.

~DC - March 22, 2005 09:20 AM (GMT)
I'd buy Tales of Symphonia off you for a reasonable price.

Dakwota - March 22, 2005 09:38 AM (GMT)
It depends...
I'm not allowed 3 consoles so I have to get rid of one and I havent played the Gcn much lately (or ever).
I would still finish tales before I let go of it though!
I also have Starfox so add that to the collection.

But my main question was - Would EB give me enough credit with all that to afford the Ps2?

Well I'd suggets you keep for RE4, Zelda and possibly Mario 128.(it might be a Revolution game)

My brother bought Mat Hoffman and Dave Mirra for the cube, and didn't like the controller, so I bought him a converter so that he could use his old PS1 controller on the cube.
Best $10 I ever spent. (I saw one for $5 at EB the other day)

Most of the extreme sports games come out on the Xbox as well as the PS2, and since you've got the box already, I can't see why you want to play them on the PS2 just because of the controller.
I suggest you get one of these:

That way, all you'd need to buy is a PS1/2 controller, and then you're all set. (and playing the game with better graphics I might add. ;) )

As for your actual question, if I've got my numbers right, I'd say EB would take that lot for just under $300, which would indeed get you the GT4 bundle.
But be warned, you'd also need a PS2 memory card, and they are like $70 retail.
You could probably try and get the clerk to throw in the memory card, but you might end up with a shitty third party one.(which is never good)

Anyways, in the end it's up to you.

EDIT: Not allowed to have 3 consoles?! If it's your money, tell em to shove it. :upyours2:

The PS2 memory cards actually go for around $40 these days. :P

Well it's not like I'm in the market for them, I was just going by what they were last time I checked. :P

Dakwota - March 22, 2005 11:28 AM (GMT)
Yeah also K-mart is selling a controller, mem card and dvd remote for $73.83!

Even if it is my own money I don't really need a third console.

Well it would actually be a forth cause i own a PS1!

But i'd never thought i'd buy a PS2 but chances are I will!

As much as Gran Turismo 4 is awesome, I don't think it is worth you selling your Gamecube (and your good games) for it.

Besides, by the sounds of it your money situation (and perhaps your games collection because of it) is rather limited, so only getting GT4 would be a bad idea. If you do have money issues, then buying awesome titles such as San Andreas and Metal Gear Solid 3 would be rather hard for you.

Don't sell it says I. Go rob and a bank and just have the 3 consoles. Stuff what your family says. :P

Dakwota - March 22, 2005 08:34 PM (GMT)
I would'nt get San Andreas cause I want it on XBOX when it comes out. And I also said that I would buy other games but probebly only exclusive titles for the PsTwo.
I do have money I just don't want to spend it on a console then not have so much money :)
I buy games over time but would probebly just card off with Gran Turismo 4 and an extra controller, mem card and remote.

But do you think they'll give me enough for it?

~DC - March 22, 2005 08:41 PM (GMT)
No, they certainly wouldn't give you enough for what the total package is really worth. It may just be better advertising the stuff seperately.

[DZ] - March 22, 2005 09:57 PM (GMT)
Oh, if only Moggo could read this! :P

It would be a good idea if you sold your XBox and PS1 imo. Don't sell your GCN cos its gonna be getting great games pretty soon like RE4 and the new Zelda. Buy a PS2 then with the rest of the moolah get yourself a Xenon when its released this summer (hopefull!) with San Andreas cos I'm pretty sure its backwards compatible. There, its not that hard, am I the only logical thinker here?? :P

ElPresidente - March 23, 2005 04:10 AM (GMT)
As an owner of all three I'd say if you could only have two... then sell the GCN and get a PS2.

Like you my GCN barely gets touched and the Xbox, PC and PS2 get all the game time. Only thing that has brought the GCN out of the closet lately has been RE4.

Dakwota - March 23, 2005 04:45 AM (GMT)
yeah, I got tales for christmas, played it flat out and then havent played anything on it since!

[m]averick - March 23, 2005 05:18 AM (GMT)
You're gonna regret selling all those games for one measly game and an inferior console, but hey, whatever you wanna do is fine with me. I just want to be around when you start whinging that it was a foolish thing to do.

Right now Gamecubes aren't even worth selling, keep that in mind.

casual_pedestrian - March 23, 2005 09:43 AM (GMT)
I don't have a cube, but if I did, I wouldn't sell it.

I've lost count of the people who regret selling their consoles, particualarly their n64. Sure it may seem like an okay idea to you now, but you will regret it in the long run. I've held onto everything of mine and I'm so glad I have. I remember I was so keen to get a PlayStation I was thinking of selling my NES to get it, but I thought otherwise, and I'm very happy I did.

Think about it, Cube's are probably gonna be rare in the future, so hold onto it.

Get the ps2 and just don't tell your parents or somethin :P Just don't sell off anything to get it.

Dakwota - March 23, 2005 11:05 AM (GMT)
Oh yeah since the Tv's in the Family room and they won't notice a new console.

Just hide the GCN then. :P
