Title: Project Gotham Racing 2
Description: Official Thread.

Who else has this great game? I bought it back in December and still play it everyday, i've completed it on gold but is it worth going for platinum?

Buffoon - April 30, 2004 01:24 PM (GMT)
Yeah, I've had PGR2 pretty much since its release, and I still play it every now and then. It's cool for cruising around in and admiring the well balanced mix of gameplay depth and sheer fun of hooning. But for some reason I never got into PGR2 enough to play it obsessively (unlike GT3, which I definitely played obsessively). I really wish I had Live though, then I reckon I'd only stop playing PGR2 to eat and, maybe, sleep.

In any case, I've got my money's worth. PGR2 and Moto GP2 really make Xbox the best racing game console ever, IMO.

Lordage - May 1, 2004 01:43 AM (GMT)
PGR2 on Live is second to none. The countless battles I've had with Xamer and the like are some of my best gamimg memories. Sure, it's not Gran Tourismo, but it's a great game. :)

NismoR34 - May 1, 2004 05:15 PM (GMT)
God, I really, really need to get my hands on this game. I'm assuming I'll love it Lordage?

Machiavelli - May 2, 2004 02:42 AM (GMT)
My God platinum is hard, the last Chicago race in the American Muscle series is in my opinion the most frustrating. First of all, the Corvette is a major pain to control, and second of all, the other cars are really gunning for you. I can't tell you how many times I was in the lead going into the last two turns only to be clipped by an AI car and end up last. Grrr!

Anyone think GT3 would be much better with online play? It gets boring by yourself doing 300 mile endurance races against AI that are 3 laps behind you, but the cars and the physics are fantastic.

By the way, what does your license plate say people? Mine is simply "SEE YA" :)

Lordage - May 2, 2004 12:56 PM (GMT)
I have only completed PGR2 on Silver so far... I think it will stop there. :P

As for license plates mine reads "Piro" which is my name in pretty much every PC game I play. :P I'd have used it for Xbox Live but it was taken. :(

It better be, I've almost done it. Mind you I'm a bit of a TVR fan, if the last car was anything but the Speed 12 I wouldn't bother.

Machiavelli - I got that medal yesterday, and I won by a country mile :D

My plates say TUF STF. Best. Plates. Ever.

Yeah I tend to find the muscle cars easy to drive. I use their weight, as well as their power, to my advantage and slide them through corners, defeting the need to steer as much and making it a lot easier to corner. Just steer into the corner at the right speed and the car will slide, then use their power to push it through. As it is sliding the weight plays little effect on its ability to push it out of the corner faster than normal.

NismoR34 - May 2, 2004 04:54 PM (GMT)
Thanks for answering me Lordage! :P

Anyway, I've been meaning to hire this game out for a while, but everytime I go down to the video store, it's never there. Niether is the original one, so I miss out. :(

Lordage - May 3, 2004 09:16 AM (GMT)
Sorry Nismo, I missed that... Somehow. You will adore it man, it's bloody brilliant. :)

Well you were right! :)
I went down to the video store today, to see if Vice City was there for rent, but what do I find instead? PGR2!! :D
I'm finding that this game definately rocks hard, like everyone says. I'm loving just cruising around the tracks, and sliding and stuff.
Although, now that I'm enjoying it, I think it sucks that I only have it for a night. :(
The music rocks hard too, I'm listening to a Washington DC radio station now, and I like! :) ;)
Oh, and for the record, Vice City wasn't there, neither was Halo. :(

I agree. I use the Ford Mustang Cobra seemed like the most suited to me after I tried them all out.

Careful, don't strain yourself :P

I think the Street Races are usually won in the first few corners. After that you can block 2nd place, and if they get in front it's not too difficult to get ahead again. On that particular race, this isn't true, you've actually got to push to make faster lines and chase the leader down before it gets too far ahead. This was the last Street Race I had to get in Platinum because I think it's the toughest.

And with reference to Nismo's post, what's your choice in driving tunes? I use the custom playlist. A few bands/songs I think suit the game well are:
Queens of the Stone Age
Audioslave
Gerling
Kings of Leon (especially "Wasted Time")
Rage Against the Machine
PJ Harvey (notably "Kamikaze")
Plant Funk ("The Switch")
Timo Maas ("To Get Down")
and some song by the name of Madder, I don't know who does it.

There's a fair bit of variety there. Try them out, they rock.

Lordage - May 4, 2004 12:02 PM (GMT)
I listen to Ministry of Sound: The Annual 2004 when I'm playing PGR2, I feel it suits perfectly.

NismoR34 - May 4, 2004 03:35 PM (GMT)
Unfortunately, the game had to go back today. If only this Xbox was mine, I would buy PGR2, as it's a brilliant game, and I love it. I spent most of the day just mucking around though, doing some donuts and etc. ;)

Anyway, I didn't get the chance to try a custom playlist. Most of my good songs are on the computer anyway, so I wouldn't be able to make a good playlist, with the cd's I do have...

Junker - May 27, 2004 11:19 AM (GMT)
Oh yeah! 172 Plats. Speed 12. King of the road. Someone sex me right now!

Manny M - May 27, 2004 11:56 PM (GMT)
I played this game briefly before I bought my Xbox at my mates place, and I wasn't too impressed. For some reason it felt a little too clunky for my likings....keep in mind though, that I was still on a rush from playing NFS:U at the time, with its arcadey speedness surely putting a damper of my PGR2 experience.

