BrotherEstapol - March 3, 2005 12:44 PM (GMT)
For some reason this game seem really appealing to me, so I thought I'd make a thread about. :P

It seems that Nintendo will be releasing Nintendogs in three different editions. Each edition will contain its own set of dogs waiting your instruction. Each edition and the dogs they contain are broken down below.

Who isn't? I'd get the chihuahua version. SO cute. :P Ahem, so yeah, how about those V8s huh? *drinks beer*

Weee this game looks like fun. I love dogs, I can't have pets where I live so this could be a good substitute.

Wasn't there a game featuring dogs on the PS2?

There was also a little update:

QUOTE
Newly released info seems to show that although each game comes with its own 5 dogs. After communication with other edition owners, you can "Collect" and end up with all 15 dogs. (Very Pokemon like) The Dogs will also be able to communicate with each other whilst the DS's are in sleep mode

It sounds interesting... but I don't see myself buying this unless it was heavily discounted.

An interesting tidbit:

QUOTE
Here's a surprising revelation for those with an eye on Nintendo's sizable secret gaming vault. In a recent interview, Shigeru Miyamoto reveals that the upcoming Puppy Times (Nintendogs in Japan) dog-raising simulation was originally started as a GameCube game. The game's development team tried out a number of experiments on the GameCube and, while they were able to make some realistic-looking dogs, they determined the resulting gameplay experience to not be much fun. So, they moved the project over to the DS.

Add another bit of unreleased code to the Nintendo gaming vault which includes Nintendo PlayStation games and countless other bits of gold that we'll never get a chance to see.

Nintendogs was going to be a GameCube game. And PS1 games? Looks like Nintendo were some ways into development when they dissolved their partnership with Sony back in the SNES days.

Yeah, and it sucked major balls! It was A Dogs Life.

These Nintendogs games are just like Tamagotchi's to me. I have a puppy, so I won't be hanging around this one if I ever get a DS. :P
The dogs are cute though.

borgster101 - March 5, 2005 12:39 AM (GMT)
Ah thought so, when I saw this DS game, that PS2 game came to my mind. They're completly different though.

[DZ] - March 5, 2005 06:45 AM (GMT)
Yes, they're totally different. But I think they're both pointless. Unless you're a lonely, sad, antisocial nerd. :P

How is it any different from any other game? No game will ever give you a reward that isn't just self forfillment.(unless you're playing in a tournament which has a cash prize)

Btw, I thought you had totally completed GTA:VC and GT3?
I'd say that's pretty pointless thing to do...and a very nerdy one at that. ;)

[DZ] - March 5, 2005 09:40 AM (GMT)
Yeah, but I can't kill/runover/kick/stab/shoot/rape random ppl in real life. I have a dog, thats it, and thats enough for me. I'm not the Sims type of player. I like to experiment but try not to get sucked in like what I do with games like GTA and MGS. :P

borgster101 - March 6, 2005 01:34 AM (GMT)
Yeah, but that's simply your taste in genre, DZ, there are many people that adore sim games.

[DZ] - March 6, 2005 10:05 AM (GMT)
I love Sim City. :P Anything I can actually do in real life I won't bother doing in a game. I'll never get to drive a Zonda, I'll never get to fly a plane, and I'll never build a city in real life.

But will you ever be able to raise a Pedigree Rough Collie(aka a Lassie Dog)?

They cost shitloads, far more than a DS and all it's avaliable games. :P

On the other hand you actually can, as you said; "kill/runover/kick/stab/shoot/rape random ppl in real life." only difference is that it's illegal, and you'll be put in Gaol for it.

But since you can do that in real life, you won't bother with GTA...right?

Why won't you be able to fly plane? You could if you really wanted to! You could bulid a city as well or maybe you'll one day be able to drive any car you want. These things are impossible, they can be achieved.

I wouldn't like to think that you play games simply to experience simulated versions of things that you want to do in real life, I dont know whether you aspire to be a pilot or an architect, but does this then mean that if you were a pilot you wouldn't want to fly a plane in a game? Does this mean that formula one drivers never play formula one games? I don't think so.

Anyway, back on topic :P

According to Nintendo, the US version, officially called Nintendogs, is currently in the localization phase, but it won't be a direct conversion of the Japanese version set to hit shelves in that territory next month. The US version will actually have more than the Japanese edition: more puppy breeds and more toys to play and trade with. The US version may omit a couple of puppy breeds that are popular in Japan but not in the States, but even with the exclusions the stateside edition will contain a larger line-up of dogs when it's completed later this year.

