Title: Desperate Housewives
Description: Season 2, screens Monday 8.40pm.

Channel Seven have been whoring the show to the extreme and it has only been in the last week or so that I've really become interested and curious as to how it will turn out. Apparently it is doing fantastic over in both the US and UK and seems to offer some quality drama with some excellent comedy bits. This, plus Lost, may offer the big ratings that Seven so desperately need when it comes to the drama show stakes. I'm looking forward to both shows simply because I'm sick of all the crime bullshit that is on television at the moment.

Anyway I just wondered if anybody else was looking forward to its premiere? (Tomorrow, 8:30pm)

NismoR34 - January 30, 2005 02:36 PM (GMT)
While Lost will definitely be getting more of my attention than Desperate Housewives, I still think Desperate Housewives looks pretty damn sweet. I'm eagerly awaiting tonight's (it's 1:36am) premiere and I shall be back with impressions after it's finished. Now I just have to hope that I don't miss the damn show...

What exactly is the show about and how does it work?

The title sounds more like an amatuer porn website.

From today's Herald-Sun:- "Picture a slightly older Sex and the City - but in the 'burbs - with a touch of Bold and the Beautiful-style soap escapism and Six Feet Under's darkness and you have this exciting new drama. It instantly draws you in with its engaging characters and over-the-topness most dramas are too cool to deal in".

Plus it stars the bonerific Teri Hatcher.

I don't trust the hype, and just because it's popular in the US doesn't mean it's good, but I'll still give it a shot.

[m]averick - January 31, 2005 12:30 AM (GMT)
I'm all for hype, so if I'm bored with nothing to do, I'll give it a shot. Hope its decent, something on Channel 7 being good would be a refreshing change

borgster101 - January 31, 2005 01:11 AM (GMT)
My mum wants to watch it, so I'll probably see it tonight.

Gio - January 31, 2005 05:40 AM (GMT)
That title is very misleading. :P

Sweating Bullets - January 31, 2005 09:13 AM (GMT)
This show kicks major ass imo.

I quite like it.

h&r - January 31, 2005 09:49 AM (GMT)
Needs more funny. Incidentally, also needs more black.

edit~ It's like a serialised Disney flick trying to be risque. The contrived narration paves everything out to astounding conspicuity (that voice's gorgeous, however) and frankly, what the hell's so engaging about picket-fence intrigue? It's a pretty tepid concept to begin with.

NismoR34 - January 31, 2005 01:41 PM (GMT)
Wasn't as enjoyable as I thought it would be but perhaps I just had too much expectation of the show. I did enjoy it though and I'll be watching the next few episodes to find out whether I like it or not. It has an encore screening tomorrow night at 9:30pm, for those who missed it.
I'll be watching it again actually. :)

Oh, and the 'view' is rather nice...

~DC - January 31, 2005 01:44 PM (GMT)
I liked it, athough like Nismo felt it fell a short of my inital expectations. I'll definitely keep tuning in nevertheless as it was really only an introduction and not much was revealed story-wise.

[DZ] - January 31, 2005 08:38 PM (GMT)
Damn, I missed that last night. I watched StarStruck and went straight to bed after that. I'll watch it tonight. Hopefully, the show will be more like Queer Folk, I want sex seens. MILF!!! [/pervert]

MILF!!! [/pervert]

That was the best thing about. Although, under some lighting, Teri Hatcher's face looked like she was going on 60.

I enjoyed it - a good, non-British mystery has been missing from tele. However, the quirky and wacky bits seemed forced, and were just that little bit too over-the-top. The thing with Twin Peaks, was that it was subtle "wackiness", in the most part, and not completely stupid - that's what I enjoyed about it. The quirky scenes in Desperate Housewives don't really leave you with a smile on your face, but more so an annoying look of, "What the fuck?!". Even so, I'll be tuning in next week as the plot goes a bit deepers, and shit starts to go down. Still, there's only so many times somebody can burn down a house, or die, or bone the neighbours etc before it becomes really, really dull and crap...

borgster101 - February 1, 2005 11:50 AM (GMT)
Enjoyable show, some familar domestic humour, the Stepford wife is 'similar' to my mum (although my mum isnt that crazy), which provided some great laughs between us whilst watching :) . There's also an interesting plot that has only begun to scratch the surface in this first episode, will continue to watch with interest :) .

Moggo - February 1, 2005 02:28 PM (GMT)
I watched it and really enjoyed it. I found it fairly original and at some points laugh-out-loud funny. The scene in which the young bitch bolted back home and mowed the lawn so the husband wouldn't give the gardener the arse was particulary chuckle-worthy.

I normally run a mile from these types of shows, but I'll be watching this one in the future, methinks. It looks interesting, the storylines are intriguing, the characters are engaging and if the way they go on about it in the US is any indication, it sounds as though it goes from strength to strength as the season progresses.

Sweating Bullets - February 2, 2005 12:24 AM (GMT)
It gets quite better with the later eps....

h&r - February 2, 2005 12:52 PM (GMT)
Think I'll follow Bullets's lead and relegate a later episode or two to bandwidth mercy.

I can't kill babies. Not least in their infancy.

