Title: Room for one more aboard the Ninty bandwagon? :D

*creaks open Ninty General door*
Greetings Ninty fans! [/Stan Lee]
I've come to announce that very shortly I will own my very first (new) Nintendo console, hooray!!

The main reason for my purchase is
Animal Crossing, and now
Pikmin 2 as well. My fave genres are racers and RPG's. One of my housemates has a GC too and already has a few games-
-
Metroid Prime-
Lost Kingdoms *shudders*
-
FF: Crystal Chronicles *shudders*
What games do you recommend? What titles should I be raiding EB's bargain bins for? The cheaper the game, the better. ;)
Also, how memory hungry are GC games? I have no idea how the GC's page/block system works, and I wanna know if I should get a large memory card straight away or make do with the memory card 59 that comes with
Animal Crossing.
Now when's my initiation ceremony?
BrotherEstapol - April 30, 2004 09:56 AM (GMT)
Firstly, WELCOME TRIN!! :D
Super Smash Brothers: Melee
Resident Evil
Zelda: The Wind Waker
Mario Kart: Double Dash (not the best in the series, but still damned good! :P)
Super Mario Sunshine (not as bad as everyone says)
Viewtiful Joe
Ikaruga
There's more, but I can't be bothered listing em now. ;)
AND....the ceremony takes place at Midnight one night before a full moon....bring a Gamboy(any one will do), a framed picture of Shiggy, and a 6 pack of the strongest Alcohol you can get. :)
Oh, and don't worry about pants....you be be needing those....
quartz_donkey - April 30, 2004 10:11 AM (GMT)
Our brother forgot to metion that animal crossing will take up all the space on the mem card they give you so you will need another one a big one. Also Agressive Inline if your inclined to buy it (I got it cheap and one of my most played games if not the best) also takes up 57 pages and the standard card has only 59 pages. Some games companys seem lazy with the amount they use.
AmyRose - April 30, 2004 10:37 AM (GMT)
I would suggest the following (just writing what I like, not reading other people's posts, so apologies for the double ups):
Metroid Prime
Sonic Adventure 2: Battle
Animal Crossing :P
Super Smash Bros: Melee
The Legend Of Zelda: The Wind Waker (even better if you can find a copy with the bonus disk! It has OoT and OoT: Master Quest), the game I'm currently playing.
You might also want to invest in Spider-Man, if you liked the movie. It's not exactly true to the comics, but it's great anyway. I love Spidey.
hij4ck3r - April 30, 2004 11:22 AM (GMT)
If your into animal crossing you will wanna look at Harvest moon if you can find it that is though, there was only 1 initial shipment another 1's due mid-late may.
Theres not to many good racing games though if thats one of your fav. genres although f-zero is fun if your into that futuristic stuff.
I'd recomend you pick up a mem card 251 itll serve you for quite a number of games. ( you wont get by with the mem card 59 with animal crossing as it uses the whole thing)
Anyway enjoy your new investment.
Moggo - April 30, 2004 02:11 PM (GMT)
Meh, Animal Crossing gets old quickly if you like a bit of variety and excitement.
I suggest:
Mario Kart: Double Dash
Burnout 2
Super Smash Bros Melee
Metal Gear Solid: TTS
Metroid Prime, obviously.
Enjoy it mate. ;)
The ghost who walks - April 30, 2004 02:39 PM (GMT)
i found animal crossing to get very monotonous very quickly, i'd suggest getting zelda:ww, ssbm, viewtiful joe, ikaruga, soul calibur II(if you don't already have it) and a couple of other games that i can't remeber at the moment :P.
Hello - April 30, 2004 10:57 PM (GMT)
Metroid Prime and Resident Evil 1 & O are my fave games.
Pikmin's also very good, if you're looking for something different.
Super Mario Sunshine isn't as crappy as was 1st made out, and you'll have some good times especially if you've haven't played Mario 64.
F-Zero shouldn't be over-looked either, and hello had a good week of Mario Golf (purchase if you're only really, really keen on golf), but she's a little bit too short.

