Title: Assignments?
Description: What are your habits.

tHe LiNk - April 29, 2004 08:13 PM (GMT)
How are you at doing assignments (whether it be for school, work whatever). Do you leave them until the last minute, or spread them over time.

All my life i've been terrible at planning assignments for school, i either do a small bit of work early on which is completely insignificant compared to what has to be done, or i leave it literally until the last night.

Obviously i'm bringing this up for a reason, a good old bitch - i just completed an english assignment which took me all night. It's now 6:15 and i need to wake up in half an hour. Doh <_<

EDIT: I just realised how much of a lame topic this really is, mods - lock if you wish, i think i'm blind.... -_-

I find that I do the best work cramming a few days before it's due.

Not the best method..actually it probably why it explains i'm bald at 21 :P

Luckily for me, my assignment days are over....actually they're not...they're just now called "projects".

~DC - April 30, 2004 12:30 AM (GMT)
I've gone to many measures but still can't shake the habit of leaving everything to the last minute. Prime example is the fact that I have had several weeks to write up a proposal about stereotyping yet am finishing it now on the day it's due.

CLL - April 30, 2004 01:02 AM (GMT)
I start off doing some early, but then get sidetracked a lot, and end up finishing the nights before. I don't leave to the very last night, but more the last three or four days.

_MetalliX_ - April 30, 2004 01:30 AM (GMT)
I'm actually pretty good with assignments, having them ready to hand in at least a day before they are due. It is really much easier and does reduce alot of stress. It is also great to patronise people who are still doing there assignment 14hrs before over msn. :P

drewgcn - April 30, 2004 01:35 AM (GMT)
lol, I was finishing off mine at 3:30AM last night... if my extremely tired memory is correct weren't you in the hyper chatroom and playing gunbound at about that time?

Usually I leave mine to start 3 nights before, do a bit the next night, and then most on the last night up to midnight.

I've gotten worse with time. I used to never be finishing something after 10:30, now I'm nearly always up past midnight.

Im truckin on 3 hours of sleep!!! *insert rocker emoticon - (we really need one of those)*

user posted image!

I used to be a bit like that, unless it was something I enjoyed doing, in which case I'd finish it well before time, then spend excessive amounts of time on it and completely overkill the requirements, often in such a way that my other work suffers because of it. <_<; (we need  back too!)

EDIT: Damn emoticon shortcuts taking away my fave anime smilies!!!

EDIT: *realises that the angry emoticons he just put won't work because he disabled the other ones*

EDIT: GOD DAMMIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!

EDIT: *emoticons get re-enabled when he edits* Oh for fuck sake...

Naclj - April 30, 2004 01:51 AM (GMT)
the only assignments where im actualy good and do my work before hand is group assignments.
i hate getting assignments and not being able to start as soon as you get home. i vowed to myself to start all my assignments early this semester but the first 3 i got i couldnt even attemp becos we hadnt covered any of the stuff in them, so i put them on hold and am doing them all now heheheh.
im definately a last min person, i just have no drive to concentrate when a deadline isnt looming over me.
one thing i do do though is to read through and see how long it should take me. but i normaly underestimate

Spag - April 30, 2004 03:54 AM (GMT)
I attend uni Mon - Wed so I do any work that need's to be completed for the next week on Thursday and/or Friday. It's a good system and having two day's to assignments is great. :D

Texta - April 30, 2004 04:50 AM (GMT)
I get weekly assignments for all my subjects.

Regarding Maths and physics (due monday and tuesday respectively and given out on friday* and tuesday). I do as much as I can straight away and then finish off maths on the weekend before it's due, check it with friends at uni and then hand it in. For physics I do most of it on monday night and try to check it with people on monday morning.

For chem, assignments are online and while there is one every week, only two out of three count and you have about a month to do them. So I do them the sunday before they're due (they're also multiple choice) (they're due at 12am monday).

For law, our tute assignments are not marked (but we have to do them to be marked as attending class) so I them the night before. Big law assignments I spend about a week on.