Moggo - February 7, 2005 03:02 PM (GMT)
It definitly got better this week. The main storyline between Susan and Edie fighting over that bloke is easily the most entertaining aspect of the show, but it seems as though it's going to take a back-seat for the moment.

The other stroylines are all great as well. It's one of the only shows where I really feel depressed towards the end of it, because I realise there's a whole new week to go until I see another episode.

Can't wait for next week. So far, I'm very impressed. Susan's daughter's very boneable too, regardless of the shape of her face.

NismoR34 - February 7, 2005 03:13 PM (GMT)
Yep I'm with you Moggo, the second episode was a lot better than the first and I'm now going to continue watching it.
The only part I dislike currently is the mother with the 3 annoying kids. Hopefully that aspect of the show proves to be more entertaining as the show continues on.

Although it brings up a good question, how many people actually have a parent that will leave their kids behind? ;)

jawbreaker982 - February 10, 2005 09:00 AM (GMT)
I thought the first episode was pretty good, but it fell short of what I was expecting due to the unrealistic expectations heaped on it. Twin Peaks meets American Beauty? Please. This couldn't carry Special Agent Dale Cooper's jock strap.

The second episode was a bit of a step backwards. I'm willing to give it time but.

borgster101 - February 10, 2005 11:10 AM (GMT)
I'll certainly continue to watch the show it has a nice mix of humour and mystery.

~DC - February 17, 2005 08:29 AM (GMT)
Just wanted to say that episode five is when the storyline really kicks into gear. A lot of the mysteries are finally fleshed out in more detail and the show definitely benefits from it.

h&r - February 17, 2005 08:56 AM (GMT)
Media discrimination is a fucking good thing.

Editors certainly wouldn't hold out to page five of this manuscript.

Selcric - April 19, 2005 09:03 AM (GMT)
Hm... I guess I'm of the possible few here that think this show as too dramatic and overpraised (like The OC).

~DC - April 19, 2005 11:15 AM (GMT)
I kinda tuned out around episode seven or so.

NismoR34 - April 19, 2005 05:08 PM (GMT)
I'm still watching and enjoying the show. Guess I'm the only one eh?

jawbreaker982 - April 20, 2005 01:02 AM (GMT)
I'm still watching most weeks, but more out of habit than any profound love for the series.

borgster101 - April 20, 2005 03:39 AM (GMT)
I've been watching it weekly, it's an enjoyable hour :)

Silph - April 20, 2005 12:15 PM (GMT)
I find the show pretty enjoyable. That, and Marcia Cross is hot.

Hello - April 21, 2005 08:47 AM (GMT)
Teri Hatcher was damn hot in Monday night's ep. Still, the show shits me. It's a soap opera, and a boring one at that. Give me The OC. The narrator eats balls, too.

~DC - April 21, 2005 09:08 AM (GMT)
I dunno, the O.C. is pretty shit too.

NismoR34 - April 21, 2005 03:44 PM (GMT)
Pfft. <_<

I do have one criticism with Desperate Housewives at the moment though and that is that they are taking their time to reveal anything special. It is dragging on a bit but it still an enjoyable show. :)

Sounds like Lost, not that I watch either, this is just what I've heard from media and from friends. Lost, especially takes ages for anything to happen.

NismoR34 - April 22, 2005 02:22 PM (GMT)
Lost is different though in that it still gives hints (even subtle ones) and still has thrilling moments throughout the show. Some of the scenes in Desperate Housewives are just pointless and unfortunately they are taking too long to reveal anything special. It is an enjoyable show and I'll continue to watch it but they could have done so much more with it...

borgster101 - February 6, 2006 05:41 AM (GMT)
Season 2 starts tonight at 8.40pm on Channel 7 for anyone that's interested :)

I quite enjoyed the first season, so it'll be interesting to see where it goes from here.

_MetalliX_ - February 6, 2006 06:22 AM (GMT)
I'll be watching tonight, mostly just to answer a few questions the first season left me with. The show has its good parts (Eva Longoria) and an interesting running plot.

As for Teri Hatcher, she is just not hot, I'm not saying she is ugly, but she is definitely NOT hot. Its mostly because of those droopy eyes. Eva Longoria on the other hand, is the reason I started to watch in the first place. :P

Yes, well isn't that why most males of these forums are watching the show.

Well I watched a bit, but missed out on the first 15min or so, only got home when it started and had to make dinner. But it was a good way to return, actually solving a few questions, and the ending made it pretty easy to decide who was chained up.

NismoR34 - February 6, 2006 01:41 PM (GMT)
Well I certainly had my guess as to who it was too, but then this is Desperate Housewives. Almost anything can happen.

For the first 30 minutes or so I must say that I was a little confused. Well, confused isn't the word but I definitely had to think twice with certain things but I think that is just because I had forgotten some of the plots. By the end of the hour though I was 'with it' and I was also feeling great because the show proved once again just how good it can be. For me to be confused and then to come off loving it again within just an hour certainly suggests something. Well to me at least.
Yeah, top episode so I can't wait for next week's.

In unrelated news, I'm pissed off that Top Gear ended early.

borgster101 - February 7, 2006 02:47 AM (GMT)
Yeah it was a good episode, it'll be interesting to see where the show goes from here with the new neigbours...

Having Marcia Cross change her husbands tie during the funeral was pretty funny