The puppies in Nintendogs will never grow up but they can be retired in favor of other dogs to train. As many as three dogs can be active in a player's cartridge, but players will have to note that dogs will behave specifically with others - some puppies may not get along with others, for example.

ds.ign.com

Looks like we should get more dogs (and if NAL is really good they should localize it for Australia) and they've gotten rid of that stupid 'Puppy Times' name. Nintendogs sounds a lot better.

Eyce - March 10, 2005 10:02 AM (GMT)
I am so getting Dachs & Friends.

This is going to be a fun game.

[EDIT]: Off the official site, decoded using Google Translation :P. Brackets are the sounds linked up...

[EDIT 2]: It's being released in Japan on the 21st of April. Late Spring Release here?

borgster101 - March 10, 2005 11:27 PM (GMT)
With the voice recognition, does this mean that we'll have to speak in Amercian accents? Because I doubt it'll be localised to regonise the aussie tounge.

Phen - March 18, 2005 11:29 AM (GMT)
No, you will program the comands using your voice, and you can say anything for a command, i.e. "boogeyman" for 'sit' (too quote the video). That's perfect, because I can't whistle. However, I am a little concerned about looking like a psyco on the bus, calling to my dog...

Alright then, that solves any of those region problems :)

DJ-Civic - March 26, 2005 01:42 PM (GMT)
Check out the Japanese site for videos of some (cute) japanese girls playing the game. It's their video diaries called "My life with Nintendogs!".

I even caught a glimpse of one of the little guys answering the call of nature.

:P

Anyway, I've pre-ordered the U.S. Version off Play-Asia, so I'll get it around September 1st - 7th, a whole 3 weeks before you guys! Mwahahahahah :P

I ordered Lab & Friends for the Shiba, btw.

Congratulatious Metallix. You're 6 months behind.

_MetalliX_ - August 13, 2005 11:28 AM (GMT)
...and yet still as hilarious as the day it was posted.

Its kind of hypocritical considering it was you who bumped the thread in the first place. I think it may not be me who is behind... :whistling:

I bumped it because I had preordered Nintendogs, and wanted to get some discussion going, with about a month and a half before it's release :P

borgster101 - August 14, 2005 04:53 AM (GMT)
Yeah its a justified bump, but also that was a funny comment by Civ.

_MetalliX_ - August 14, 2005 08:30 AM (GMT)
...and considering it was not only my first time into this thread, but this part of the forum, it was a justified response, thereby placing Eyce's response into the category of useless spam.

Anywhoo, I looked at that flash animation, this game looks alot like a tamagotchi, I ripped out the buttons of my tamagotchi and snapped the circuit board because it would shut up.

BrotherEstapol - August 16, 2005 10:24 AM (GMT)
If anyone is interested, we have a Nintendogs demo on the DS kiosk at work(Target) now. So if you want to have play of it, I suggest you find your nearest in-store DS unit. :)

borgster101 - August 16, 2005 12:01 PM (GMT)
Cool, that would be something to check out :) .

Eyce - August 17, 2005 07:37 AM (GMT)
Is it good Estapol? :P

borgster101 - August 20, 2005 09:51 AM (GMT)
Reviews have now been posted at IGN and Gamespot and from the looks of it, it's a very good game :) .

Eyce - August 21, 2005 01:50 AM (GMT)
Played Demo, dogs reacted to voice, people looked at me speaking to a silver object; I ran.

borgster101 - August 21, 2005 11:54 PM (GMT)
 The DS has it's share of embarassing ways to play in public, i.e. talking to the DS, blowing into the DS etc..

dave_cool31 - August 22, 2005 05:43 AM (GMT)
Thanks for the heads up Estapol, I'll try to keep an eye out for any DS kiosks I see.

I've had my eye on this game for a while now, it looks really good, now all I've gotta do is decide which version to get.

So who's going to preorder this game? And what version do you think you'll get? At the moment I'm still tossing up between the three versions but I think I'll probably get either Chihuahua and Friends or Daschund and Friends...

Or Lab and Friends... >_> :P

Melbourne, Australia, August 30th 2005 – Nintendogs for Nintendo DS, has become a pop-culture phenomenon in Japan and will now be available in Australia on September 22nd 2005, for the fantastic suggested retail price of $A49.95.

$50 that is pretty good for a DS game available on launch, although I hope they do the same to all games now.