I find that comparing answers before I hand my work in (for maths and physics) is an excellent way to check. It's certainly helped me keep my 95%+ average up for those subjects.

*we get just over a week because our tute is one hour after we get the assignment... so we get the weekend to finish off

Kaorikaze Chimi - April 30, 2004 06:10 AM (GMT)
Night before it's due wherever possible.

Ghosty - April 30, 2004 06:22 AM (GMT)
I always tell myself I'm going to do it the first chance I get.

That first chance is always the last day of the holidays :P

Well I did end up finishing it at 11a.m. this morning, after going to bed like 12 last night...

And that was for an assignment that was due today, 37damn pages...

So I guess you could say I leave most homework to the last minute now, enjoying the time I have to relax.

Theiffy - April 30, 2004 07:43 AM (GMT)
Well, at the moment i have 5 or so assignments i should be doing, that probably says a little bit about how long i take to do them. :D

My usual routine is to procrastinate, i say to myself "Thats it, when i get home i'm going to do it" then when i get there i go on the computer and post on forums/talk to friends, and reassure myself i've got plenty time to do it later.

A week or so passes and my assignments due tommorow, eek, so i stay up all of the night and do a half arsed job and still get decent marks. :P

confusedonlooker - April 30, 2004 08:02 AM (GMT)
When I finally bring myself to it I usually polish them off in one sitting. I find it hard to start but once I do I can usually finish them in the one go.

Damn...that sounds exactly like what I do

I'm doing it right now in fact :P I have one due on Wednesday, one on Friday, then a few the following week. I figure I will do the one due on wednesday tonight (yeah like that will happen <_< ) then do the one due on friday over the weekend and next week. The one due on friday is more important and a lot more difficult. Its for History, about Peter the Great, 1800 words, and worth 20 or 25% of my mark :o Problem is, all the books at the library seem to have already been taken out :(

I'm probably completely stuffed for the History one, but I know a few people doing it so hopefully I can get some of their info....

...hopefully ;)

oVerCaffeinated - April 30, 2004 09:29 AM (GMT)
Well I leave mine to the last minute even though I try not too. Gaming, internet, TV and music are constantly calling for my attention and they won't let me do my homework dammit!

Sytadel - April 30, 2004 11:19 AM (GMT)
I'm lazy in everything except Psychology. I can pass my units without putting in too much effort, and Psychology is the only unit where I really want to achieve.

The Coconut King - April 30, 2004 11:37 AM (GMT)
I chill out for most of the time & spend a minimal amount of effort on the work, then somehow manage to get a spankeriffic mark for it. It's great.

Almighty Beanchild - April 30, 2004 11:50 AM (GMT)
I generally do them at close to the last minute. Big thanks to syt with his aid on the last one :P

DJ-Civic - April 30, 2004 12:51 PM (GMT)
Man, I haven't done an assigment in years!
But from my high-school days, I remember I'd spread the work during the timeframe they were due, and if it was lacking something, I'd cram it in there in the last minute. I guess now I know why I was a "C Average" student. :P

Gnomey_g - April 30, 2004 02:18 PM (GMT)
I'm a 'leave it til the last weekend' type of guy. Recently I had a massive build up of works too do, really stressed me out, so I'm going to try and change my habits now and spread the work over a longer period of time.

Mully - April 30, 2004 06:48 PM (GMT)
I always used to leave it to the night before, or just not even bother doing it. However, now I've finished school, no more homework or assignments for me. :P

Lordage - May 1, 2004 12:53 AM (GMT)
I leave things until the very last minute.
Back in Year 12 I had one year to do my 10,000 word English Extension 2 (4Unit) English Major... I did it in the last four days, without proof reading it or any editing at all.. :P Oh and I still managed 75% :P

10,000 words?
I would've died :P

Well done on the result

Rhinokorous - May 4, 2004 09:53 AM (GMT)
I'm one of those do it at the last minute kinda girls which I really should change now that I'm in year 12... Come to think of it I have a Photography Assignment due this week... Uh Oh

I had my big essay for my "Education 1" subject due last Monday.
It was worth 40% of the course.