Might borrow it off my mate though..

Dude, I recommend you forget hiring it, and actually purchase it.
You know how much I enjoyed NFSU, and still do, but this games wipes NFSU to the floor by a mile!
It's just awesome, and I shall eventually pick it up also.
If you don't get this game, then I'll come and kill ya! :ph43r: :cheese:

Manny M - May 31, 2004 11:51 PM (GMT)
Hire it?? What exhaust fumes are you smoking Nismo...

My mate's got it, I might borrow it off him.

But i'm looking forward to Forza...and NFS:U2 of course

Hiring, borrowing. What's the difference? You still don't have it for keeps-sake do you? :P

As I said before, I highly recommend the game, well worth the purchase. Then you can get Forza and NFSU2. :P

St@ckboy - August 11, 2004 12:42 AM (GMT)
Hi I'm the annoying guy who revices a dead thread!!!!

Just bought this yesterday and loving it. Being a big fan of GT3 I find that these games are completely different to each other. GT3 is way more simulation, whilst PGR2 is more arcade orientated with its kudos system etc. I like the medal system ie if you have issues getting a medal on medium you can always knock it down to easy and come back to the higher medal later. Nice replayability as well.

7/10!!

NismoR34 - August 11, 2004 04:15 PM (GMT)
Having experienced the much better handling in GT4: Prologue, I really don't class GT3 as a simulation anymore. Okay I do cause you can still customise your car and do all that but really, it will be an Arcade racer when GT4 releases. ;)

Project Gotham Racing 2 is a good game and I'm glad you like it. Oh and it is perfectly alright to revive a thread (as long as you aren't spamming it), heck I was gonna revive this one anyway once I got my copy of the game. ;)

Sorry Nismo but GT3 will NEVER be an arcade racer. :)

Junker - August 12, 2004 03:03 AM (GMT)
Well in other news I just finished all the Plats in Arcade mode last night. Didn't get anything for it though (other than Kudos). Someone wanna shout me some Live? :P

What a dumb thing to say - even for you.

Ok, good to see this thread back up as I have the game too, but unfortunately my opinion on the game isn't very good. I feel like it's trying to be both a sim and arcade racer at once, and that just doesn't work imo. From what I've played, I give it a :5:
Give me NFSU or GT3 any day.

NismoR34 - August 12, 2004 04:39 PM (GMT)
Bah j00 all suck. Both of you didn't understand my comment there...

I fully understand it.

Compared to GT4, you think GT3 doesn't count as a simulator.
Which is stupid, compared to GT3, GT4 is more realistic, but that doesn't mean that GT3 is all of sudden unrealistic.

Comrade Natrak - August 13, 2004 03:02 PM (GMT)
Civ, you get that feeling because that's exactly what it's trying to do. It's not easy to get into but it's rewarding in the end, some form of tutorial would have really helped with the game.

Stick with it Civ, it's a quality title it just takes a lot of warming up to.

I don't know how much more warming up I can take. :P I really want to get into it, but still no dice.
If I don't get fully into by the time BO3 gets here, I'm trading it in.

Comrade Natrak - August 13, 2004 03:35 PM (GMT)
Sounds like a fair enough compromise, hopefully you'll be into it by then. :)

There you have it, proof you do not understand. :P

Meh, just ignore the comment and let us move on shall we? I really can't be farked elaborating on what I meant.

DJ-Civic - August 18, 2004 02:38 PM (GMT)
Ok, so after playing the game some more, I'm going to have to eat my own words as I'm now enjoying game. :P
It definately needs some breaking in as I wasn't liking the game very much, but after unlocking more powerful and fun cars, the game picked up.
So after my longer play time, I'll revise my score up to an :8:

NismoR34 - August 19, 2004 02:23 PM (GMT)
And you didn't believe the game was fun when I said so. Proves how much you value my opinion!

Seriously though it's good to see you're liking the game now and that you'll keep it. (right?)

Personally I enjoyed the game as soon as I fired it up and started playing so that's probably why I couldn't understand your lack of enjoyment for the title.

Now go for platinums.. :P

NismoR34 - January 24, 2005 03:44 PM (GMT)
I am reviving this thread for one reason. Bragging rights.

I've gotten all Platinums on this game now and I took a photo for all to see.

Platinums ahoy!

Another racing game fully completed by yours truly, Gran Turismo 4 is next. :D

DJ-Civic - January 25, 2005 01:02 PM (GMT)
Does anyone give a rats behind about this game anymore? Didn't think so. Well, except one person... ^ :P

NismoR34 - January 25, 2005 04:02 PM (GMT)
You never really gave a rats arse about the game in the first place, so your opinion doesn't count.

Manny M - January 26, 2005 01:48 AM (GMT)
I never gave a rats about this game.

Go go Forza!

NismoR34 - January 26, 2005 05:44 PM (GMT)
Wow, I never knew two people's opinions meant the game sucked. :P

Nah seriously, say what you like. I however like the game, and I'm proud of the dedication I put into it to acheive this feat. Not a lot of people do achieve it and I did.

That's what counts in the end, right?

Thank god I didn't mention my overall play time for the game... :P
