Title: If you owned a radio station...
Description: What would be the first song you'd play?

Dorepoll - February 21, 2005 05:00 AM (GMT)
I wouldn't play a single, just to show that this Dore FM would have street cred. Also, something to weird the hell out of people would be cool.

So my final choice is Fantomas - Page

Film Guru - February 21, 2005 05:25 AM (GMT)
Africa by Toto. Can't lose with that. :P

But if I had a radio station I'd make it so it played nothing but backing music from films.

[m]averick - February 21, 2005 05:37 AM (GMT)
You Shook Me All Night Long - AC/DC.

Let the fans know this ain't no pissy radio station, this is the real deal.

Mykle - February 21, 2005 05:55 AM (GMT)
Beastie Boys - Intergalactic

It'd be a cool way to set the mood.

Then I'd follow up with White Flag - Dido

adam_91vn - February 21, 2005 08:06 AM (GMT)
Good Topic

Definitely Africa - Toto

Then Mars Volta – the widow

Hello - February 21, 2005 08:09 AM (GMT)
Helter Skelter by The Beatles:- To show that my station plays good, popular music, but not the same old tired bull shit. See, I could've played Yesterday, as my first song, but that's been on repeat for the past 35 years, so I chose Helter Skelter because it rocks and isn't the same old shit.

[DZ] - February 21, 2005 08:12 AM (GMT)
Jpop all the way!!! :uberdance:

markymark - February 21, 2005 08:17 AM (GMT)
easy by faith no more... because it's the best cover of all time :D

KickyFunkFresh - February 21, 2005 08:42 AM (GMT)
DJ Kikz's choice is QotSA : Six Shooter

:)

HAI! ^_^

Though a JPop only station would probably have to diversify to also include CPop, KPop and other varieties of asiain pop methinks.

As for which song I'd play first, I'd probably go for Kujibiki Unbalance by UNDER 17 or perhaps Scramble by Horie Yui with Unscramble. Wait, no, I'd go with Scramble.

Stevorooni - February 21, 2005 11:10 AM (GMT)
The first song on Stevo:FM would be the theme song to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles cartoon ( the old one, not the new crappy one ).

I like Film Guru's idea from backing music from films

Cubeoid - February 21, 2005 11:30 AM (GMT)
Well given my taste in music the first song I would play would probably be Demon of The Fall by Opeth to attract the kind of listeners I would be after and to scare away anyone else. :P

Shit yeah, that is such an underrated fantastic song. Charlie Manson had great taste....

Gnomey_g - February 21, 2005 05:01 PM (GMT)
Cataclysmic Nihilism by Anaal Nathrakh, since they're one of the most extreme metal bands around, and this song would surely blow unsuspecting listeners minds, and ear drums.

Surashu - February 21, 2005 05:03 PM (GMT)
Stairway To Heaven for sure. Lots of people have at least heard it, so I couldnt go wrong.

Manny M - February 21, 2005 08:49 PM (GMT)
There goes a good half of your show ;)

I'd play that song from Oliver, "consider yourself, at home. Consider yourself, one of the family..."

[DZ] - February 21, 2005 09:54 PM (GMT)
No, I've changed my mind, If I had a raidio station, it would be one of those stations that read the time exactly to the milisecond! :P

"03 hours, 42 minutes, and...2 seconds. 03 hours, 42 minutes, and... 5 seconds. 03 hours, 42 minutes, and... 8 seconds. 03 hours, 42 minutes, and... 11 seconds. 03 hours, 42 minutes, and... 14 seconds. 03 hours, 42 minutes, and......"

*cut to commercial*
*2 mins later"

"03 hours, 44 minutes, and... 6 seconds..."

:P

Film Guru - February 21, 2005 11:56 PM (GMT)
C'mon peoples! Africa! By Toto! How can I be the only one?! :P

[DZ] - February 22, 2005 01:08 AM (GMT)
TOTO suck ass. :P Old bastards!

Iroquois - February 22, 2005 03:10 AM (GMT)
The Happiest Days of Our Lives and Another Brick in the Wall (Part 2) - Pink Floyd.

Tony Soprano, on the 1st page, said he'd play that song, as well. I think it's the devil's music - that's why I wouldn't play it.

great. thanks manny... that's going to be in my head all day now.

jawbreaker982 - February 26, 2005 05:39 AM (GMT)
Have to go with a balls out rocker that has some serious edge to it. Atreyu, me thinks. Start with the Blood Children instrumental intro and let it rip straight into Bleeding Mascara. Couldn't think of a better start.

Gio - February 26, 2005 12:17 PM (GMT)
Heh, my friend likes Atreyu, he's even seeing them play live.

The first song I would play would be Chop Suey! by System of a Down then I'd follow it up with Between Angels and Insects by Papa Roach.

Film Guru - February 27, 2005 01:04 AM (GMT)
Well, since it's kind of related, my radio show should be starting back up again. We've moved to Mondays now and it goes from 6pm to 8pm and sometimes a little later. If anyone wants to hear it click here.

Eyce - February 27, 2005 01:32 AM (GMT)
Is it on tomorrow?

If it is, wish meh a happy b/day :P

Film Guru - February 27, 2005 01:52 AM (GMT)
I already mentioned you tons on the show last year.

"Eyce Eyce baby!" :P

eggman - March 4, 2005 12:53 PM (GMT)
I'd have a electro-goth/Industrial station where Metal gets a fair bit of airplay during the day as well. First song I'd play would be Covenant's (not the Kovenant for those metal heads I'm confusing) Call the Ships to Port. :D

Moggo - March 4, 2005 11:09 PM (GMT)
If I owned a radio station, I'd drive a dump truck of money up to Mick Molloy's house and force him to be on my station for 18 hours a day, spouting his champagne comedy continually.

Why is the quality so bad? There's a constant static/crackle in the background.

I'd drive a dumptruck of money up to the house of many scientists and get them to revive the late great Rodney Dangerfield and get him to be on my radio station 19 hours a day.

Sybatical - March 5, 2005 01:56 AM (GMT)
Pantera - Domination

or

Black Sabbath - Iron Man.

Woah! That's not usually there.

Our show doesn't make that static noise, so don't worry about that...

Wow and here I was thinking it was the radio frequency making that noise...

h&r - March 5, 2005 07:13 AM (GMT)
My station, Ignorance FMinate, broadcasts a high-frequency, ambient whine, 24/7, with Extra-Decibel Mondays to boot.

You shan't need to worry about that for too much longer... his wife has apparently frozen his DNA from items in his house and is speaking to a DNA cloning doctor who is negotiating with them to grow another Rodney Dangerfield. Can't wait. :dance3:

Until then, Mick Molloy for 18 hours a day will do just fine.

h&r - March 5, 2005 08:57 AM (GMT)
Molloy's never been that cool without Martin - it's like having chloride without the sodium: semi-amusing smarm but nothing dynamically funny. Actually, Martin's one line as Bowls Club PA Dude made Crackerjack (that tired Australiana shitbox) worth the hundred minutes.

Moggo - March 5, 2005 03:00 PM (GMT)
Tony Martin joined Micky last Monday for a one-off special. It was tear-jerkingly wondrous. It did remind me of the halcygon days of Martin/Molloy, and how desperate I am for a return to those days.

It's on the cards, apparently. ;)
