Title: CSI NY
Description: How many spinoffs can they make?
Stevorooni - February 23, 2005 12:15 AM (GMT)
Well I watched CSI: NY last night and found myself thinking "This is exactly the same as the other 2 series, except they've shuffled the race and sex of who does what job, and everyone has brooklyn accents."
Why did they make a new series? How many times can we be entertained by someone lifting finger prints and spraying for blood? Can we honestly believe that people who work for the crime lab do the interviewing and run the entire case, with the actual police just pointing out where a crime happened?
I can't wait for CSI:Adelaide.
Or they should do a CSI:Mount Thomas to help the blue heelers out. That place is crime central. It already has 3 times the number of cops a small country town usually has.
What does eveyone else think of the CSI series?

Hate it nowdays. It has become so overrated it is not funny and this has consequently brought about two exactly the same spinoffs.

It's occasionally interesting and sometimes a little entertaining (Like the part where the CSI woman lied about the victim being stabbed in order to get a confession out of the dodgy pizza parlour owner) but I don't think there's really a good enough reason to have different series running at the same time when all that seems to be different is the location.
Though I've probably not liked CSI as much lately, mainly ever since Grissom went around with that awful nine o'clock shadow.

Well as unrealistic as it may seem, the show would get a bit boring if all they did was sit around in the lab testing stuff.

I never liked the show. The acting's crap, and a 2 year old could work out what happened. I like Stevo's idea of CSI: Mt Thomas, though, because Tom Croydon would look better in the dark, than the country light, and also, because of the update in technology, the Blue Heelers would be able to solve their crimes quicker. There's nothing worse than an angry John Wood, when PJ aint solving shit quick enough.

CSI: Miami is my favourite. I didn't bother watching NY, and I don't like Alias anymore, same with 24.
Watching: Lost, Survivor: Palau, The Simpsons.
Looking forward to: The Contender. I'm not a huge boxing fan, but some of those boys have hot bods! :woot: :P And Sly is cool.

It is, quite simply flogging a cash cow. Soon it'll turn into a dead horse.

Apparently, according to Channel 9, four times a week. CSI, the two spin-offs and then a CSI repeat. It's simple really and relates back to my first point as to why CSI is on four times a week.
Channel 7, in the first two weeks has scared the absolute hell out of Channel 9, both weeks finishing less then 2 points behind 9 in Melbourne ratings. Thus, Channel 9 have to fall back to one of their big guns to gain the ratings points, CSI is a proven matchwinner, therefore it is shown where needed.
Another point to back up my original points. Last night, Channel 9 aired episode 9, instead of the pilot where the main Miami guy (Caruso) introduces us to the New York guy (Sinese) as episode was a strong episode, where the pilot was deemed too weak for a first showing, which means Channel 9 are worried. They are going for the huge guns to try and knock off Channel 7

Hopefully an overload of US crime shows won't last very long, look what happened when all stations when crazy with reality programs.
KickyFunkFresh - February 23, 2005 09:19 AM (GMT)
I still like the original. Miami sucks now that Speed's been killed off. And New York just plain sucks.
Surely they could've thought of a much more interesting place to set it.

Gary Sinise, as one of the coolest actor's around, deserves better. He's just a cool bastard and should be on some awesome show, not another CSI.

Oh I agree there, that was a bummer.
I still watch it occasionally though, it was the only CSI I ever really watched. Plus it has Emily Proctor... :dance3:
As for CSI: NY, well I'm not interested. I may watch a few episodes here and there, but I'm not going to go out of my way to watch the show.

It'll be interesting to see if people ally themselves to one franchise or spread themselves out across the three, as essentially they are all identical...

CSI: Luna Park. Forensics for a hurl new world.
(we may dream)

OMG. I didn't mind shows like these* before (infact, I used to enjoy the odd Law and Order episode), but now I absolutely hate and despise them... THERE'S TOO MANY OF THEM AND THEY'RE ALL THE SAME! I find that Wednesdays are the worse days to watch TV.
Ok, let's see how many of these shows there:
CSI
CSI: NY
CSI: Miami
NCIS (soon there's going to be Navy NCIS)
Third Watch
ER
Crossing Jordan
Medical Investigation
Law and Order
Law and Order: Special Victims Unit
Law & Order: Criminal Intent
Judging Amy
The Practise
That's 13! And I'm sure there's more! That's way too many for my liking... infesting my TV >_>. I am totally suprised that they actually do so well in the ratings.
*How actually would you define them?
[DZ] - February 25, 2005 03:56 AM (GMT)
All that, and they don't even have 30 minutes a week for Futurama. Its a sad, sad world we live in.
BrotherEstapol - February 25, 2005 06:19 AM (GMT)
I'm so happy that Channel 10 have picked up Battlestar Gallactica, as I really don't want to hear that stupid Law & Order voice-over twat every night. You can never have too muhc Sci-Fi. :)
Only downside is that they schedualed it at the same time as the Glasshouse. :(
But for the record, I like Medical Investigation(even though they have a shonky post production team) and NCIS. :)

"In the criminal justice system, the people are represented by two separate yet equally important groups - the police who investigate crime, and the district attorneys who prosecute the offenders. These are their stories."
"In New York City's war on crime, the worst criminal offenders are pursued by the detectives of the Major Case Squad. These are their stories."
"In the criminal justice system, sexually based offenses are considered especially heinous. In New York City, the dedicated detectives who investigate these vicious felonies are members of an elite squad known as the Special Victims Unit. These are their stories." <- I like how the guy says 'heinous'. Funnily enough, this is probably the show I hate least.
:P

sooo... how is a show like ER the same as the other shows you listed?
Mykle - February 26, 2005 02:19 AM (GMT)
Where's the variety?
All shows are now crap sitcoms, law dramas, medical dramas or reality TV. Arrested Development gets no free to air showings, meanwhile.
h&r - February 26, 2005 04:27 AM (GMT)
Anyone recall Law & Order's old days as that two-bit-piss-flat-slot-filler-not-worth-a-glance-during-an-ad-break that nobody gave a decimal point of shit about?
I loved the old days.
jawbreaker982 - February 26, 2005 05:44 AM (GMT)
At least CSI hasn't asked the viewers to decide how an episode ends yet. I've heard of market research but that is ridiculous. It's, like, so lazy that it reeks of effort.

Antone watch Drew Carey? Best comdey ever.
Hello - February 27, 2005 08:53 PM (GMT)
Is Drew Carey in CSI: New York? I enjoy watching that fat guy, so I might give CSI a look.
