Pokémon Company's Eizo Nakano has let Pikachu out of the bag and announced when Pokémon Diamond and Pearl will launch.

Eizo Nakano, in the latest edition of Japanese publication Nihon Keizai Shimbun, revealed that Pokémon Diamond and Pearl will launch over in Japan on the Nintendo DS in November 2005. Going off this a US release should be expected around March 2006 and Europe soon after.

I'm guessing the battle options and stats will be on the touch screen, while we get some kick-arse battle animations on the top. :P

Although I haven't played any Pokémon games since Silver, I think I'd pick this one up. :)

Hmm, we usually get Pokémon games before, or very close to the US dates don't we?
March looks good. :)

Fyuusii - February 23, 2005 08:10 AM (GMT)
Well there was a 9 month wait between the Japanese and Western releases of Fire Red/Leaf Green and the same looks to be shaping up for Emerald (had been out in Japan since September, bah!).

It's a looooooong-arse wait... :(

By the way, battle animations will be making a return in Emerald. Plus, there'll also be tournament modes suitable for anywhere up to 4 or even 8 players I hear, these should keep the Pokémaniacs busy (i.e: me). :)

These DS versions could have some significant changes :)

Manny M - February 23, 2005 08:59 PM (GMT)
They could, but I really doubt it.

You're probably only going to get the usual pokemon game on the bottom screen, and stats on the top screen.

Of course, that's the pessimist in me talking.

Why would it be on the bottom? You'd have stats and options on the bottom so you can use the touch screen. :P

I watching the Nintendo E3-04 confrence again a while back, and one of the developers who was really looking forward to using the touch screen effectivly was Game Freak, the developer of the Pokemon games. :)

I know it won't be anything revolutionary, but I think it could be the proper update we've been waiting for. :)

borgster101 - February 25, 2005 02:41 AM (GMT)
Yeah the guy at Gamefreak mentioned that processes that involved complicated operating systems, could be far more player friendly using touch pannels.

Stuff like, accessing menus, typing and the like can be simplified greatly.

All i'd want is a 2D Pokemon with changes to take advantage of the DS' features.
So far 3D Pokemon games have varied from craptastic to average.

That's what I'm expecting. :)

A 2d pokemon game just like the GB ones, but taking advantage of the features of the DS.

I'm hoping to see some really nice animations though.(ala Four Swords on the GCN).

Hmm, I was playing Fire Red the other day and was thinking how Pokemon would work well on the DS.
The Wireless link should be faster than the GBA one too, one thing that really gets on my nerves is waiting for the attack to load. >_<
Typing on the bottom screen would be cool too ^_^
They could even bring back the letters from gold and silver, you could draw on them an everything! That would be sweet. :P
I'm expecting nice 2D animation and being able to walk diagonally aswell. :)

<_<

Wouldn't it be better to have the game on the bottom, so you can pop wheelies on your bike with the stylus ;)

Gio - March 1, 2005 05:45 AM (GMT)
There should be an option to switch screens!
<_<

The world really needs a Pokemon game on Nintendo DS just like Super Mario 64 DS. By that I mean the graphics (boot up the game and just look at Mario looking at the environment outside the castle- fantastic for Pokemon) should be lik SM64DS, and maybe even the bottom screen should have a mini map of the town you are in, as well as small pictures of the Pokemon you are carrying.

I'd die for this kind of game.

I doubt the DS' graphical capabilities could dish out anything close to an expansive world fit for the Pokémon universe.

With no showing of these games at E3, 'tis gonna be a loooong wait still. In the meantime, I'm enjoying my imported copy of Emerald. :)

Seeing this thread title has made me think of Prince.

Diamonds and Pearls!!

dave_cool31 - June 24, 2005 10:10 AM (GMT)
I'd really like to see what this game turns out like - it would be SO awesome if it's in full 3D...

No, it wouldn't be awesome. We'd just see Nintendo re-use the same damn Pokémon Stadium polygons for the umpteenth time. That'd kill the immersion pretty quickly.

JJJames7 - September 28, 2005 09:50 AM (GMT)
Bump.

Not related to Diamond/Pearl, but there's a Pokemon DS game set to release pretty soon in Japan. You play the role as a human who has been transformed into a Pokemon, and your goal is to find out who transformed you. This means that you get to talk to pokemon and stuff.

ironman - August 25, 2006 02:52 AM (GMT)
user posted image OOOOOH YEEEAAAHH! I may be 15 but ill still play pokemon games and not tell anyone! I'm getting this one.

NismoR34 - August 25, 2006 04:43 PM (GMT)
Not telling anyone is still pathetic as far as I am concerned.

If you enjoy doing something, damn well say so! Who gives a shit what people think?

I mean, I am 18 and I still enjoy playing Pokemon. What's the big deal exactly?

ironman - August 26, 2006 06:10 AM (GMT)
Dog, I have friends who hate video games. We play basketball games occaisonally and maybe a little Soper Smash Bros. but no Pokemon. We usually play basketball outside allday. not much video games.

