Title: Juiced
Description: Back with a vengence.

January 26, 2005 - Here's a little story for you. Last summer IGN attained the exclusive review for Juiced, and the day I was supposed to review it, I called Acclaim to double check some facts. Little did I know but the company didn't exist anymore. The Friday before employees had been told to go home, and there was absolutely nobody to let me know what do to, not to mention the fact that the review was mute. Why review a game that didn't have a publisher? I sunk about 15 hours into the game to find out it may never see the light of day.
Luckily, Juiced was the sole game to make it out alive from Acclaim's last travesty. Thanks to THQ's acquisition, the development team behind Juiced was able to take time to tweak, enhance, and improve all aspects of the powerful street racer. Now due in May on Xbox, PS2 and PC, Juiced is a beautiful, well-balanced game with deep customization features, a superb framerate (especially for the Xbox and PC), and a well-thought out team development system and challenging AI.
In the five months since its near death, the Juiced developers re-did the front end, creating a more visually impressive menu system, sped up the sleeker, faster set of cars (adding the new Beetle, the RX8, and the Ford Focus SVT in the process), and balanced all the 53 vehicles, so that all are drivable. I was surprised to see how much better the game looked and played today, as the game was spruced up with bloom lighting, high detailed cars, better framerates and overall better sounds. Expect the soundtrack to be completely different from the original one as well.
Juiced comprises a career mode, arcade mode, and an online mode for all systems. The arcade mode is now more robust with 55 races to work through, each series consisting of five races, and each win rewarding gamers with new courses and cars.
One of the unique elements to THQ's racer is players' ability to bet against AI opponents (as well as real life opponents online) and potentially earn much dinero to upgrade or stylize their vehicles. Online, players can race for pink slips, meaning that you will either win another online players' customized, pimped out ride, or you'll lose you very own beautiful ride, which you may have spend hours making. Of course, you don't have to race for pink slips, but the challenge is there if you want it. |

This game is certainly looking alot better than it did last year, and in more ways than one. :D

That looks absolutely amazinng! Move over Burnout 3? Move over NFSU2? We hope, eh? :P We need a new arcade racer.

Is there a car-list available anywhere? 53 cars is huge, this game could be rubbish and i would still get it just for 53 cars.

Looking very nice, although i'm starting to wonder if i'm already over the whole car modification thing.

Yeah, at the end of the day, its all about the powerslides! :P

Ha Ha. A 300ZX, my life is complete.
This is the one car I really wanted to see in a tuner game, and know I can have it....
Mwahahahahahaha...
NismoR34 - January 30, 2005 03:38 PM (GMT)
Wow this game has changed hasn't it?! :o
I must say, giving the developers more time with the game was a wise idea on THQ's part, instead of just releasing the final version that Acclaim had.
I must say, I can't wait to give this title a run. Especially after the slightly disappointing NFSU 2...

But that's driving sim, this is a arcade racer, and a customisable one at that.
Imagine if all the GT4 cars had options for skirts and neons. :P
[DZ] - February 16, 2005 10:33 PM (GMT)
Yeah, and there's also a damage engine in Juiced which takes up a fair amount of space.

Hmm, it's looking nicer than NFSU2 but not BO3. Plus it doesn't run anywhere near as fast as BO3.
Nice to see the Civic is there instead of a shitty Corsa. (damn you EA!)

How do you know that?
They haven't relased any footage of the new version yet.
dave_cool31 - February 17, 2005 07:02 AM (GMT)
I guess you're right about it being a lot for an arcade racer you can't really compare arcade racers and racing simulations... But still 700+ cars is whopping, arcade racer or not... And you can mod the cars in GT4... Not sure if you put neons, bodykits and such on but you can mod the innards... Juiced is looking pretty awesome though... Hopefully it'll be better than NFS:U 2 that game got old really fast...
TrinityJayOne - February 18, 2005 02:15 AM (GMT)
Contrary to popular belief you actually CAN modify the outside of the vehicles in GT4. I've seen a video of a player choosing a rear wing from many possible choices, although whether it's limited to wings or extends to other external mods is unknown to me (the place where you buy them is called the "Aero Shop", so you never know). You can get nitrous oxide (NoS to the unlearned :P) too, but personally I hope they keep that to the drag racing. :|
dave_cool31 - February 18, 2005 05:27 AM (GMT)
WOAH SWEET!!! GT4 is going to be the BEST racing game ever.

yes, and GT4 wasnt even a game - i played it for a few hours and the started using 'b-spec' mode - i couldnt stand it nowhere as good as GT3...
anyway back on topic...
how come i can find warez of this game for Xbox but not PC - is it just cos im not looking hard enough? Im not saying that i endorse piracy - just wondering?
BrotherEstapol - May 7, 2005 07:35 AM (GMT)
People tend to prefer playing racers on consoles due to the controller being easier to use than a keyboard, so I'd say that's why you'd be finding the Xbox version easier to find.
That and the game hasn't even been relased yet. :P

i know it hasnt been released yet, thats why i was looking for warez instead of going and buying it...

Well isn't due out for quite some time, so I wouldn't expect there to be any warez avaliable at the moment.

well it is due out on the 16th of this month i think
i cant help but feel it will end up like a NFSU3 type game - with no reason to play it other than ricing up cars. still i will pick it up next weekend if i can find it somehwere...
[DZ] - June 11, 2005 11:01 AM (GMT)
auikid, FORGET EA! FORGET NFSU!! Juiced is the new king of powerslides! I haven't played it yet but it's looking nice everyday. Can't wait to try B4 and the next Ridge Racers btw.
DJ-Civic - June 11, 2005 01:59 PM (GMT)
First
review I read doesn't seem too hot on the game... :/
I dunno - from the demos I've tried, it seems like a solid racer.
NismoR34 - June 11, 2005 04:06 PM (GMT)
Hyper's review of the game wasn't exactly flash hot either. Half of the criticisms I am reading about the game though are mainly because the game arrived too late as far as the reviewers are concerned. As far as I am concerned, the game looks like a solid racer and well it has to potential to beat NFSU 2 which I was rather disappointed with. I'm definitely interested in at least giving it a go and if it is shit, well then that will be unfortunate. Heck, I can at least safely assume that it would be better than that poor Street Racing Syndicate...
[DZ] - June 11, 2005 08:18 PM (GMT)
Street Racing Syndicate had boobies though. :P So did Gumball 3000!
NismoR34 - June 13, 2005 03:23 PM (GMT)
There is only one thing that will make me purchase SRS and even then it probably isn't worth the cash. That one thing is a particular model that has always taken my fancy. So in a way you could say that I am buying the game to er, support her or something.
Gumball! I loved that...
dave_cool31 - June 14, 2005 08:02 AM (GMT)
And which model would that be Mister R34?
DJ-Civic - June 14, 2005 02:42 PM (GMT)
Our beloved
Courtney Day. If you follow the tuner culture scene in the states, you'd know who she is.

I knew you would mention her though. You could have used a better picture too. :P
But yes, that's my beloved Courtney. The sole reason as to why I will be wasting my money on a shit game. Meh.
*looks at Courtney pictures*
[DZ] - June 14, 2005 09:37 PM (GMT)
I can get you SRS and Gumball for $10. You'll need a modded PS2 though. :P