I can't believe no ones mentioned it, I'm both shocked and appalled. Phantasy Star Online Ep I & II is an awesome rpg, I thouroughly reccomend it. You'll probably have to import it from europe though. On the needing to import note, Skies of Arcadia is another great rpg that you'd also probably have to import.
There's nothing substansial as far as racing titles go on the gamecube unfortunately, the only exclusive I can name off the top of my head is mario kart dd- not a bad game but its a multiplayer fun karting game rather than a true racer.
Machiavelli - May 1, 2004 03:54 AM (GMT)
Welcome aboard Trin. :) Not sure if anyone has mentioned it yet, but Super Monkey Ball should definately be part of your collection. If you are more of a lone gamer, it still isn’t a bad addition.
So many multiplayer memories.
Sybatical - May 1, 2004 05:45 AM (GMT)
Upcoming Games:
Zelda TWW2
Metroid Prime 2
Resident Evil 4

That's probably half the reason it hasn't been mentioned. ;)
I can't really think of games to recommend, on the whole there haven't been any Gamecube titles that have really jumped out at me aside from the usual Zelda, Mario and Metroid.
Hopefully Baten Kaitos will be good, I've been keeping an eye on it for a while, it's due over here around Q4 I believe.
tinklez - May 1, 2004 06:29 AM (GMT)
If you haven't played the DC version, try hunting down a copy of Skies of Arcadia Legends. It's one of my favourite RPG's of recent times (and one of only a few RPG's on the Cube) and I hear a sequel may be on it's way. :)
Most other games I would have also said has already been mention so I won't bother. ;)
TrinityJayOne - May 1, 2004 07:38 AM (GMT)
I'll most definately be looking into Harvest Moon, had completely forgotten about that one. ;) Anyone know if it's all new or a port?
I own Soul Calibur II on PS2 already, which I got by selling Burnout 2 after I finished it in a single weekend, thus I won't be needing either of those games. ;)
The new Sonic games aren't really my cup of tea, I think it's one of those games that never should've made the transition to 3D.
Just curious, how can Phantasy Star possibly be online on a console that can't go online? @_@
F-Zero GX I've played a fair bit, didn't really like it though. Wipeout did the futuristic racer much better in my opinion. Simulation > arcade anyway. :P
Super Monkey Ball - I saw a review of this once and thought it was a joke! Such an interesting concept, I'll definately be checking it out at some point. ;)

Just for clarification, the gamecube can go online, if you import an adaptor. However, PSO has incredibly deep offline single and multiplayer modes. A lot of import places sell it rather cheap and it is more than worth picking up even if you do not plan to get a gamecube 56k/bb adaptor.
As far as I know, harvest moon is a completely new game. I havent been too interested in it though so I may be wrong.
BrotherEstapol - May 1, 2004 08:17 AM (GMT)
Tales of Symphonia(sp) should be out by the end of the year.(in the US at least)
If you want to know how good it will be, here is an indcation:
When it first came out in Japan, it helped the GCN out sell the PS2.
Which is a fucking big feat if you ask me.
It also had raving reviews as well. :P

You can get one from Nintendo Australia for $59(I think) and that's including postage. ;)
Shadow Knight - May 1, 2004 08:24 AM (GMT)
Two Words: Viewtiful Joe.
Woody - May 1, 2004 03:02 PM (GMT)
If you're looking into Phantasy Star Online I saw a few copies in a video games store in Melbourne a while back.
Not sure of the name but its upstairs on the corner near the Myers complex where they have the display windows. You've probably been there before, but anyway just thought I'd mention that.

Without question!
If you're after a game that'll make you pull your hair out because it's so hard, get VJ! :D
My hair was growing back, but I recently started playing it again on the 2nd hardest setting.

Yeah, although you always come back to the game for some reason...
Definately VJ!
And maybe Metal Gear Solid The Twin Snakes, although I havent played it yet.
Lordage - May 2, 2004 01:13 PM (GMT)
I would suggest getting 'Pahntasy Star Online: Episodes 1&2,' 'Animal Crossing,' 'Pikmin' Well if you're getting 'Pikmin 2' you may as well play through the original), 'Ikaruga' and 'Harvest Moon: A Wonderful Life.'
The GCN is a great console, it's just lacking a lot of support. :(

Do yourself a favour and pick up Zelda: WW. Bloody awesome game. Looks so purty and has so much charm. A MUST!

If you have friends (and let's assume you do), the offline Multiplayer more is an absolute blast. It's great fun cooperatively as well as competitively (omg XP stealer! Kill stealer!). Thing is, it's a good idea to start at the same time. It's slightly less fun to have to baby a lvl 4 n00b when your buff lvl 30 character kills everyone in one hit.
Skies is a good choice. I'm into RPGs, and cannot fathom how rare this game is to find. Looks like I'll have to hit DVDcrave again.
*ahem*
As far as racing goes...you're screwed. :P
I can't think of a single worthwhile racing game you would like. (F-zero...nah. Burnout...nah)

Not gonna get here on Monday, eh Fusi? :P

And what is the one you're talking about? There are heaps of RPGs coming out at the end of this year.

I know about Baiten Kados and Tales of Symphonia coming out at the end of the year, but I wasn't aware of any RPGs on the cube released, to date.
And due the obscure "ness" of the said emoticon I use it for both winking and confusion. ;) <-- Winking