I didn't start it until 11pm the night before.
Required was a minimum of 3000 words.
Plus it was on a subject I knew very little about.
I didnt finish until 6:30am, giving me just enough time to get ready and drive over to Sutherland to hand it in.

However, as a result... I am now sick.

Oh well.. at least its out of the way.

Last four days

Man you're a freak. So far I've only done 1725 words for mine. And haven't even started my History Extension one yet

I'm definitely a "leave it to the last weekend" type of guy. An example: On Tuesday I have to deliever a speech on 'Art, Literature and Music during the Nazi Period' and complete a booklet with over 100 questions about Albert Speer, for Modern History. Haven't started either yet.

Beast - May 5, 2004 03:00 AM (GMT)
I am definitly a last minute person. I mainly did math and science at school though - so never had to do huge written tasks.

.alt - May 5, 2004 04:14 AM (GMT)
Put it this way, i've got an assignment that I haven't started due in tomorrow (And it's an assignment that can't really be finished in such a short amount of time :() I try not to leave them at the last minute, but I just can't help it.

[m]averick - May 5, 2004 06:56 AM (GMT)
I had about a month to do four huge asseessments for Year 11.

Being the excellent planner I am I decided to give myself the weekend before to finish it :D

Needless to say i was a very stressed person that weekend....

Hello - May 5, 2004 07:03 AM (GMT)
hello ain't the quickest of dudes so I need to pace myself. If I did my work the night before, my essays would be full-on sucky. Pacing myself does lead to work that sucks, but just not full-on.
10,000 word yr 12 assignments? It's good to be living in The Big V :)

Shadow Knight - May 5, 2004 07:14 AM (GMT)
I usually do them at the last minute. For example i had this English task where i had been given 20 options and i had to choose a list from them to make a mark out of 100, i had ALL holidays, yet all i did was relax and go out with friends. So now i find that i need to a helluva alot of work in the next two days, but i'll get through it all, considering i've done things like this before.

denno - May 5, 2004 09:09 AM (GMT)
I like to give them on tuesday.

StElLaR - May 11, 2004 11:02 AM (GMT)
hhhmmmm.....i also, leave it till the last minute person. But then again, who would have thought that COBOL programming would have been so hard?

Big Scib Man - May 11, 2004 11:42 AM (GMT)
I have two in class essays due tomorow yet I am chatting to people on MSN and here. Screwed? I think so. :P

The ghost who walks - May 13, 2004 08:19 AM (GMT)
i usually do five minutes of work ages before its due and then 2 days before it's due in start working on it again, although the last 2 projects that i've had to do i haven't bothered handing in...:P

Übermensch - May 13, 2004 09:53 AM (GMT)
I've got two assignments due:

1. Language & Image: I gottta write an in-depth analysis of two extracts and two scenes from the book and film of The Quiet American.

2. American History from Lincoln to Clinton: Gotta write an essay on why America lost the Vietnam War, using the Pentagon Papers (compilation of leaked memos, cablegrams, etc. from government officials in 1971), among other sources.

I handed in an assignment last week for Early Medieval Europe. It was an essay on deception (abstract concept) in The Murder of Charles the Good (primary source account of the murder of Count Charles around about 1100 AD).

I just got back two assignment results. I'm not too happy about them. (65% for Language & Image, and 63% for Society, Reason & Knowledge.)

rampaging_geek - May 13, 2004 10:06 AM (GMT)
I'm doing a history assignment right now which is due in tomorow. I've found it hard to get all the sourced I need to make it long enough. So I'm pretty much screwed right now. I'm not even sure why I'm still here.

Just out of interest, does anyone know a good site for World War I info? :P

Spazzallo - May 13, 2004 11:21 AM (GMT)
Always the last night. I try to do some before but I'm one of those people who gets easily destracted. One of my major problems is that my parents dont let me stay up past 11 doing homework! Lucky im only in Year 9 and assignments only take up to 2 hours. I got to break the habit though. Any tips?