NismoR34 - August 26, 2006 05:32 PM (GMT)
So what if they don't play videogames?

Still shouldn't ever be embarrassed in liking something. If you are then you're just letting influence control your life rather than your own individuality.

ironman - August 27, 2006 05:20 AM (GMT)
naw id rather hide the fact that i love pokemon games. i have a rreputation at school.

But with a reputation like yours if you said you liked Pokemon, then everyone would like it, right? :P

My brother's 27 and he's not afraid of telling people that he likes playing Pokemon (GBA/DS games only) and Magic cards. My friend who's 23 admits it, I'm 24 and I admit it so why should it matter with you (ironman) being 15?

Maybe everyone in your class secretly likes Pokemon but are also afraid to admit it unless someone else speaks up first. It's like a discussion I once had with some friends in primary school involving Nicklodeon's show Rugrats, where I brought the topic up saying how awesome it was, then 1 guy laughed and said it was crap, but all the other guys started agreeing with me and eventually the one who'd gave negative feedback at the start also admitted because before he thought he was being cool at first for ditching it

See where I'm going with this? (besides going completely off the topic)

BrotherEstapol - August 27, 2006 12:13 PM (GMT)
Wasn't an issue with me and my mate's back in high school in the old Red/Blue/Yellow pokemon glory days.
Hell, we'd all even watch the cartoons in the morning.
Funny thing was that I was eaily the nerdiest in my group, which was mostly made up of sporty people. (I wasn't in the nerdy group fraid to say ;))

I think the main reason was since everyone had seemed to have played the game at one stage or another, and thus knew how addictive it was.

R3AP3R - August 28, 2006 10:00 PM (GMT)
i reckon everyone who now says that Pokemon sucks has more than likely played and loved the games in the past.

g1ggy - August 28, 2006 10:54 PM (GMT)
yeah, then they entered puberty, and realised Pokegirls are ugly :P

still, I like the games :D

ironman - August 29, 2006 03:12 AM (GMT)
Look people in Cali are waaay different than in Austrailia(sorry if its spelled incorrectly). Youre considered a nerd if you sit up and play video games like pokemon and stufff. Im no nerd, so I hide my secret obsession for games. Games like GTA Madden Live are cool, but kiddy games arent(to people that are at my school.).

I stand by my point, you are letting influence dictate what you do and don't reveal about yourself as a person. You shouldn't be ashamed by what you do or do not like and you shouldn't let the possibility of someone else's thoughts being different to your own, affect your choices in life or what you like (or are) as a person. Comparing country culture has nothing to do with it by the way. Sure, Australians are different to Americans and vice-versa but I can assure you that Australia have people similar to you, people who are afraid of revealing something that they like incase it changes someone else's perception. Put simply, don't give a shit about what other people think. If these people think differently of you because you happen to enjoy something they don't, 'kiddy' or otherwise then they aren't worth your time. This is something you will learn over time though, more than anything.

Oh, by the way, you are a nerd (or rather, a geek) if you play video games regularly. Moreso considering that you're posting on a video game forum as well. Disagree with me all you want, the fact is that nerd or otherwise you are doing something that you enjoy and that's all that matters. Nerd is after all just a stereotype so you shouldn't have a problem with it and it certainly shouldn't ever affect something you do in life.

g1ggy - August 29, 2006 10:20 PM (GMT)
You aren't a nerd just because you play video games, you are a nerd if that's what you let other people call you, and think of you.

And by your logic, NismoR34, you are also a nerd!

Actually Australia isn't all that different mate, I'm a nerd, you're a nerd, we're ALL nerds!!! :P

In Australia if you play games all day, you would be considered a nerd. But its all crap, when you get out of school you'll realise that there's more to life that worrying about what others think, the sad truth is some people continue to worry about what others think for the rest of their lives.

Many of us would have experienced something similar to what you have while they were at school, now I'm at uni (or college for you guys) and all that crap just doesnt matter anymore.

As am I, and I'm still in school where the "nerd" calls are loudest!

ironman - August 31, 2006 01:34 AM (GMT)
Uuuuuum........... okay.

R3AP3R - August 31, 2006 10:02 PM (GMT)
ironman got owned! I too am a nerd and proud of it. I mean nerd simply refers to the person as smart so technically people are calling you smart when they call you a nerd.

g1ggy - September 1, 2006 02:13 AM (GMT)
yeah, which is odd when you aren't actually smart :P

don't worry, I know him personally

ironman - September 1, 2006 03:13 AM (GMT)
No I'm smart. I make A's. I'm a grde ahead of myself but I'm tall so kids dont know.

R3AP3R - September 1, 2006 04:16 AM (GMT)
hes saying im not smart not you ironman.

BrotherEstapol - September 1, 2006 07:03 AM (GMT)
Isn't the US education system under fire at the moment for teachers giving students false high grades so as to raise the schools standard scores and thus giving the school a better chance of more students enrolling, cause parents will look at the school's score and say "wow, they's gots smart kids there, lets enroll our child there!"

*takes breath*

That was a big sentence
